For 2023 filling I paid $65 to file Fed and State returns. For 2024 I paid $75.
This year (2025) they wanted to charge $90.
I went to FreeTaxUSA... It cost $15.99 to file both.
DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR PRICE GOUGING!!!!

EZTaxReturn is the worst! Nothing changed regarding my income, which is 95% social security, and last year I filed with DIRECT through the irs.gov website and owed NOTHING! DIRECT is no longer available so I went with ezTaxReturn and ended up owing $542 and paid eztax $37 for the privilege! Not only that, they can't process your payment to the IRS but they readily accept their fee! BEWARE !!!

Super easy to understand and use, as the name says.
It is 1000 times better than using Turbo tax!
You do have to pay for state return. Mine was $42; worth it for me. They should state that up front, before you start loading in your Federal info . That would have raised my rating to 5 stars.

Don’t fall for the “free” - Even if you qualify for a free federal return you will pay to complete a state return. They even charge you same price if you were to print and mail . I didn’t realize price until after federal was done - wanted 39.99 to do state .. then week before deadline went up to 42.99 .. there’s other sites that are truly free .. don’t make the same mistake I did- never again ..

Although the data entry was straightforward, the rest was a complete disaster. I could never get to a place of "filing" my return.
I followed all their suggestions for avoiding timing out, but nothing helped. After I had all my data entered, i got timeout logouts every 60 seconds. Logged back in, kicked out again. Over and over again. I spent more time trying to finish the filing than the time it took for data entry.

Absolute disgrace. They are supposed to provide free federal prep for simple, low-income forms, but they charge $40 anyway. They claim it is because the income was over $16K. On the IRS site, they advertise the max at $89K, not 16. Dirty games to squeeze a buck from poor people. Shame!

I notified this company that I did not want to use their services after all. They are listed as an IRS freefile vendor, but there was a minimum charge of 11.00 and efforts to upsell from there. I filed elsewhere with no issues. Then ezTax began hassling me to finish my return, although I had already canceled with them. I am still getting emails from them, but they ignore my requests for a refund. Do not use this company if you can go elsewhere.

Had them for years. Tried this time and was told there was no record of me with them. If I could I'd give them a -100

I went through the entire process of filling out my federal 2025 return with multiple 1099s and when I got to the end, the program said I didn't make enough money to qualify for free filing, and it would be $22.95 to continue my federal return (we don't have state tax).

What? After all that? It said I needed to make a minimum of $19,000, (which I did), and not over $89,000 (which I didn't) So, why didn't you tell me after entering my income, that you weren't going to file my return, instead of wasting an hour of my time giving more information that wasn't going to be used? Don't waste your time like I did.

To be completely fair, my income after deductions was less than $19,000, but my gross income was higher than that when I started and knew that $19,000 was the minimum, but it didn't say "income after standard deductions". If the $19,000 minimum is after deductions, then you should say so.

You heard that right, I'm living off of less than $25,000 per year and before you judge me and say to change jobs, find me one that hires people pushing 70 years old and I will.

It appeared that I successfully e-filed both federal and state until EZTaxReturn sent me an email saying my SSN was used with a different user login last year. I checked the status, and they did not submit the returns, nor did they give any instruction on how to proceed. I used a different partner, and had no issues. EZTaxReturn will not refund my state filing fee, even though I contacted BBB.

Total scam operation! Filed both fed and state with them and they don’t respond to problems and keep sending me emails to file again after I’ve already paid them! DO NOT USE!!!

Complete trash. Won't ever use again. They cost me money, won't file my state, and keep giving stupid AI answers without any real help.

I have used this site for a couple years as they are an IRS recommended site. This year I gathered all my documents, entered it and rifled. eZReturn like all other online software supposedly catches mistakes and makes you go back and fits them before you can file.
Assuming they had done their part, I got through the efile process and within 24 hours a mail was sent advising the returns were rejected and directed me back to exert for instructions. It said nothing other than ‘must mail returns’. No explanation of why or what needed to be fixed. Called IRS they said data missing but didn’t know exactly what.
Long story a little longer….paid to FED EX state and Fed returns (&23.80) and will now likely be waiting for Christmas for them to figure out what’s wrong.
Personally I think it’s a glitch in their software. If it appeared correct to EZreturn the something is amiss in their system. Told them I wanted the $24.99 back that I paid to file state….no go…Just needed to vent!

I have used this service for the past few years with no issues. This year, I kept getting Session Timed Out messages after every 2-3 questions I answered. I followed all of their suggestions to fix this, and none of them worked. I contacted customer support looking for assistance and no one ever answered me. I used FreeTaxUSA instead. Got it done in about 30 minutes.

Would give a zero if I could. Already did my taxes but decided to use this site to file. What a waste of my time. If I didn’t know what I was doing and just blindly let the software do its thing it would have cost me $500 off my correct return. And when emailing customer service about the issue I kept getting same AI incorrect response

Don’t use them. They never submitted my tax documents. You can’t speak to anyone. They never answer the phone and they don’t call you back. They just send you an email. They told me it’s my fault I didn’t hit a particular button to complete the process. I have screenshots I. Which they congratulate me on filing my return. So now No get to call the IRS.

I attempted to ues this company for my tax return this year for the first time and was not pleased with there nonexistent costumer assistants. No way to contact then other than email, then wait 24 plus hours for an answer. I finally had to cancel my account on the 14th of April after struggling for couple of weeks with EZ Tax Return and went back to turbo tax were I completed my taxes in less than an hour and half and a larger return.

NOT free. First, they didn't capture any Idaho state credit information, so my return was $100 less than it should have been, and then they tried to charge $40 for an "e-filing fee." Avoid this tax preparation scam.

Charged me $40 four times just to not even let me file my taxes. Best part is you can’t even write to support.

Absolutely the WORST tax service ever! I filed yesterday and keep getting contradictory emails telling me my federal return was rejected and to refile. Then I get an email telling me it was filed. Then they tell me it was rejected.

No customer service option.

I will never use them again.
