10/10 Experience! I have rented the 4x4 car from Asco Car Hire through Explore Namibia and it went very very well. The staff of Explore Namibia was amazing, always ready to help and being proactive. Recomend 100%

Wij hebben eerder een georganiseerde reis door Afrika gedaan en hadden dus bepaalde verwachtingen. Helaas waren er bij deze reis via Explore Namibia een aantal teleurstellingen. Wij deden een 28-daagse trip door Botswana en Namibië. Hieronder een aantal tips om rekening mee te houden:

1. Let op! Het autoverhuurbedrijf kopieerde onze CVC-code van de creditcard en slaat die op. Dit is zelfs verboden in Nederland en België volgens de PCI DSS-richtlijnen. Nog nooit eerder meegemaakt.

2. De bijbetaalde GPS/noodtelefoon (€442) bleek zwaar verouderd, stuurde ons drie keer verkeerd en was totaal onbetrouwbaar. Hierdoor vloek je wel als je in the middle of nowhere zit. Je verwacht natuurlijk dat je waar krijgt voor je geld. Uiteindelijk gebruikten we Google Maps met een lokale simkaart, veel betrouwbaarder en goedkoper. Gewoon bij het vliegveld eentje kopen aan het begin van de reis. Download de kaart van Namibië op Google Maps en je kunt overal heen, ook zonder bereik.

3. De route was niet logisch opgebouwd: we verbleven vaak meerdere nachten op plekken waar weinig te beleven was, terwijl we op mooie locaties slechts één nacht hadden.
Vaak zijn we daarom uitgeweken naar lodges in plaats van de vooraf geboekte (en dus reeds betaalde) kampeerplekken. Deze waren vaak leeg, zonder activiteiten of restaurant/bar. Voor hun prijs zou je wel wat meer mogen verwachten dan enkel sanitair. Je moet de factuur betalen voordat de accommodaties en route überhaupt vastgelegd zijn. Dit is erg onhandig, aangezien je dit dus niet kunt controleren op voorhand.

4. Activiteiten boek je makkelijk ter plekke, zelfs in het hoogseizoen (wij gingen juli-augustus). Dit is de helft goedkoper. Elke dag konden we spontaan boeken, zonder dat er ooit één volzet was. Ondanks dat zij op voorhand aandringen om dit via hen te boeken, hoef je je geen zorgen te maken.

5. Let op met extra kosten. Bijvoorbeeld in Chobe betaal je entree per dag, maar als je activiteiten ‘inclusief fee’ boekt, wordt dit niet aanvaard aan de ingang van het park en betaal je dus dubbele entree.

6. Daarnaast boek je best niet de transfer naar Victoria Falls. Ik zou aanraden om gewoon zelf naar daar te rijden, aangezien wij ook nog eens een cross-border fee hadden betaald aan Explore voor Zimbabwe... De taxirit kostte €130 voor twee personen om één uur te rijden. Met €130 kun je meer dan een volledige tank vullen van 140 liter (meer dan 700 km rijden). Dit is een absurd dure transfer, zeker met de extra kosten ter plaatse (visum Zimbabwe + entree park €50 p.p. + verplicht huren van een regenponcho €8 p.p.).

7. Activiteiten zoals paardrijden zouden zogezegd onmogelijk zijn, maar wij konden dit bij meerdere accommodaties wél doen. Het is een mega aanrader om tussen de giraffen en zebra’s een onvergetelijke rit te maken!

8. Wij betaalden voor een Toyota Hilux in onze overeenkomst en kregen zonder uitleg een Ford Ranger. Niet volgens de factuur.

9. De auto viel meerdere keren uit op hobbelige zandwegen (totaal geen extreme omstandigheden voor een 4x4). Volgens de monteur zaten er "gewoon wat draadjes los"? Dit veroorzaakte stress en onzekerheid, vooral toen ook de motor en de radio uitvielen, wat normaal niets met elkaar te maken heeft... Dit zou echt nooit mogen gebeuren bij een 4x4, aangezien je elke dag met zulke onverharde wegen te maken krijgt.

Voor een reis van €7000 mag je betere organisatie en betrouwbaarheid verwachten.

Explore Namibia understood our family's wishes well and proposed a very well matching itinerary for us. They went out of their way to propose thing we would not have found them ourselves (such as an amazing kayaking trip in Walvis Bay).

Reception on arrival was professional, app and paper documents provided to us made the trip easy even without network coverage. All services worked and lodges were good. They also provided very fast support on a weekend evening to solve a payment issue with one lodge.

We were exceptionally pleased to both picking Namibia as our destination as well as Explore Namibia!

I can highly recommend. Great service and really great communication. Things just worked and it went so smoothly for our trip to Namibia in July 2025. It just adds another level of enjoyment to a complex self drive holiday, that the team helped plan.

Ci siamo appoggiati a questa agenzia per affitto auto e tour, mi ha seguita Andrea, un ragazzo molto disponibile e paziente, è sempre stato sul pezzo ad ogni mia richiesta e domanda. Sono super organizzati, veramente competenti, sia in fase di prepartenza (sono arrivati dei video alla mia mail) per farci conoscere la 4x4 affittata.. al ns arrivo in Namibia la navetta ci ha portato al rent a car e da lì in briefing sia della macchina che delle strade e del percorso (ci hanno consegnato una cartina) (vi consiglio di scaricare le mappe offline x maggiore sicurezza ) il viaggio è stato incredibile, paesaggi spettacolari e animali stupendi! Explore Africa organised a trip to Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls) for us. It was perfectly organised, even though we booked at short notice. Our questions were always answered promptly.
The trip went smoothly, the lodges met our expectations and the guides were all very knowledgeable.
We took home many impressions and memories from this trip and can highly recommend Explore Africa.

Accommodations were what we expected and the communication from Andrea was as immediate as could be given a 6 hour time difference. The attention to detail was very helpful for our 4 week self driving safari in Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. We highly recommend Explore Africa!

Persoonlijk contact met een vaste reisadviseur, Jasper gehad. Ik kon hem altijd bellen,appen of mailen als ik een vraag had. Reis is een aantal keer aangepast naar mijn wensen of activiteiten later bijgeboekt. Niks is te gek. Ze denken met je mee, ook twee keer met de receptioniste gespart. Bij aankomst geweldig ontvangen in Namibie door Helena, je krijgt helemaal zin in het avontuur door haar enthousiasme. Onze vlucht was in de avond laat vertraagd naar de volgende dag waardoor er meerdere dingen in het programma gewijzigd moesten worden. Ik belde op met het noodnummer ter plaatse en ze dachten meteen mee en hebben alles kostenloos omgezet. Géweldig! Ik ben dankbaar.

We spent 30 days in Namibia on a self drive tour, combining stays in lodges with camping in our Toyota HiLux with roof top tent. The experience overall was fabulous. We did approx 5,700 kms and went as far south as the Orange River, bordering South Africa, to Swakopmund on the West Coast, to Epupa Falls on the Angolan border, then back to Windhoek. The accomodation selections were generally great, however the government run camp sites were usually run down, dirty and the showers & toilets were less than average. Olifantrus Camp Site in particular in the Etosha National Park is definitely one to stay clear of! Our suggestion would be to stay a minimum of 2 nights everywhere. We stayed only one night on a few occasions, but after a full days travelling (a 4 hr drive can easily end up being 6), by the time you set up camp the day is done & you have to pack up and get away early again the next day. If you don’t have a month to spend, you could easily forget about going South to Fish River Canyon, etc. Whilst it’s a great thing to see & the accomodation at Canyon Village was exceptional, it’s a lot of driving to get there!
A couple of tips for Explore Namibia. 1) For the colder months, an extra blanket would be great. It could stay packed under the mattress & brought out when needed 2) For anyone less than 6’ tall, you really need to supply a small fold up step to access the fridge & fold up the roof top tent. We ended up buying one for N$180 which was absolutely perfect & made the camping experience so much more pleasurable
Lastly, a comment on Explore Namibia. We found them an excellent company to deal with - great communication, excellent app for the phone detailing everything you could want to know on a daily basis. We were met by Helena at Asco Car Hire to pickup the vehicle & she gave us a thorough run down on the trip ahead. Very friendly & helpful

Renting a 4x4 vehicle for self-drive in Namibia and Botswana.
Upon arrival, full assistance and a detailed explanation of how to use the vehicle. The vehicle received was practically new. Drove about 9000 km in a month, half on untarred roads and never had any issues. They guarantee recovery in case of problems. Transfers to and from the airport were perfectly on time. I highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay in Namibia thanks to Explore Africa! They organised everything so nicely. In this way we could enjoy our vacation fully without worries! The people are all so nice and we loved the lodges they booked for us!

We are all thrilled with the trip—Namibia enchanted and surprised us from the very first to the very last day.

The accommodations were each more welcoming than the next: the most enchanting was undoubtedly Onguma in its private reserve, but also unforgettable were the views and starry skies at Sossusvlei Lodge, the stunning landscape surrounding Twyfelfontein Lodge, and the rhinos grazing at Waterberg Wilderness Lodge. Villa Vista was also absolutely lovely.

The GPS was extremely useful, especially since we didn’t have Wi-Fi or navigation on our phones.

The car service was perfect as well—especially the handover of the vehicle, which came with a thorough technical explanation.

Finally, the dedicated app was incredibly helpful, along with the printed guide and paper map.

So a big thank you to all of you—who knows, maybe we’ll have the chance to plan something together again!

Explore Namibia / Explore Africa is good and reliable agency. They organise things excellent and do what they promise. Their prices are reasonable.

Explore Namibia heeft voor ons een geweldige reis samengesteld voor 10 dagen Namibië. Eind april hebben we met z'n achten in twee auto's o.a. Sesriem, Swakopmund, Damaraland, Etosha (Okaukuejo) en Waterbergplateau bezocht. Vanaf het eerste moment was alles goed georganiseerd door Explore Namibia, met campings op ontzettend bijzonde locaties, mooie auto's, gastvriendelijke guesthouses en toffe excursies.
Zo hebben we kunnen kayakken met pelsrobben, op een quad door de duinen gecrosst, gewandeld bij neushoorns en leuke game drives gedaan. Gaaf om zoveel giraffen, zebra's, olifanten en antilopen in het wild te zien. Helaas geen leeuw of jachtluipaard gezien, waarschijnlijk doordat het in Etosha erg groen was door de hoeveelheid regen. Maar dan hebben we een extra reden om nog eens terug te gaan naar Namibië. 😉

Het contact met Explore Namibia van tevoren én de meet & greet op locatie waren erg prettig. Onze reis is meer dan geslaagd, mede dankzij Explore Namibia. Ontzettend bedankt!

A really good experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful from the very first moment. They put us at ease, explaining everything we needed to be able to undertake a week-long trip to Namibia. We rented a Toyota Hilux with an integrated tent. Inside the vehicle there was everything we needed to be able to cope with camping in the best possible way, from the fridge, dishes, sleeping bags, sheets etc.
Excellent experience, recommended.

Goede reisorganisatie, veel know how over Namibie, combi met Asco car hire is ook een voordeel. Hele reis prima uitgezicht en vastgelegd. Keurige reisinfo gepersonaliseerd, in app en op papier. Bij aankomst in Windhoek werd alles nog eens goed uitgelegd. Door overvloedige regen moesten we enkele dagen omgooien in de planning. Werd goed geregeld.
