The platform allows those who travel more sustainably to rent an electric vehicle directly from EV owners. evee makes renting an EV affordable and convenient. Renters can choose a car in their suburb and arrange to meet the Host or pay an additional fee for it to be delivered. This is great if you’re landing in a new city and want to pick up the car from the arrivals terminal. Many first-time EV renters have many questions, especially about charging and range. The Hosts can give a full induction of the car and answer any questions they may have. evee’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of EVs for a cleaner future. Allowing Hosts to rent out their vehicles evee makes EV ownership more affordable and accessible. Ultimately, by sharing vehicles, evee is encouraging increased utilisation of the cars we already have. Each trip with evee saves approximately 13 kgs of CO2 emissions compared to a petrol car. Lots of information available on the website about the car sharing. But I was still a little confused about the options for insurance.
Great being able to do research online at any time of day.
Perhaps because I live in New Zealand the verification process seemed a bit daunting. Involving photographs of passport or driving licence as well as a portrait photo. But I realise that's just what normal rental car companies do, when you are at their counter.

You noted correctly that this is what traditional car rentals do anyway. We can't expect our hosts to verify licences and hence need to strengthen online our pre-booking verification process. The good news is that you only need to verify once and the following bookings are easy 👌

Update (14 Mar 2026): This case has now been resolved. After completing our review with the host, evee issued a partial refund, which the customer confirmed was an acceptable outcome.

Thanks for your feedback and sorry for the delay. Your support case requires mediation between the host and renter, and we need information from both sides before we can make a decision. Unfortunately this can take some time.
As advised in our response to you, we’re currently waiting for the remaining information so we can complete the review. We are actively following up with the host and will update you in the existing support thread as soon as possible.

An easy way to connect with l electric cars owners
The good :
- Very easy and straightforward to connect with a host whom owns an EV
- Comprehensive solution for insurance
- Competitive pricing (I think)
Not so good :
- Overdependence on SMS for identification. WhatsApp would be more reliable (I had serious issues verifying my Indonesian phone number)
- The app is creating friction / a layer between the host and the guest for communication. I missed messages from my first host on how to return the car.
Forcing every message to display as push first, OR switch to WhatsApp would probably improve the experience.

Sorry about the Indonesian number verification issue — this appears to be related to strict local SMS regulations and we are working on resolving it.

He gave me a car with a low battery
He gave me a car with a low battery, and the worst part was that the car was dirty. There were stains, and overall it was not clean at all. A rental car should be cleaned and vacuumed before being handed over to a renter. I was disappointed, and I didn’t have much time to deal with all of that.

While we set clear standards and work closely with hosts to uphold them, we don’t have direct control over every vehicle at handover. evee is a peer-to-peer marketplace, which means vehicles are owned and prepared by individual hosts. That said, we do take this seriously and have followed this up with the host.
We didn’t receive any contact during your booking, which meant we didn’t have the chance to resolve this at the time (for example, organising cleaning, support, or a credit).
And if you’ve had any issues with evee’s support, booking process, payments, verification, or the platform more broadly, we’re always here to help — please feel free to reach out directly.

Great service, great car, easy pick up from airport, at A busy end of the year time. Could be a bit cheaper and if possible the variety and availablity of cars needs to increase.

The hiring process was simple
The hiring process was simple. The owners house was very close to our accommodation making it easy to collect. The owner was easy to deal with and the car was very clean. Great experience.
