I have an Ellington pen and the refiller mechaism broke in less than 12 months and they are really flimsy and there's no stop when twisting it to lower the plunger or when twisting to refell. I t seems to take a Waterman cartridge and works but every now and then blots. Cannot recommend them sad to say. I also have a Mont Blanc - which is much better but more expensive and Lamy which is also better than the Ellington.

I find myself using Pilot G-2 0.5/0.7s which work really well for me, no blots, no marks on your fingers. I understand that disposable pens are not eco-friendly, which si why I tried the Ellington.

I bought this pen fully ready to hate it. I have been searching for "that" pen for years now. In my job and my personal life, I do a large amount of writing. I've been using digital-only writing for the last 3 or more years because I've been unable to find a pen that I didn't hate -- be it due to the weight, the "smoothness" of the penstroke (or lack thereof), the way it felt in my hands...or even just that unnamed "thing" that made me absolutely hate a pen - every pen I touched had that "thing". In my desperation to find a pen I liked using, I went so far as to buy 2 different kinds of Mont Blanc pens, as so many people claim them as the "lamborghini" of pens...I ended up with very expensive desk ornaments.

Fast forward to my husband showing me an advert for Ellington Pens. I didn't hide my eyeroll. The cost was more than reasonable for a good pen, but way too expensive for another deskpiece, and hey, if Mont Blanc couldn't do it for me, I wasn't spending more than $5 for a pen I'm going to chuck across the room in frustration anyways.

My husband wore me down in 2 weeks or so, and I prayed that the company had a good return policy.

When I opened the box and started writing, it was amazing. I was still pessimistic, even as I loved the look and the weight of it in my hands was so perfect...that satisfying "snap" as the disposable ink cartridge secured perfectly into the well (that's one of my issues with the internal cartridges and fountain pens..."is it in right?" "did it go all the way" as I'm pushing and twisting and praying and hope for the best). But still...nope, I couldn't let myself get my hopes up. It's going to write like crap, I told myself.

It wrote so well. I couldn't complain about one single thing. But surely the ink will clog the nib in just a few days, I thought...well, I've now had it for 3 weeks. Multiple ink changes (I hate to admit I haven't even properly cleaned it yet), heavy usage every single day...the stroke hasn't changed, the ink is still beautiful, and I haven't had so much as a skip in a single stroke.

To say this was a good buy is such an understatement. This pen and ink has literally made me fall in love with traditional writing again. I'll be buying another one on pay day just so I can have one at home and at work.

Edit: Resolved incredibly quickly after this review. Missing items arrived within 2 days. Reading other reviews had made me panic and worry this was not a trustworthy business but I have no complaints. Some say the company produces cheap pens and uses clever marketing to make them seem premium. As someone who owns Jinhaos, Parkers, Sailors and a Laban, I like Ellington Pens way more than the Jinhaos and they feel much nicer. They are also weightier than basic Parkers. I like the choice of additional nibs and now own 4 pens with 3 additional nibs as I like the bent nibs. I like the way they come with converters as standard plus some cartridges and I like the push on lids rather than screw on ones. I think take them as you find them. I would wait for special offers before purchasing as they are very expensive at full price but often have offers like a free pen or even 60% off.

I received a package from Ellington Pens but of the 6 items I ordered, only 1 pack of ink cartridges was in the padded envelope. I am now having trouble raising any response from Customer Services. I have emailed and tried their website chat facility and Facebook messenger but no response. I am feeling conned.

Nice pen at a good price and no issues with ordering or shipping.

This is my second purchase of Ellington Pens. I ordered initially as a Christmas gift for my daughter in law. She Loved the set that I bought for her. She took them to work and she is now the envy of her office. I love the pens. Such great quality.

I just received my new Ellington Pen and holy smokes…

I’m genuinely blown away.

I purchased the Stealth Black Ellington Fountain Pen as my first pen, and I was so impressed by the writing experience that I quickly decided I needed to add the Silver Sonata as well. Both pens feel distinct yet complementary—each with its own charm. The nib glides effortlessly across the page, delivering a crisp, consistent line, and it offers a luxurious, yet dependable writing experience. Whether for daily journaling or signing special documents, these pens elevate every stroke. If you’re new to fountain pens or a longtime enthusiast, I can’t recommend Ellington Pens enough.

I placed an order for an Emerald Green pen, which was also discounted as it was near to St. Patrick’s Day.
The pen arrived promptly in a protective padded envelope, inside a black leather-like presentation box. Also in the box were two black and one blue ink cartridges, plus a piston ink converter. The pen was further wrapped in a protective plastic sleeve, and contained a card with a QR code.
The pen itself is a beautiful vibrant emerald green, matched with gold coloured accents to the top and bottom of the pen, with an octagonal end to the pen cap.
Unfortunately, the barrel of the pen was too small for me to grip it, so sadly I am unable to comment on the writing experience.
Very reluctantly I had to get in touch with Ellington Pens to request a return.
I was asked to provide either a video or photos of the pen in its current condition so they could then guide me through the next procedure.
After sending in a photo of the pen, I had an email asking if I wanted a total refund, or would I like to keep the pen for 50% off to save me the trouble of posting it back.
As the pen was too thin for me to handle properly, I opted for a total refund, and to return the pen.
Within minutes I received notification that a full refund (less postage) was on its way.
I then had an email informing me that as well as the refund, I could also keep the pen as a gift from Ellington Pens.
I wrote back to say I did not mind posting the pen back to them, (It was my problem that I could not grip the pen ) but they were very kind and insisted I should keep the pen and that if I could not use it, then to gift it on to someone else.
The timings of all the correspondence (initially with Krystal then with Yeen) happened within about one hour.
They were polite, attentive, professional and extremely efficient.
I had a great customer experience with the team at Ellington Pens…thank you for your help.

Having purchased some pens (one was a free gift due to amount spent) and ink from Ellington Pens I have emailed twice over an issue with the purchased pen and still not had a reply some weeks later. No response on the phone or via message through Instagram. For a company that seems very able to bombard me with marketing material it's distinctly less willing when it comes to answering problem emails. I have now given up but will certainly not buy anything else from the company or recommend them. Problems happen but it's they way they're dealt with that counts. In contrast a Diplomat pen that developed a problem a year after purchase was put right without hesitation and quickly. What a contrast!

Thank you everyone at Ellington. Have received a replacement set and delivered in super quick time. The two stars only relate to the lack of response, the pens I’ve purchased have all been good quality and a pleasure to use. I would change the rating to four if I could.
Ordered several items in the past and all been fine but my last order had items missing from the calligraphy set - including the pen! Cannot get anyone to respond to emails and the message box on the website doesn’t work. Really disappointed as the pens I already have are fine but the set is a gift and time is running out to replace.

Took a while to arrive, it was worth the wait. The first fountain pen I have been able to rely on to actually write when I put it to paper. Also, it is solid and feels good in my hands — comfortable to write or draw with.

I have long enjoyed writing with a true fountain pen. I bought two Ellington pens to replace my lost Parker & Shaffer fountain pens. One of the pens worked perfectly, the other, not so much - hence only 4 stars. CS at Ellington ended up sending a replacement nib to correct the scratchy, inconsistent nib on the original purchase. Now both pens are a joy to use.

I don’t really want to give 3 stars but I wanted to get attention to this issue for your company and others. I love the pens they are good quality and write extremely well. I would stick with fine, the extra fine is a little finicky. You tend to have to write slower otherwise the ink skips. Let’s get to the 3 stars. I purchased the dynamic duo bundle, it was offered at a 25% discount over the already lower bundle price, however at check out the journal does not ship to the U.S. and I had to click to not include the journal as part of the bundle. In doing so, that reverted the bundle back to the original price as if I was purchasing each item separately. I had the welcome code for 15% which originally brought the bundled price down to 40% off. With the journal issue I only received the 15% off original price not the bundle price. So purchasers need to be aware of that issue. Love the pens might buy some additional ones once I get over the disappointment of this first purchase.

Very good quality--cartridges work well, nice writting sysle.

More than I expected!! Feels great in my hand, smooth ink flow, never seems to dry up. Even after not using it for a few days.
