What Consultant? Where?
Having arranged an evening appointment to visit and have a consultation about a vasectomy, I travelled from Aberdeen to Edinburgh. Having sat in the waiting room for an hour, I was eventually told that the consulting surgeon was nowhere to be found. He wasnt found that evening, and by all acounts, the next day, or the next. I travelled back to Aberdeen having wasted 8 hours of my time and a tank of fuel. It was infact over a week before the hospital bothered to get in touch and try to reschedule. No apology forthcoming. I have made arrangements elsewhere thankyou. Not how you treat people paying privately for medical treatment.
Complaints System not fit for purpose
The "complaint system" did not work following my outpatient appointment in May. My written complaint was acknowledged quickly and I was promised a reply within 20 working days. Almost two months later I had heard nothing. After expressing my frustration on the phone and insisting I needed a reply I did get a call from the Head of Clinical Services and he took action..
If there is a system in place, it should work, and patients should not be aggravated and forced to take things into their own hands to have action taken.
A very disappointing experience of outpatients.
I hope improvements will be made following my meeting with Head of Clinical Services.
Lack of communication between the staff…
Lack of communication between the staff and surgeon. Booked my surgery in April for start of June, 2 weeks before my surgery I get a call to say my surgeon will not be in the country and need to reschedule. They lied to me saying they tried to call me the week before, which I had no missed calls, no voicemail, no email, no letter when they have all my information. Now I'm 12 weeks post opp and just had my 8 week check due to cancelling my appointments again and also not sorting to cancel appointment I phoned up to rearrange due to work and the time I was given.

I attended the clinic on 29/7/22 for an MRI and requested that my results be emailed to my consultant. Despite emailing them for confirmation I received no reply. Having called the clinic I eventually got through to the imaging dept whereby I was told that my case had fallen into a hole and despite apologising I don't feel that it was an all together very positive experience despite paying £375.
Disappointing
Charges full fee despite not being able to help.
Disappointed.
Excellent consultation
I attended for a consultation yesterday 20 April, and both my wife and self were more than impressed with the overall approach from staff and professionals.
I am confident that all will be undertaken with great care and attention on ' the day'!
Wonderful Ophthalmic care from Dr Andrew Tatham
I have been an ophthalmic patient at The Edinburgh Clinic for the past 4 years and in terms of medical care I have had nothing but positive experience. The staff in ophthalmics whom I have come to know over time are knowledgeable and easy to communicate with.
My ophthalmic surgeon Dr Andrew Tatham is extremely talented and is someone in whom I have absolute confidence.
Any criticism I have would relate to the administration of the clinic. I have experienced phones not being answered and reception staff being somewhat vague.
I note that the Clinic is now part of the Nuffield Health Family which I hope may lead to better administration.
Patient data errors
Surgery was fine, if somewhat brusque, but I’m really not impressed to receive an email threatening debt collection…when the EC have the wrong address on their files. When I pointed out their error, no apology was forthcoming. Will go elsewhere for next steps in surgery. This isn’t how to treat patients
Just felt that I was churned in and out…
Just felt that I was churned in and out faster than I would have been at the GP's. Name spelt wrong on follow up email. No difference in care from NHS, maybe people who have in paid for them through work etc can feel more appreciative
Fantastic care for Cataract Surgery
A pleasant and highly reassuring experience for opthalmic consultation and cataract surgery. I was lucky to have cover on my work health insurance which allowed the option of going privately for cataract surgery. Without the Edinburgh Clinic my wait for NHS treatment, given the current waiting lists and impact of COVID restrictions, would have been years not months and stopped me from working. The clinical and consultant care was excellent from the start and everyone put my mind at ease about the procedures and recovery. During surgery, all of the clinical team were amazing, everyone helped to create a relaxed and calm atmosphere, and I am amazed by the results, life changing. The post-surgery optician was lovely and very thorough in checking everything and providing advice on the (tiny) prescription required. Thank you to the consultant, Dr Tint, and his amazing team.
Superb clinic
Superb. So glad I chose to come here. They are so professional, caring and very slick. I cannot fault the nurses, surgeon, consultants at all. I had great care and attention. Can highly recommend them.
Caring and helpful
Can't recommend enough
I felt like the clinic went above and beyond, especially with dealing with my GP surgery, who were less than efficient! Communication before and after my scan was first class, which is very important to me. My appointment itself went smoothly and I was made to feel comfortable throughout. I left feeling like I'd been treated like an individual, which is something that's often lacking from health care these days. Many thanks to all the staff.
I have recently visited the Edinburgh Clinic
I have recently visited the Dermatologist at the Edinburgh Clinic and was very impressed with all of the staff from the moment I walked into reception. They were polite and very helpful which immediately put me at my ease. The relaxed modern surroundings was also a very pleasant environment to wait. After a short time I was met by my Dr who was so friendly as well as totally professional. I would definitely recommend The Edinburgh Clinic.
Excellent service all round.
PRP REVIEW
Just an ongoing update regarding my hip
Osteoarthritis from my PRP injection last August (2020).
Apart from the subtle flare-ups after hip and leg training, I still have no pain. There have been no nights of interrupted sleep and no need for any NSAIDS.
I still can’t believe the success of this treatment which I firmly acknowledge goes a long way to substantiate this treatment -alongside correct movement and exercise modalities.
Warm Welcome with good virus precautions
I attended the clinic along with my wife and daughter for Visa Medicals on 7th May 2021. My daughter has learning difficulties and all the staff were so caring and helpful. The patience Nurse Brian took with our daughter was amazing and made the whole process feel so easy.
Huge disappointment and lack of care
Was sent here by the NHS for a routine operation, you think being a private hospital you would get that extra care and attention - not this case.
Pre op was average but there was NO Post Op care, the surgeon did not make any attempt to visit any of the patients after the operations - one patient asked to speak to the surgeon only to be told he had gone home for the day (this was 10 mins after I was back on the ward).
One of my stitches burst open and the pain was excruciating, I asked for help and pain relief and got a cup of tea and sandwich shoved into my face. Eventually I was given two co-dydramol which really never touched the pain. One of the nurses said she had never seen anyone in such pain before (I have broken my leg and knee cap so I can pain management but this was the worst pain I have ever experienced. They said they were going to get someone to help but never got any help - in the meantime I was told to eat and drink the refreshments and I would be allowed to go home!!! When you are in this much pain the last thing you want to do is eat or drink.
The young man in the next bed has had similar issues to myself where we both ended up in A&E at the ERI that same night due to swelling, bleeding and pain!! We also both ended up in the Western General Hospital (SAU Surgical Assessment Unit). The young lad ended up being admitted and having to basically get the operation done all over again.
I ended back up in the Western again a week later due to swelling and tremendous pain. The Western General staff were amazing and helpful answering all my questions and actually caring giving lots of aftercare.
I would strongly advise NOT to go to The Edinburgh Clinic due to their terrible care (complete lack of care). I am still in a lot of pain due to Mr Al Jaaafari rush job and no aftercare. He had left the hospital within 10 mins after my op), he lacks professionalism, sympathy and care for any of his patients.
I expected a lot better care from a private hospital but to be honest I got much better care from the Dr's and nurses from the Western than I did from this private hospital.
It seems The Edinburgh Clinic are more interested in getting as many ops done as possible and not to follow up on their patients - to date I am still waiting on them contacting me as was promised.
I have never experienced so much pain and such poor care from any hospital/clinic in my life.
Severely disgusted with their lack of care

Mother's Recommendation
My mother was treated as day patient earlier in the week. She was extremely nervous at having to be given a general anaesthetic and undergoing an operation to remove varicose veins. However, after dropping her off at 7.15am and collecting her around 2pm, it was clear she needn't have worried.
In her own words 'From the moment I stepped through the door, all the staff could not have been more helpful or kinder. Despite being quite fearful, I was put at ease from the outset. The theatre staff were so understanding and talked to me in such a wonderful manner I felt more relaxed than I could ever have imagined. The anaesthetist was first class in his calm and reassuring manner with relaxed conversation.
I would without doubt highly recommend this clinic and never thought for a moment I would be willing to go back to a hospital operating table. Well done to every member of staff for making my visit so comfortable'.
Well there you have it, if my 70+ year old mother says its good, it must be!

Cataract operations
I have just had two completely discomfort-free cataract operations. Everything about this clinic is exemplary! The staff are very professional but also charming and kind. The ophthalmological knowledge of all the specialized nurses is astounding, and my surgeon, Mr Ross, was a pleasure to meet. The building environment was delightful. All the staff were great fun. If only I had more eyes so I could go back for more! Kit
