Tbh I havnt had any major issue since joining from Ulster bank but agree with most on here that to have a system that's so bloody dated in the age of modern tech is unbelievable. Surely Ebs can work on a decent, fit for purpose and user friendly APP.
I only really joined as they don't have any unavoidable charges otherwise probably AIB is the way to go.
I'd advise anyone with an account to keep a secondary one with Revolut.
Money manager account has no fees which…
Money manager account has no fees which is a bonus but how the bank operates is so incredibly old school its baffling. None of the online account apps/logins work first time on any phone, tablet or laptop.
Everything is made pointlessly difficult all for "added security" , which in a nutshell is very accurate as I can barely access the account or whatever I need.
Attempting to print or save statements is a waste of time . I have tried on multiple different laptops , with different printers to no avail. Everytime I receive the below
"there has been an error with your transaction." I have had a money manager account for 3 years, if the account wasn't free I would have left a long time ago.
They charge 5€ for bank statement…
They charge 5€ for bank statement request but and they don't have facility to print out yourself off their little app where u can check your balance. REVOLUT all the way lads. I closed my bank account today. EBS is a just useless little bank
ebs online is like something from the bad old days
ebs online is like something from the early 80's. Having used online banks this is a shock to the system, works sporadically and after digging out all of the numerous letters they have sent (who still does that ?) i eventually get in to discover it just crashes when i go to make a transfer. I give up, back to Revolute for me
2 Payments to go :)
I got my Mortgage in the EBS in Dundalk 20 years ago actually only have 2 payments left. When we went through financial difficulties during the recession after the Celtic TIger they were amazing, never considered changing. Only downside is I would have thought they would have written to me already about what happens when my mortgage completes and confirmed my last payment dates.
I was with Ulsterbank and needed to…
I was with Ulsterbank and needed to move my current account. The process of setting up an account with EBS was like it was in the 1980's. Two visits to the branch and signing of multiple docs. Funny thing is i actually like this aspect even though it was inconvenient. Setting up online banking and activating the debit card also is a long process compared to the online only banks but no issues. Now set up, i find i'm able to get the banking things i need done. I see from other peoples reviews when things go wrong its a pain but I found that when things went wrong with Ulster bank it was a pain to rectify as you were always sent to the helpdesk in NI and they never did what they said they would, i always had to go to my branch to get resolution. So all banks are the same if things go wrong, in my experience, but so far I'm happy with EBS.
Purchase verification problems
85% of the time I have verification problems with ebs online. The service needs to revamped. It's just not fit for purpose. So much time is wasted re-entering details to keep trying. The help line is friendly but useless.
Just the worst
Just the worst online banking of all providers at the moment.
Renewing EBS card and EBS app a nightmare
1. I lost my bank card and was going on holiday in 10 days time. Even when I asked for fast track card replacement it took 2 weeks so I didn't have it for my holidays.
2. I got a new mobile phone and installed the EBS app. To activate it with phone calls is not possible on a weekend. Only 9.30 - 4.30 weekdays. When I rang Monday morning over 2 calls I was on hold for over 20 minutes costing me about 10 euro on prepay. The music on hold kept going real quite as if the dreary music recording is worn out. I finally got through to an operator and went through a complicated process to get the app activated. Given that this app was forced on EBS customers the activation and use of it should be streamline and easy to use. Its not. I have been a customer with EBS for over 20 years but I am transferring my account to AIB where I know from friends their service is much superior.
We are reluctant (forced) Landlords…
We are reluctant (forced) Landlords because we were desperate to move out from where we were but only able to get a 2nd mortgage by keeping and renting out the existing property due to negative equity. Now, finally in positive equity and having cost us €18,000 in taxes in only
3 years - our tenants (lovely people) finally got a placed of their own as 1st-time buyers. They are moving on and we can't afford to keep paying these taxes, I asked for a 2-3 month break until it was sold. We would be making a massive capital gains loss, but we don't care. Now that it's in positive equity, we just want it away from around our necks. They said they were "not in a position to help" and warned me our credit rating would be affected if we defaulted on any 1 payment. Thanks, EBS, thanks AIB who is your parent company, thanks for being exactly the banking system we bailed out, an absolute shower of Bankers!
We got our mortgage from the EBS…
We got our mortgage from the EBS Drogheda and we found the process fine. We were dealing with Nora and she was amazing!! She made the whole process as quick and as easy for us. She was so attentive and took the time to go through everything in fine detail. She made regular contact when needed and followed up on things in our behalf.
THE WORST EVER
A 20 MINUTE PHONE CALL, EVENTUALLY SPEAKING WITH AN IRISH PERSON AND I THINK THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED.
I WILL NOT KNOW UNTIL TOMORROW AFTERNOON.
I STILL SAY A SHODDY BANK.
Exceptional service from Rob Priestman and the EBS team
Rob Priestman and the EBS team were excellent in providing us a mortgage for our new home. Couldn’t have been more responsive and helpful, always available for questions (& I had a lot), very clear through the process, helped us be very prepared for when we completed, and just a pleasure to deal with. We felt very well looked after, a really personal service. If there were 6 stars I’d give them 6.
Actually ok
Reading through all these negative experiences and that's not my experience of EBS. I was pre-warned by their staff that their banking website is by no means comparable to others and that's pretty true. Yep, banking website is beyond basic and not very usable on phone and one needs to install both authenticator and card manager to get everything in place one would expect to work (card manager for online payments).
However, where banking website is lacking, both staff in Phibsborough branch and on phone are very friendly and willing to help. Something to be said about that!
We cannot use the EBS Authenticator App…
We cannot use the EBS Authenticator App even after all the letters they have sent, knee deep by now.
Given instructions to use this code and that code, customer ID, which they never sent by post.
It appears their cunning plan worked doing a great job putting off new customers from joining the EBS.
Off to An Post ta.....
Very disappointing as I trusted them…
Very disappointing as I trusted them with my financial affairs, and they let me down big time. if we could give them 0 stars we would. Awful customer service. As someone else said, it is very puzzling how they are still in business, as they are so extremely unprofessional. The only thing they are ok at is hooking unsuspecting new customers, then the mistakes and unprofessionalism begins. There is a reason they are the smallest Irish financial institution, propped up by bailouts. Do not touch with a bargepole.
Worst bank ever still in the stone age…
Worst bank ever still in the stone age .. online banking is a joke and the most basic ever .. as for bank holiday payments its a laugh .All other banks lodge the money days early not EBS .. so slow for everything definitely changing banks . No support from customer care on phone took 40 mins to get someone to try help with online banking .. very outdated. Ok for a kids account not every day banking .
Mortgage Process
Myself and my partner dealt with Bernard and Nora in the Drogheda branch for our mortgage. Bernard completed initial assessments and was efficient and friendly. Nora dealt with the remainder of our mortgage process and was always willing to take our calls and help us in whatever way possible. It made this process so much easier!
Thank you Nora, Bernard and the team in EBS Drogheda!
Super helpful and efficient staff
Super helpful and efficient staff, I had some account enquiries and David was very professional and helpful, a pleasure to deal with, can't recommend EBS enough! Thank you David;-)
