My order was dealt with very promptly and the item arrived sooner than I expected. Excellent service.

Slightly non standard repertoire in stock, held it for me for several days.

I ordered the J. Wood Signature 8-Course Renaissance Lute from the Early Music Shop on June 6, 2026, and received it on June 15, 2026. Unfortunately, the instrument does not meet my expectations. There is a video on the website featuring the renowned lutenist Jacob Heringman in which this lute sounds excellent (I assume the recording technique makes this possible). In reality, however, that is not the case. I have been playing the lute for over 30 years, and in my opinion, this instrument does not even match the quality of a student-grade lute. The Early Music Shop offers a 14-day return policy following delivery. I emailed the Early Music Shop on June 17, 2026, to request a return, but I have received no response. Now I have paid £1,650 for a poor-quality instrument that brings me no joy. It seems that offering a return and actually processing it are two different things. Very frustrating!

I bought a clavichord sight unseen that is excellent, so I could actually experience the manner of playing familiar to JS Bach. The Early Music Shop is the place that helps you get the right instrument for the music you want to play.

I bought a Fipple recorder as part of my campaign to keep arthritic fingers moving. It’s great. Makes a good sound but best of all the holes at the foot of the instrument are perfectly placed for my slightly awkward little finger. Thoroughly recommend this instrument if you are having problems with hands.

I love the available selection of products and the fair pricing. I appreciate the thoroughness in the product details on the product listings. My shipment arrived past the 7 day mark, but I understand that's largely out the shop's control. A star has been deducted for the mops that I ordered not arriving the pictured color: The bass one came in the pictured color, but all the others came in unmatching colors.

The instrument is fabulous, so that was the most important issue for me.
In addition, buying on line was easy and secure.
I was a wee bit frustrated by a lack of information about my order, but the instrument was well worth the wait.

They had the accessories I wanted for my tenor recorder and at a good price. My only gripe was that I felt delivery was expensive for such small items but I ordered anyway as they were the only place I found to have both the items I wanted in stock. I received regular updates regarding the processing & delivery of my order. It arrived quickly & was exactly what I needed.

Ordered what I needed and fitted the strings to the harp and cleaned it

Although I unfortunately had to cancel my order this time, the customer service team handled my emails professionally and promptly. My refund was processed properly, which gave me peace of mind. Overall, I felt I could trust this company.

Delivery was slow, overall, since it had to be obtained, slowly, from the publisher.
But there was a wicked price increase for the poor next person who wanted the same book!

I purchase all my Recorders from the Early Music Shop. They always do a perfect job in all respects. Cheers
