I enrolled in DMI’s Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing with genuine excitement and high expectations. I hold a Master’s degree in Marketing and have lectured in marketing at university level, so I didn’t take this decision lightly. I wanted to upskill specifically in digital marketing to stay current and competitive in today’s fast-moving industry.

The course promises to “move beyond theory, and master in-demand digital marketing skills with a practical learning approach.” Unfortunately, that promise was not met. The content was overwhelmingly theoretical, delivered through endless slides and pre-recorded lectures. The so-called “practical exercises” at the end of each unit were passive and superficial, clicking through a few pre-recorded steps is not hands-on learning. In the real world, the industry expects digital marketers to know how to run and manage multiple high-value campaigns confidently, and this course simply doesn’t prepare someone to work confidently in a real-world digital role.

For $2,352, I expected to come away with real, applied skills, building campaigns, writing ad copy, setting targeting, interpreting mock data, creating content calendars. To put this in perspective, I recently purchased a short-format course from an independent provider for just $27. Despite the low cost, it included step-by-step tasks, real tools, and guided practice, and I gained far more usable knowledge and confidence from that program than from the DMI diploma. That comparison alone says a lot.

To make matters worse, the “study notes” were simply transcribed lectures, and the quizzes felt designed to test memorization rather than understanding. Many questions were confusingly worded or ambiguous, and often felt more like a trap than a learning tool.

The final exam is entirely theoretical multiple-choice questions, designed to test memorization rather than real-world application. DMI even cautions learners that they may only pass on the second attempt, which is hardly reassuring. Failing an exam like that, not because I don’t understand the material, but because I can’t repeat it word-for-word (and because more than one option could technically be correct, but only the phrasing from the notes is marked right), would be both misleading and demoralizing. I’m far from unqualified; what I needed was an opportunity to apply the knowledge, and that simply wasn’t part of the experience.

For a program marketed as “practical” and “career-ready,” this felt like a box-ticking certificate rather than a true skills-building experience. If you’re serious about learning to do digital marketing, look elsewhere, this course does not deliver the hands-on, confidence-building training it advertises.

I enrolled in the 2023 DMI Expert Course, which began in March of that year. While I had some Graphic Design experience, this was my first time delving into the broader world of Marketing. The curriculum was comprehensive, and the resources provided for completing the two required assignments were abundant. I found the video lessons, exercises, and tutors clear and easy to understand. The assignment guidelines and sample submissions were particularly helpful, making the process much easier to navigate.

Due to personal circumstances, I had to take a break from the course and requested extensions on two separate occasions. The DMI staff were extremely understanding and offered every possible allowance and support. I’d especially like to thank one team member, Darragh Boyle, who went out of his way to accommodate my situation and provide help whenever it was needed.

I found the course challenging, particularly as this was my first experience with a remote, self-directed program. If you are considering taking it, know that you will need to put in consistent effort to succeed. It’s a big commitment, but one I would definitely recommend if you are serious about becoming a Digital Marketer.

The post-graduate Digital Marketing course was just the course I had been looking for and was everything and more than I was expecting. When I last studied marketing there was no social media, strategic planning for digital campaigns wasn't in my degree - we'd only just got email! Although I've learnt about these through my career I felt very far behind my younger colleagues. This course has helped me regain my confidence. It have given me not just a grounding in digital marketing, I can now look at it strategically from a top down organisational level and understand how we get there, why and what the considerations need to be along the way.
The course was more intense than I was expecting, especially the assignments but I have learnt so much from it and would highly recommend it. The structure was perfect, building on your knowledge through each module, the level of expertise and knowledge from the presenters on the modules was very impressive and their real life experiences really helped. The flexibility in learning was essential for me to be able to complete this course, being able to study at any point in time so long as I had wifi was a huge benefit.
Finally I would not have completed this course without the support, guidance, exceptional knowledge and help from Michelle. She was always available when I needed her, including a couple of late nights and weekends. Her knowledge of all things digital marketing was really impressive and was evident through the way she helped to explain things and guide me through some of the challenging coursework requirements. I always felt much calmer after speaking with her and came away with a clear sense of direction.
This is a great course, I would highly recommend it, but be prepared to give up a lot of time to complete it. Being a fulltime working mum in a busy job with two children doesn't leave much time - this will take up the rest of it but its worth it!

I chose the Postgraduate Diploma because I wanted to build on my existing skills and push my career forward. I can confidently say that I’ve achieved this, and more. I’ve been able to apply nearly everything I’ve learned directly to my day-to-day work and can already see the results.

The course content is clear, well-structured, and delivered in an engaging way by real industry experts. The assignments are demanding, but put everything you have learned to the test. I especially appreciated how they pushed me out of my current sector comfort zone and made me explore strategies across different industries.
