Defective shoes, no proper remedy - would give 0 stars if I could
I ordered four pairs of Converse shoes (Order #0035531114, 18 August 2025) directly from Converse UK because South Africa does not stock half sizes (UK 7.5). To get the right size, I had to pay extra for international forwarding and import taxes through Aramex Global Shopper. The shoes finally arrived on 12 September 2025.
Two pairs were clearly defective straight out of the box - with open seams, uneven/jagged stitching, rough unfinished edges and visible glue marks. These are not small cosmetic flaws but obvious quality failures that should never have passed inspection. I sent photographs to Converse UK to prove this.
The response? A “solution” of either:
A 15% goodwill refund, which doesn’t come close to covering the costs or the defective state of the goods, or
A full refund only if I returned the shoes from within the UK - ignoring the fact that I had to ship them to South Africa in the first place because Converse SA doesn’t sell half sizes.
So not only did I pay import duties and courier fees on defective shoes, but Converse has refused to cover the cost of sending them back from South Africa. Their policy basically leaves international customers who rely on half sizes with no protection if the product is faulty.
For a brand as big as Converse (part of Nike), this is extremely disappointing. I expected better quality control and a fair remedy. Instead, I’m left out of pocket with substandard shoes.
If I could give zero stars, I would.
