Climeworks uses a technology called 'direct air capture' to capture carbon dioxide directly from the air. When the removed air is combined with underground storage, it allows the permanent removal of excess and legacy CO₂ emissions, which can no longer contribute to climate change.

It is not clear why 1 unit of money no matter which country removes 1kg carbon dioxide.
If climeworks can‘t tell me exactly which methods they use, I might withdraw my subscription.

The cost per kg removed is fixed as the CO₂ is removed from the air from one location: Iceland, where our Orca plant is located (and our future plant Mammoth).
“Why not capture CO₂ where its concentration is much higher?” you might ask, in short: it does not matter where we capture CO2. The CO2 level in the atmosphere is homogenous across the world (0.04%), since the diffusion and mixing of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere happens very fast.

Help to commercialize it.
I hope that over time the price per kg of CO2 sequestration will reduce. At the moment sequestration of CO2 from burnt fuel is similar to the price of the fuel. It's very important for early adopters to jump in and help commercialise this and similar projects.

Ich wollte eigentlich unsere CO2-Ferienemissionen teilweise mit Climeworks kompensieren. Das war aber nicht möglich via Website. Deswegen habe ich gespendet. Hoffe ihr setzt das Geld gut und zielgerichtet ein!

A great step to save the planet.
I read about Climeworks while researching for a project on carbon capture initiatives. What I loved about Climeworks is how easy it is for a common person to buy some captured carbon from here. I bought it as a gift for my 2nd wedding anniversary, making the purchase more meaningful for me and my husband.
