Please don't make the mistake we made!
Sadly, I cannot recommend Bluebird based on our experience with them.
Finding care for a parent with dementia is one of the hardest decisions a family has to make. We placed our trust in Bluebird to provide a safe, reliable and caring live-in service for our mum, but over time that trust was completely eroded.
The biggest issue was the lack of communication. Emails were regularly ignored, we were not kept informed when carers changed, and we were left trying to work out who was actually caring for Mum. Despite the significant cost of the service, we were never provided with regular invoices or a clear explanation of charges. The monthly cost increased from around £6,000 to approximately £13,000, without proper consultation or transparency.
We were also extremely uncomfortable with how our personal information was handled. We were repeatedly told that GDPR meant Bluebird could not provide us with basic contact details for carers, yet information about Mum’s care was shared with people who did not have Lasting Power of Attorney or any legal authority to be involved in decisions about her care. This inconsistency caused a great deal of concern and damaged our confidence in the company.
The most upsetting thing was feeling that Mum’s needs were not always being prioritised. Someone living with dementia needs patience, supervision and genuine engagement, and unfortunately we reached a point where we no longer felt confident that Bluebird was providing the level of care and attention that she deserved.
We gave Bluebird opportunities to address our concerns, but sadly things did not improve. We have now moved Mum to another provider, and we only wish we had made the decision sooner.
Choosing care for a vulnerable family member is incredibly personal, and families need to feel they can trust the people looking after their loved ones. Unfortunately, our experience with Bluebird left us feeling let down.

We are deeply saddened to learn that your experience of our service has left you feeling this way and that your confidence in Bluebird Care was lost. This feedback has been particularly upsetting for our team, as providing compassionate, reliable care and building trusted relationships with the people we support and their families is extremely important to us.
We take the concerns you have raised extremely seriously. Following your email, I personally carried out a thorough review of the matters you described, including our communication records, invoicing records and the arrangements in place throughout your mum’s care.
Although your recollection and our records differ in a number of important respects, our review found evidence of ongoing communication with your family, responses to correspondence, invitations to participate in care reviews and adherence to the communication arrangements agreed with those involved in your mum’s care.
We recognise that paying for care represents a significant financial commitment for families, and we understand why any increase in cost may cause concern. Our annual price adjustment was 3.9%, and all customers were given two months’ notice of this change. This was introduced at a time when the cost of delivering our service had increased by approximately 15%.
We have carefully reviewed the figures referred to in your feedback against our invoicing records. The level of increase described does not correspond with the charges shown in those records. However, to protect your mum’s privacy and confidentiality, it would not be appropriate for us to discuss her detailed financial arrangements or care arrangements in a public forum.
We recognise, however, that despite our efforts, the relationship between your family and Bluebird Care ultimately broke down. We are genuinely sorry that we were unable to rebuild your trust. A positive and trusting relationship between a family and a care provider is incredibly important and it's deeply disappointing when a family feels that this has been lost.
In your email to us, you explained that your decision was final and that you did not wish to discuss the matter further. We have respected your wishes and completed our review based on the information available to us.
We are truly sorry that your relationship with Bluebird Care ended in this way. We sincerely wish your mum and your family all the very best for the future. Your mum will be greatly missed by our team, who became very fond of her during the time we supported her.

Wonderful carers
The carers from Bluebird that looked after my father were excellent and he responded well building relationships with them.
It was a very turbulent time for us with several long hospital stays and discharge dates changing.
This made it difficult to plan and arrange care with any certainty, but each time Bluebird reacted well and found good care when we needed it.
I learnt to trust them to find care, although the communication of the detail to us was sometimes very last minute.
