Altius was the perfect MCAT course!

I loved my experience with Altius. I had taken the MCAT once and was unsatisfied with my performance. I signed up for a course with Altius, and the tutors were so helpful and encouraging. I was able to improve my score to exactly where I wanted it. The tutors' focus on strategy was unparalleled and cannot be found in any other MCAT prep course.

I struggled trying to self-study for the MCAT for months before enrolling in the Altius Elite program. Altius helped provide a structured format and gave me the accountability I needed to be successful. I knew that my mentors were always looking out for my success and genuinely cared about me. Without Altius, I would have never been able finish my studies on my own, let alone score in the top percentiles.

I had no idea what I was doing when I signed up to take the MCAT. I took my first practice test and scored a 485. I Knew I needed help and Altius delivered. Through their program and personalized private tutoring, I was able to improve my score and boast a 90th percentile MCAT score! I could not have done this without Altius!

This course is a waste of A LOT of money. The textbook they provide has so many errors in it including spelling and multiple choice answer banks, the tutors would have to correct the book and students would be left confused. Not to mention when you meet for classes every student is at a different step in their Altius journey so you don’t get collaborative support and you’re left thinking you know nothing when in reality, the students in your class have been taking the course for 3 months already. My personal tutor, Skylar, was the absolute worst, he had no regard for his students and multiple students in my group felt the same way. Skylar would miss meetings, be late to sessions, etc. all without any text notifying or cancelling/rescheduling. Altius has no plan to help students with little motivation or students who need a little extra push. I would NOT recommend Altius to anyone.

Altius has good intentions with sometimes subpar delivery. The website was quite buggy for me, especially during my test week (not the best time to have practice tests crash on you). The actual text was sometimes far too wordy and other times offered little to no visual explanations for complex topics. I also didn’t feel like the Altius tests were accurate predictors of actual AAMC practice test scores. (I often scored several points lower on AAMC tests). Structure is really important to me and Altius felt like self study with some extra guidance at times. The bright spot being my tutor. Yay don’t know if this was due in part to the training or my tutor herself, but I’d imagine it’s the former. If I could do this again, I would likely use another service. Might work well for others, but not me unfortunately.

Tutors are just people who got a good score. Does not attribute to being a good teacher. Most of the work can be done on your own. They have good FL to practice from but it is not worth the money on something that you can do yourself.

Overall good, they provided lots of practice and the tutors were really helpful. My score jumped from a 506 to a 516! The classes were helpful and have some good practice and I learned from the other students. In terms of studying the sciences, the Chem, bio, etc.. they are very thorough and helped me know how to best study. If you’re looking for help with CARS it’s not that great. The tutors will give some decent advice as to what helped them but the Altius method is not very practical or helpful. I just had to do a thousand practice articles/questions till I got better, but I wouldn’t really attribute it to Altius. I jumped from a 126 to 128 in cars.

Terrible terrible test prep company. Just because someone gets a 515 on the MCAT does not qualify them to tutor other people. My tutor was awful and condescending. Instead of helping me he was just unhelpful and unmotivating since he did not get into medical school. If you are going to market a $4,000 product, it better actually be worth it with tutors who know how to get into med school.
