Bryan,
I’m Doug Ward, owner of Alaska Pet Movers. I’m sorry for the frustration and unnecessary trips you experienced while trying to relocate your cats.
The primary issue affecting the shipment was California’s summer heat. Airlines enforce strict temperature limits for live animals, and the original destination could not safely accept your cats under the forecast conditions. We fully support those restrictions, but we should have identified the issue sooner and contacted you before you drove from Wasilla to Anchorage.
For the second attempt, airports closer to your girlfriend’s location were still restricted because of the heat. San Francisco was the closest airport available that could accommodate your cats within the airline’s temperature and timing restrictions. However, the additional driving involved should have been clearly explained and confirmed with you before you made another trip.
While the weather and airline restrictions were outside our control, our communication was not, and we take responsibility for that.
I also want to clarify that after reviewing the situation, we refunded 100% of the money you paid Alaska Pet Movers, including the $495 administrative fee referenced in your review. I have personally reached out by email and phone to apologize and discuss the situation, but unfortunately we have not been able to connect.
We regret that we were unable to complete your cats’ relocation and sincerely apologize for the time, fuel, and frustration this caused. We have taken your feedback seriously and are improving how we communicate weather restrictions and alternative airport options.
