General Care & billing practices
I had a skin lesion burnt off. The PA barely acknowledged me, giving minimal eye contact. After treatment, he said come back in 3 weeks. On the 2nd visit...still no eye contact or acknowledgement. The lesion had reduced to 1 mm in diameter and he cryo burned it again- this time to about 14mm in diameter. There were no instructions on how to care for the treated area and the resulting very large blister. It'll be ok as I'm monitoring closely. I had to go online to download care instructions from competing dermatologists. The care seemed substandard tbh.
They charged this as surgery. PA didn't wash his hands, didn't prep the area, and didn't bandage the area on both visits. At the very minimum, a surgery should be clean. At the end he said to the room "come back as needed" and left. I had to ask for a bandaid from the 'nurse'.
The admin then proceeded to attempt to collect the amt that they should bill the insurance. I asked to be billed after the insurance remitted what they would pay. They agreed. IMO, it seems they're bullying people to pay up front. I imagine older individuals would be comply even tho they say they accept insurance. Can you imagine the nightmare if they overbilled you? How long would it take for them to send back money? How much time would you have to spend to get them to agree they owe money and to write a check? How long it would take for them to generate said check? They're banking on that, pun intended. Many give up.
Last, Advanced Dermatology bills the patient the 3% that they are billed by the credit card companies. This 3% is a surcharge by the credit card company for that business' privilege of having a CC billing system. They don't tell the patient that they are going to collect this beforehand. They could include this info up front, or in their reminder emails (but it might cost them patients perhaps?). They also don't tell the patient that they only take exact change if he/she wants to avoid this unwarranted charge. Make sure to take quarters, pennies, nickels, dimes, dollar bills, 5s, 10s and 20s with you so you dont have to pay the 3% that is their responsibilty over your deductible amount. You pay this before you can be seen.
They seem to be a well-oiled machine when it comes to collecting money but when it comes to care.. maybe not so much. I saw a doctor 20 years ago at this office but the last few times that my husband and I went, we could not get a doctor. I think we are done.
Inquiry About Consultation
All I Did Was Ask How Much A Consultation Would Be, The Woman On The Phone Was Soooo Condescending That I Just Hung Up.
I won’t go back.
I have been three times and they have been unable to properly address an issue I am having. Very very expensive that you have to keep paying for because they can’t properly address the issue. Going to a new dermatologist. Oh and prior to that they misdiagnosed a brown recluse spider bite causing sepsis that caused me to land in the ER two days after the misdiagnoses. Follow up has been horrible and takes too long.
Horrible bedside manners and no follow up
I was given a skin biopsy on 1 Feb 2024 and was told it should take 7-10 business days for the pathology. I asked the PA if I should worry about these next 7-10 business days, and she said "yes". I called on business day 8 and they said, "you'll have it at the end of the week" then I called today, business day 12 and she said she would call the lab. I called in the morning and never heard back. It is now 16 days after my appointment and I have no idea if I have cancer.
Used Syringe
The ladies at the front desk were super sweet but I cant get past how dismissive the doctors and nurses were. I would say something then be contradicted for an experience I had. Since the techs or nurses were not actually listening, the doctor would come in and say that the heard I said this when I didnt. THE BIGGEST ISSUE was that there was an uncapped USED syringe on the floor
I paid my consultation fee for an appt…
I paid my consultation fee for an appt and then the person I had an appt with went into labor on the morning of my appointment. They offered another doctor who said he wasn’t comfortable giving injections and I should wait for the girl to come back from leave. It’s been 6 months and the girl resigned and I can’t get my fee back nor could I get my injections in time for my daughters wedding. Extremely disappointed in this facility.
Port Orange office
Waiting room so narrow that people have to pass right next to you. I caught a cold and am just glad it wasn’t COVID.
The alleged skin check covered barely 60% of my skin. Like nobody ever got a skin disease on the other 40%. Prescribed for redness on my stomach without even looking at it. 3% surcharge for using a credit card is not the industry standard.
Careless at best.
Lack of transparency
I've wasted too much time with my complaint directly with the office, and later with Better Business Bureau filling a formal complaint, so I will not be very detailed. The lack of response from managment concerning a billing issue I had was below poor. I was provided a service where the cost was not transpoarten or even informed during or after time of service. I do not recommend this company.
Total waste of time
Total waste of time. My regular Dr. Found and removed a skin spot so recommended getting a skin scan. The "Dr" barely looked at my skin. I literally stood in a paper gown, turned around and he said see you next year. Nope! Go to North Idaho Dermatology. Not yuppy, very friendly, he a actually looked at all areas of my skin also asked and answered questions.
Extremely Disappointed!
I was extremely disappointed with our visit at Advanced Dermatology. My 19 year old had some alopecia and acne, hence the reason we took her to the dermatologist.
The doctor saw her and only looked at her hair and told her she needed to come back regarding the acne cause she only had time to see her regarding the hair loss. Here are my reasons I strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND AD
1. The dermatologist never thought the 2 things could be related. It could be one condition having 2 symptoms. This is poor medicine.
2. My daughter was not told what was wrong with her hair. But she was given medicine.
3. Of course she was not told anything about her acne. She’s 19. She does not have money to keep going to the dermatologist. She does not have a car so correlating a doctors visit with my schedule to drop her off is no easy task.
I thought this company did not practice good medicine and they were not thoughtful, and asking my daughter to come back was only about money making, not patient centered.
I will never go back and I will never recommend. so disappointed, especially because we needed and wanted help for my 19 year old who has self esteem issues because her hair and face needed some TLC.
Advanced dermatology lies
The website says you only need one treatment and after spending thousands so far I’ve had no changes to my skin. Feeling very ripped off .. don’t go and don’t waste your money
I’m having same issues as everyone out…
I’m having same issues as everyone out 275 dollars later. The lady at front desk insisted I don’t have copay in which I know I did. She informed me that I was going to have to pay this much at every visit. I called my insurance was told that I should of not been charged that much I should of only paid. The $50 copay and that I was over charged I tried to call billing department and was told nothing they could do. If you value your money do not go here there are other dermatologist that will accept you’re copay.
I would give 0 rating
I would give 0 rating. I booked an initial consultation and on the day of my appt, I walked in and was told they have to verify my insurance despite I gave my insurance carrier info over the phone when I booked my appt weeks ago. Subsequently, I was told I have to pay my deductible in additional to my copay. The patient before me also walked out when was told he needs to pay the deductible. I also walked out and when I got home, I called my insurance carrier to confirmed. I was told I only had to pay a copay with an office visit. Deductible does not apply to office visits. I feel this place is a rip off. It’s a small office on Springfield Blvd in Bayside. I am a nurse and I know the policies. I didn’t want to argue with the front desk personnel because I know no matter what I am not returning to this place.
If I could give them 0 stars I would
If I could give them 0 stars I would! I’ve been going to Staten Island Hylan blvd for over 3 years. The receptionists were never bright and constantly making mistakes but they have taken it to a whole new level now that you call one central line. My daughter waited a month and a half for an appt only to have them cancel it bc they never put in her medication. They told me they would contact me when they received it. They never bothered to order it again. I followed up with the pharmacy and finally have it to be delivered. They were supposed to schedule her as soon as they were to receive it. They wouldn’t schedule her when they canceled the last appt. Now they want her to wait 3 months for an appt! The meds are supposed to be administered every three months! These people are horrendous!
Love my provider, but not so much billing department
Love my provider, Justin Fodo, PA-C, but I have to say the billing department is terrible. I am constantly having to spend my time to go back in my records and send them copies of checks that they have cashed, on my account. It can’t be that difficult to correctly credit a payment made to my account. Trying to actually reach a live person to talk about this is quite difficult, and time consuming. If this happens once, it is a fluke, but this is a continual problem with this company. I think training needs to be improved. This last incident where I was getting text messages that said I was going to be sent to a credit collection company for unpaid bill was the last straw. When I talked to the representative and told her I had a copy of the canceled check, she immediately says “Cancelled?”…” you cancelled the check?” .
Ummm, no sweetheart, a canceled check in the banking industry is a term for a check that has been cashed. I was also told that the threatening texts I received nonstop threatening to take me to a credit collection agency are automatically sent and they have no control over that. Really people you have to do better. This is driving patients away. Oh, and something else. I sent by email exactly one week ago, a copy of the cashed checks. The representative told me “oh, that email account is so full. We haven’t had time to review it yet.” Really? You don’t have time to review your emails, but you have time to send me threatening texts, got it.
A money grab more than a care facility
I've been coming to Advanced Dermatology for many years. Last year I used another provider for insurance reasons, but this year I returned. First, it took a very long time to book my appointment because I somehow had 3 charts. I spent over an hour on the phone (actually on and off, as my first and second call were dropped with no call back), simply to book. When I did finally book, my "Annual preventative skin check" they asked me if there was anything wrong. I said that there was not and that I schedule a preventative check every year. After the appointment I received a bill. I was puzzled because this appointment has always been free. When I called my insurance provider they informed me that the preventative care code was not used. It took a week for me to reach Billing at Advanced Derm. Their system returned my call with a recording telling me to call and the cycle continued until a human finally answered. When I asked them to resend the bill with the preventative code, they informed me that they no longer do preventative care. I called to speak to the office manager and when I asked why they would book an appointment that they do not offer, she informed me that I should have done my due diligence. So, I'm doing that now. DO NOT USE THIS PROVIDER and save yourself an administrative mess with unauthorized charges.
Advanced Dermatology is very poorly…
Advanced Dermatology is very poorly managed! Numerous people are scheduled with the same doctor at the exact same appointment time.I arrived to a waiting room full of patients all waiting for Dr. Patel. I asked how many people had an appointment scheduled for the same time as my appointment and 4 people had the same appointment time. I have never been at this office that I did not have to wait an unreasonable time. When I have seen Dr Patel she rushes through the examination.
Trust the reviews, save yourself the frustration
The Doctors could be the best in the world, but if contacting billing or any human is impossible, none of it matters. - I've been on hold multiple times for 1hr just to see if anyone would ever pick up, nope. You can enter your phone number for someone to call you back. Of the four times I took that option, someone called me back once, multiple days later. Of course I missed the call, so the circle starts all over again. It's ashame, my Dr. was great, but I will never go here again. They habitually miss bill and their billing doesn't update when insurance makes the proper adjustments, so calls to their none existing billing department doesn't help resolve the issue, but they are sure to send you a past due notice with a threat of collections, but they have NO IDEA the HOURS I have spent trying to contact them for THEIR MISTAKES!
scam in Cape Coral, Fla
Looks like we have a problem that has to be addressed immediately. I came in your office on 4-19 and had a biopsy on a pre- cancer melanoma on my back. Paid a bill on $150.00 on same day. Received a phone call to come back in today ,which I did. Turns out today Thomas Pino Pa had a different spot frozen . Go to check out to pay my $40.00 co-payment and was told the payment was not $40.00 but another 150.00. Complained that nothing was taken off today, and had another spot frozen, not the original spot.
Thomas Pino Pa froze another spot of possible melanoma and not the one that was originally done a couple of weeks ago. That biopsy was not touched. When I got home I had my wife show me pictures of the two spots before and after. She took another picture today showing the wrong spot was frozen.. If the charge is not going to be taken off, than I will start a chargeback and scream to the high hills !
Thank You, Ronnie Giles
