Buyer (and consigner) beware.
Buyer (and consigner) beware.
If you are a buyer and want to purchase something at a discounted price offered on the website, be aware they will charge you sales tax on the original price that could be as much as 60% more than the sale price. From what I have read, this is not legal. It is only legal if the discount comes from the manufacturer – clearly a resale consignment company isn’t manufacturing a thing. Read about it for yourself on Taxjar (sorry, this review is not allow links).
This serves as a great deterrent to buying – therefore punishing the consigner as well.
As a consigner, I strongly suggest watching their pricing tactics. I have sent things that are in a box never worn and in one case, they rated the condition as just “good”, which typically means it’s been well worn. The other categories above it are excellent, which means no signs of wear, and pristine which means it comes with original packaging and tags. in my case, I sent them never worn, inbox, Red Valentino suede and sequin boots with pristine souls and they only rated it as good and priced it under $150. I have challenged it and if they do not correct the listing, I will have them send the boots back to me. I’m another case I sent a Louis Vuitton bracelet they rated as very good just like two other others I had previously sent. However, in the most recent case, they priced it significantly less than the other two. I have challenged it and they have since raised the price by 30%. I have seen cases where there are two identical items listed at the same time and there is a huge pricing disparity between the two – as much as $1000 in some cases that I have seen. Their pricing practices are extremely flawed.
The consignment person that reaches out to me looking for items has told me in the past that they accept certain brands that they in fact do not. So I have sent things that then get rejected and returned to me.
Before you use the site, proceed with caution and know what you’re getting into.
UPDATE: still no resolution on my under-priced item, nor any explanation about the excessive taxing… who gets that money?? Definitely not the consignor. Plus, for the first time tonight, I just saw that two items sold git only got 17-20% for the consignor!?!?!! It’s definitely not what they promise. Don’t turn a blind eye - challenge them on EVERYTHING that doesn’t make sense, and seek other options. Mark my words (and their super weak response above doesn’t help)… people need to initiate a class action lawsuit against this company for their misdeeds. This is not ethical!
