Excellent Economic & Friendly Service
This review relates to both a free safety check carried out by Protyre Westbury on 4 Nov '23 & an MOT carried out by them on 10 Nov.
As I routinely do, I did some preliminary checks myself on my car as it was coming up to MOT, checking for correct function & state of repair of all major items subject to MOT inspection. Fortuitously, it is neither a long time, nor many miles, since my car had a major service. However, I was not happy that, when I road-tested emergency braking, the front offside wheel locked, then juddered as the anti-lock triggered, before the nearside front. The car did not pull significantly offline.
Initially, I wondered whether the brake disk had suffered some corrosion on the inside face, as the car had been idle for a few weeks recently. Worryingly, if that was the cause, I would not be able to get that very-little-worn brake disk skimmed, due to its original-design cross-drilling for cooling; however, on checking it, I could find no serious corrosion. Being unable to determine the cause, I took up Protyre's offer of a free safety check, intending to get any fault repaired before MOT.
Protyre's staff were very friendly & helpful. Notwithstanding the mechanic who checked my car finding it behaved exactly as I had told him, he checked everything thoroughly & could find no component which was out of tolerance; indeed, he remarked that he found the car to be very taught & responsive.
In the event, my car sailed through its MOT without any problem. I had been called by Protyre on 10 Nov morning & asked if I could possibly bring my car in 1/2 an hour early, which I did. It was checked almost immediately after my arrival (unlike the previous year, when I had had to wait over 2 hours because they were running late on MOTs).
Thank you, Protyre, for your brilliant performance this year! And your outstandingly low MOT price!
