Taking advantage of new home owners

So me and my partner rate their service bad because we've had nothing but money issues with them. We were told that we'd only have to pay £50 which we thought was absolutely ideal. However, we've now come to the point where they're "inviting us" to pay £200 a month! Telling us that we're in debt... ridiculous right?! Only us two and we both work full time. My partner has tried calling them up, she spoke to Louie (Who she thought was very nice) but we feel like they're taking advantage as they were avoiding our questions as to why it has gone up so much! We'll be changing and would recommend the same for anybody else with the same troubles (Which 15% of their customers have had the same issue, probably young adults too!)

If your Direct Debit has seen an increase the only reason for this would simply be an increase to your usage. To a similar effect, if your usage decreases we will be able to justify a decrease to your Direct Debit amount. As long as we have an up-to-date reading we are able to run an up-to-date Statement with Account Balance and are also able to perform a Direct Debit Recalculation for you to ensure that this is at an optimal level to avoid shortfall. The information related to the changes comes from the meter readings provided. The more meter readings provided the greater the accuracy of an statement, balance or Direct Debit recalculation. Similarly, if no readings have been provided for usage then the statements, balance and Direct Debits will be influenced largely by estimated readings based on the history of usage at the property. This naturally we lead to a potentially less accurate position of the account.
