Impressive

First time I've had a delivery by this company. Impressive service.

Followed my instructions and my parcel arrived at just after 9am which is pretty good here in North Wales. Good communications too and IT that actually works. Wish more people used them.

Initial poor service saved by Stacey who was excellent

Original review- All things considered, my decision to buy a Nextbase camera has not been one of my better ones.

I decided to buy a bundle including a 322GW from their 'renewed' range. I prefer to do this because apart from saving money it is more environmentally friendly. Most companies who offer this service normally provide a product that is as every bit as good as brand new. Not Nextbase it seems.

It didn't start well. Despite claiming a next day delivery service they didn't despatch the item for several days. When it did finally arrive and I fitted it, there were obvious faults and I now wonder whether the camera is actually a faulty one that has been returned by another customer and then sent straight back out. I realise it's a 'renewed' item but I expected it to be checked thoroughly and any faults rectified. This clearly hasn't happened.

The thing that annoys me most however, is that I sent a service request to Nextbase 10 days ago and despite being given a ticket promptly, I'm still waiting for a reply which I think says a lot about the levels of disorganisation at this company.

Update: Well having still not heard anything today I decided to phone them and spoke to Stacey. She was excellent and despite never coming across the issue before she found the answer for me and it was a simple fix. On this basis I would recommend phoning if you don’t get a reply to your ticket promptly rather than waiting as I did.

Nightmare to log in, let alone place an order!

I absolutely hate trying to order anything from this company.

When I try to login I always have problems and end up having to reset my password etc. I’m 100% certain it’s correct but it always happens.

The stuff they stock is fine but their IT is a complete nightmare. I try to avoid using them unless I absolutely have to because I know I’ll rip my hair out!

Come on Wolseley, if Screwfix can operate a half decent website, why can’t you?

Gap in the market still not filled

I shop at B&M several times a week and have to say they’re pretty good at store level.

This review therefore is aimed at their senior managers who seem to lack imagination. Wilko, who were one of their main competitors folded last year and you’d think B&M would have seen this as a golden opportunity to fill the gap in the market for things like DIY products. It seems not, they’re still selling the same old stuff they did before. Yes they do sell a few DIY products, but compared to Wilko their range is pretty pathetic.

Wakey wakey B&M there are customers out there and a huge gap in the market for you to fill. Please get on with it.

Brilliant idea

I think these lockers are brilliant. No queuing at the post office, you can park almost next to them and you get receipts and full tracking.

I’m retired but used to be a manager for Royal Mail Group. I suggested this very idea when I worked there 25 years ago. Everyone laughed at me back then. Bet they’re not laughing now.

Excellent Service Throughout

I had a bad experience with this company five years ago but despite this I thought I'd give them another try.

This time my order arrived quickly and without any issues. Refreshingly this time the communication I received regarding the order process was top notch too.

Fire protection at a sensible price

I've just replaced all of our smoke and heat alarms with units made by Hispec.

We previously ran a B&B in our home and had a mains radio link system made by another UK alarm company it was good but once all of the units had reached their 10 year lifespan the replacement cost was absolutely eye watering!

We no longer needed mains alarms and settled on Hispec interconnected 10 year lithium battery alarms from their Pro range. They were simple to pair with one another, everything worked first time. They also seem well designed with the end user in mind and smaller and more compact than our previous alarms. The pricing was rather more sensible too.

So far I am delighted with my purchase.

Ripping my hair out trying to pay them!

I've been trying to buy a new motor policy for my wife's car this morning. The cover looks great and the price is right, but boy is it hard to give this company your money!

Problem is I've got a MyAviva account for another (non motor) policy and my wife and I normally share the same email address. Their system can't seem to cope with this. I've spent the best part of an hour trying to get around it and even changed the email address on my own account thinking it would then allow us to set up a new account for my wife but the system is having none of it. On the one occasion I actually reached the payment screen they rejected the card.

Think I need a lie down.

Update: Finally managed to make payment via another device. However, the policy didn’t show up in my account and a message indicated we wouldn’t be able to manage it online as it was in a different name. Clearly that was no use.

I spent another half hour getting through to someone in their offshore call centre and cancelled it. I’m now awaiting my refund but reckon I’ve had a lucky escape.

What a day!

Competitively Priced Paint

I’m going to buck the trend here and give this company a good review.

I live by the sea and use Pliolite Masonary paint based on its durability in conditions where there’s a lot of salt in the atmosphere. On the sea facing side of my house I always use Johnstone’s Stormshield Pliolite but at the rear where it doesn’t get the full force of the elements I use the uk paint equivalent which is considerably cheaper. Pliolite is pricey stuff so 10/10 to uk paint for making a competitively priced alternative to the mainstream brands. It’s absolutely fine and gives a good durable finish which is superior to water based masonry paints. It’s available in 20 litre drums, it’s cheap and arrives quickly.

If I was to criticise uk paint it would be for their communication - responding to emails doesn’t appear to be their strong point and their website doesn’t fill me with confidence either.

Reliable Company

It’s the first time I’ve used this company and was impressed. Not only was their price excellent but the product, a Phillips Security Light, arrived quickly. Furthermore you get proper VAT receipts and timely communication via email. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

First Order Experience

My first order and all went well… a fan for my central heating boiler which arrived at lunchtime by DHL the next day.

The part came via one of their partners. So my only issue is that I didn’t automatically get tracking details and had to contact City Plumbing for this. Their customer service was pretty good however and provided the information quickly.

It’s worth mentioning that they were the cheapest I could find but only because of my 15% first order discount. Had it not been for this Screwfix would have come out cheaper. City Plumbing might like to think about this.

Big discounts for Octopus Energy customers

I've just installed Tado and so far I'm pleased with the system.

Any Octopus Energy customers out there should note that you can get 40% off all of the Tado range. Yes that's right 40%! This isn't very well publicised and I found out by accident. Octopus will give you a discount code which can be used twice only. You just need to google 'Tado Octopus Discount' and in the search results you'll find the dedicated Octopus Energy web page. You'll see that there's a special email address - send them a message, quote your Octopus energy account number and they'll email you the code in a few days. I saved over £200.

Sorry I would have included the email address in this review but it's not allowed by Trustpilot to include email or web addresses.

I will update this review in a few months time when I've been using the system longer, but so far so good.

Good, but with one reservation

I’ve been a member of Y Live for a few years now, as has my wife. Generally the surveys are interesting and enjoyable to complete. This varies over time depending on their client base but on the whole I have no complaints with the survey quality.

One gripe I do have is that when you start to get close to your £50 payout the surveys mysteriously dry up. As an example I’m currently on £47 and haven’t received a survey for over two weeks now. Prior to that they were landing every couple of days. Reading some of the other reviews I’m not the only one to notice this. I also notice Y Live vigorously deny this is the case - I’m not so sure.

We do not hold back survey invites once you get close to the payment threshold. Please note that on an average we pay out in excess of 3000 payees per month and in 2023 we paid out more than £2 million in rewards for completing surveys. Surveys are sent to members on a random basis and are sent to the email address you have registered with us. There is no set frequency for the invites to be sent to your email id.

Quality Insurance Company that has stood the test of time

I insure my home with Direct Line and always find their cover comprehensive and simple to understand. They seem to have fewer convenient get out clauses than their competitors and you can get hold of them on the phone with relative ease. They’re nice people.

My only niggle is their clunky old IT system which doesn’t seem to have changed in years and is now well overdue for an overhaul. It says a lot when sending renewals etc out by post is still their default setting. It’s a minor thing I suppose, but it would be nice if their online experience was a little more modern.

Criminal Organisation

Like others I got caught by these criminals. The website looks fine at first sight and offers excellent prices. As soon as my order went through I knew something was wrong as the transaction was in dollars and Chinese characters appeared on screen.

I called my credit card company who told me they couldn’t do anything as the transaction was still pending and told me to contact them if I wasn’t happy with the goods when they arrived. Some chance of that! They didn’t offer to cancel the card initially. I hung up, thought about it, then called back and absolutely insisted they cancelled my card and replaced it which they then did. So glad I did that now, reading other reviews here.

If you haven’t cancelled your card yet I would strongly advise you do it now. Without doubt, its details will be used again soon. You’ll lose even more money.

I’ve learned a lesson today. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Update:

Soon after posting this review I received an email to say that my package had been despatched…from China! I wasn’t really expecting two hi-gear camping chairs to come all the way from China but I waited nevertheless. It duly arrived and contained a pair of fake sunglasses declared on the customs label as worth $5.

I now felt I had sufficient grounds to claim my money back from my credit card company as I had been defrauded or so I thought. My credit card company, however, informed me that as the seller had now actually fulfilled an order albeit sending the wrong goods it was no longer fraud but a disputed transaction. I would need to contact the seller and if nothing was sorted in 14 days I could come back to them. I pointed out that I was not at all comfortable engaging in correspondence with a very clever scammer, but to no avail. That’s the rules apparently! So I’ve decided to lose the money and put it down to experience.

It’s all very clever. By sending me some cheap tat the scammer knew full well I couldn’t accuse them of fraud or criminal behaviour. Just incompetence and that’s not a crime. Just say I had contacted them, at best they’d have spun things out so I eventually gave up, or at worst they’d have used the opportunity to steal even more of my private information.

I think I’m almost as annoyed with my credit card company for not being more supportive to victims of this kind of scam. Henceforth I will only buy off trusted platforms like eBay or Amazon, yes there are scammers there too, but at least there’s a decent dispute process if things go wrong and I’d get proper help.

Yet another lesson learned!

Excellent products but need a better carrier

My first order from this company and I’m pretty happy overall. I bought 5 litres of anti damp paint. Seems very good quality. It’s based on Pliolite resin and I’m familiar with this stuff having used Pliolite Masonry Paint on my house. I’m hoping this will be equally good as a moisture barrier. Time will tell.

In terms of service it would have been five stars if their carrier had managed to deliver overnight as advertised. Instead my paint arrived a day late. The delivery driver was however very professional. Reading other reviews the only criticism of Polar seems to be around delivery performance and transit times so perhaps they need to review their choice of carrier as the current one doesn’t have a particularly good reputation and it’s clearly reflecting on them.

First choice for DIY

I think a review of Screwfix from me is long overdue.

Despite not having a store close by I still use them as their service, price and quality is superb and often worth travelling for. Their staff are friendly and helpful and eager to please.

My only gripe is the lack of a store near Porthmadog in North Wales were I live, the closest is Bangor. Hopefully they will open one nearer to us soon.

Update: Thanks for the response but clearly it’s an off the shelf reply, otherwise you’d have told me your were indeed about to open a branch close to me. It opened in Caernarfon this week. Great stuff, but would have been nice to know sooner.

Good service at the right price

My first order with this company and it went pretty well overall. I ordered an Orchard Eden Bidet and WC.

I made the mistake of using my landline number rather than my mobile when placing the order which meant I didn't get the usual alerts about delivery times - lesson learnt. I used 'live chat' to find out and they provided me with an expected time which was spot on. Live chat was very good and you get a record of your conversation which I like. In some ways better than a phone call.

The two delivery guys Ray and Aurel were excellent and explained that I had 14 days to check the order and to do this carefully. The items were well packed and in good condition.

Checking is not as straightforward as it might be as the item numbers on the packaging don't correspond with the ones on the web page so you have to do this by appearance alone. Initially I was sceptical that I had the correct WC as it described simply as a 'close coupled WC HC-3000A' on the delivery note with no mention whatsoever of Orchard Eden. It looked exactly like the Orchard Eden one I had ordered on the website however and also measured correctly so I accepted it. Nevertheless would have been nice to have a little more reassurance. If you're using a plumber I would certainly be checking everything myself first rather than leaving it to them.

The WC came with the flush and fill valves pre installed and more surprisingly, correctly set! On the downside there was no floor fixing kit. The Bidet on the other hand came with a floor fixing kit. Bit odd that, not sure why, perhaps it was missing from the WC box?

Overall I was pleased with the experience although they need to standardise their item numbers across the website with delivery notes and packaging so customers can check orders more confidently. I can imagine this causing arguments if there's a discrepancy,

Overall, I would order from them again, the service was very good on balance and their products are competitively priced.
