Cost $1200 Extra, and They Broke Things
DO NOT use this company. I wish I went with Honolulu Movers.
Our bill was nearly 3x ($1,200 extra) higher than the quote, and they broke a ton of stuff. The leadership is terrible and the workers all seem like new hires.
When I first reached out to YouMoveMe, the estimator asked me how many boxes, I told him “~30, but maybe more.” He specifically said “the price is the same up to about 80 boxes.”
He asked me the dimensions, and quality of our elevator, and I gave them to him.
I also told him “please note, the unloading house is on a steep hill, and the house is up a flight of stairs.” He said “that’s no problem at all, our guys got it covered.”
The quote came back at $737.32, and they expected it to take 2 guys, 3 hours. The process was supposed to go from 1pm-4pm.
But on moving day, the crew didn’t finish loading until about 4:15pm. The reason they gave was “slow and small elevators.” The elevator in our building is slow, but not so much it triples the loading time.
When the truck arrived at the unloading location, they drove into the wrong driveway and damaged my neighbor’s driveway. (Photo attached). If I had not run up to them and screamed to stop, they would have damaged it further. They then refused to drive up our driveway “because the truck couldn’t make it.”
So they parked at the bottom, and we waited 20 minutes for another employee to arrive with a pickup truck, which they used to shuttle the load up the driveway, and unload at the house.
Another ~30 mins later, the owner showed up with a third pickup. Then all 4 crew members shuttled using the owner’s truck.
While moving the furniture, they struck and broke our porch light (photo attached).
The crew members couldn’t figure out how to put the furniture they disassembled back together, and needed my help. For example, it took 3 men 30 minutes to put my 3-piece bedframe back together.
At 7:45pm, fearing an outrageous charge, I told them they could leave. At that time most of our boxes were still in the living room.
After they left, we discovered a ton of damage to our furniture. About ⅓ of the items they were responsible for were damaged while moving. It’s clear they were dragged, dropped, or banged up (photos attached). They left a strap and a nail at the base of our driveway (photo attached).
The owner charged me for every minute of every single mover (including himself). I told him I was disappointed the final charge was nearly 3 times the estimate. The owner said charges were justified because the “elevator was slow, there were “more than 30 boxes and two extra nightstands, and that particular truck couldn’t go up the driveway.”
I responded that all of that had been disclosed to the estimator and should’ve been factored into our quote. The estimator had our address, so did the owner. Either could’ve done a quick Google Maps search to evaluate the driveway and use an appropriate truck.
I thought since the company had done such a poor job estimating and planning, the owner would be apologetic and offer a concession. This guy thought we owed him an apology. Not a single dollar off.
I would never recommend this company.
