Try to get them on the phone.. There's a challenge for you... Account validation.. Everyone else accepts a lloyds download but not WID. Because lloyds downloads carry the phrase ' document requested by ( your name) apparently this means the account might no be yours.. Despite my mortgage company ( 3 high street lenders, barclays, elite wine and whisky, riverside whisky all accept it and yet WID don't, then the emails stop... And they are unreachable on the number provided and because I can't validate my account.. I can't withdraw my money now.. Nice one...!

Regarding account validation, to comply with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and to safeguard our clients' investments, we require specific documentation to validate accounts. The reason we could not accept the document that you originally uploaded is because this type of document does not show all the bank account holders (were there to be more than one). Now that you have provided us with the document we needed, we have been able to validate your account.
Upon account validation, clients are then able to withdraw their funds to their linked bank account. If a client does not validate their account, we will return their funds to them if requested.

The best platform for investing in whisky. I've been investing with them for a while now. Easy to use and the customer service is excellent.

As with all commodity value it's a matter of timing
Whisky wholesale prices have without doubt precipitated since Q1 2024, there has been no heat in the market since then yet the storage (or custody fees) remain the same, it's the nature of the market.
There are some 'green-shoot' signs out there and the Trade Bulk buys (TBB) are up a little.
I plan for the market to firm-up during Q3 & Q4 2026 with an upturn in the market in 2027, once the heat is back in the market it will be the time to sell with buy bargains drying up!
Well, that's how I see it and I own >10,000 litres.

Do not invest through this platform
Do not invest through this platform - highly misleading and you are highly likely to lose a lot of money.
‘Valuations’ that are provided by whiskey direct in no way reflect even the midpoint of the buy or sell spread on their site - the ‘valuation’ is sourced from somewhere completely different and is often 30-60% higher than the mid point of the bid offer spread - never mind the being anywhere near the buy offers on the site.
Liquidity: there is essentially very little liquidity so it near impossible to buy or sell and the spreads are massive.
By way of example I invested circa 11k over the course of several years - ‘valuation’ from whiskey direct circa £16k. If I attempted to sell it all over the last 4-5 months it would net approx £5k so a £6k loss and a 10k over valuation!
Do not be fooled by this company and invest your money elsewhere, its a complete and total scam.

It is important to distinguish the difference between our valuations of the whisky on the platform and immediate trading prices. We post valuations of the stock you own based on a blend of data from our own trading platform, along with prevalent sale prices in the wider whisky industry. However, in the current market with an excess of sellers, many prices being offered fall well below our valuations, and some clients are concerned that the values shown on their account do not match what they can immediately sell for with one click.
The first reason we do not use such “mark-to-market” valuations is a matter of volume. Traditional stock exchanges which have high volumes of trading on every security they offer can mark the valuation of a security as being whatever price it was last sold at. However, in a market like ours, with over 300 whiskies, each of which will experience less than one trade per day, such a system will lead to erratic jumps in reported value.
The other reason is that our whisky valuations also serve as a guide to pricing for industry buyers as well as clients. When a buyer decides to submit a bid for client-owned whisky, they will typically use our valuations as a marker to determine their bid pricing. If we lowered our valuations to reflect only the trading going on in the platform, then the value of Bulk Trade Bids being placed would also drop commensurately, and clients who do not wish to sell at the low prices currently available in the market would be robbed of opportunities to realise the full value of their whisky. In essence, our decision reflects a long-term view of the whisky industry, rather than the day-to-day view adopted in the stock markets.
Recent activity in Bulk Trade has been encouraging, and reflects the fact that the industry is willing to pay well above our valuations when they bid. We have already had two Bulk Trade Bids in 2026, offering a price of 5% and 6% above our valuations. You can see these here - www.whiskyinvestdirect.com/about-whisky/bulk-trade-bids. We’ve observed a consistent trend showing that bids submitted above our valuations are typically successful, while those below are often unsuccessful. This gives us confidence that our valuations are a fair reflection of the wider market.
It is true that, like any marketplace, liquidity depends on supply and demand, and in 2025/2026 there are more sellers than buyers; however we are seeing more and more trading on the platform and opportunities to sell as time goes on.

Solid platform for long-term whisky investment
My experience with WhiskyInvestDirect has been positive. It is a serious platform that allows you to invest directly in cask whisky with real ownership in your own name, which is not common in this type of investment. The information provided about each distillery, distillation year, and cask type is transparent, which helps investors make decisions based on facts rather than marketing.
The purchasing process is clear, and the storage and custody system is well structured. I also appreciate that the platform does not present this as a “get rich quick” scheme, but for what it truly is: a long-term alternative investment.
From a more technical standpoint, WhiskyInvestDirect stands out because investors acquire direct ownership of Litres of Pure Alcohol (LPA) held in bonded warehouses under professional custody, rather than investing through an opaque fund or a buy-back promise. This structure reduces counterparty risk and makes the investment closer to holding a physical commodity than a complex financial product.
The platform functions as an internal secondary market where prices are determined by supply and demand between investors. Because of this, there can be bid-ask spreads and periods of lower liquidity, especially for certain single malts or specific age ranges. This is not an operational flaw but a normal characteristic of a specialized market where the underlying asset is still maturing.
It is also important that costs are clearly broken down (storage, insurance, transaction fees), allowing investors to estimate the time horizon needed for whisky appreciation to outweigh holding costs. In other words, this is an asset class that requires patience, diversification across distilleries and vintages, and a multi-year perspective rather than a short-term approach.

Poor liquidity is bad business
Unfortunately after more than 2 years and profits between 20%-70% in some kind of whiskey I wanted to sell and cash out the profits but there are 2 crucial disadvantages that are cheating the costumer. First the valuation of your investment is totally overpriced, this is a well known psychological trick in order to keep your money in and your motivation. Second, it doesn't matter if your profits are better than Warren Buffet, it will be very difficult that someone buy your whiskey at the prices of your profit, that means the liquidity inside the platform is terrible bad, of you won 50% and wanted to sell at 5 pounds, if there are offers for your type of whiskey about 2 pounds you don't have choice, or you sell at 2 pounds or place a sell order unti it reaches your desired price which could take a very long time. If I would know the difficulties to sell my profits in the platform I will never place my money there, instead in stocks, bonds or gold, what a disaster! Profits estimated of 3500 pounds and when selling finished almost with the same starting amount, avoid if you can.

As communicated in our recent client updates (www.whiskyinvestdirect.com/info/client-update-jun25), our valuations are industry-led bulk purchase and trading data, from the wider wholesale whisky industry . They are not artificially inflated; rather, they reflect the prices at which comparable stock is being valued by industry participants. Our decision reflects a long-term view of the whisky industry, rather than the day-to-day view adopted in the stock markets. That said, if a client wishes to sell below valuation in order to achieve a faster sale, that choice is always available to them. We also show this distinction clearly in all of our price charts which have a line for average daily trading prices, and a line for our valuation price.
It is true that, like any marketplace, liquidity depends on supply and demand, and in 2025 there are more sellers than buyers. This means that some industry bidders have been placing lower offers. However, many of our clients, and indeed the industry as a whole, have been choosing to hold stock rather than sell at those lower prices. In fact, earlier in the year we saw some ‘bulk trade bids’ fail where offers were below valuation. This suggests that both industry buyers and our clients feel that stock is fairly priced, or even slightly undervalued, but are waiting for clear signs of growth before committing. That said, in the last few months we have seen more bulk trade bids being successful at prices above our valuations, showing hints of improvements to the market.

Patience is key!
After seeing a lot of recent unfair negative review I thought I'd write a positive one to provide a more fair view. Whiskyinvestdirect provide a platform for buying and selling whisky and it works very well. They charge fees for storing whisky which are fair. However, they can't control external factors. If there is less demand for whisky it becomes harder to sell or selling is only possible at a loss. If it becomes harder to sell people unfairly blame whiskyinvestdirect and write negative reviews when there is not much they can do. These negative reviews then put potential new buyers off signing up to the platform further exasperating the problem of limited buyers. Meanwhile the whisky everyone continues to hold gains in age and value, albeit not (yet) on the live order book. I've more than doubled my money on this platform, but then again investing is about patience, not panic. It's not for everyone!

It started of well with frequent bulk purchases of the whisky that you held, however this has not happened since 2023. Prices have dropped through the floor.
Not much chance of getting your money back.

Recent Market Activity:
To give context:
A recent BTB at -5% below valuation received no interest and was therefore unsuccessful.
Another BTB also started at -5%, but after two counter-bids from different industry buyers, 70% of the stock was sold — suggesting industry demand was stronger than expected.
This highlights that while our valuation is a guide, industry buyers may bid higher when they want to secure stock.
Trading with Other Clients:
Most trades on our Live Order Board happen between retail clients, not directly with the industry. As such, prices can vary.
Right now, we’re in a buyer’s market. Many clients are placing lower bids to test what prices sellers are willing to accept, while sellers are listing their stock at different price points based on their own strategies.
Whisky is a long-term investment, and while short-term movements can be frustrating, we aim to provide a transparent and fair platform for both buyers and sellers.
We hope this explains why there is a disparity between what we value stock and what price you choose to sell it at on the Live Order Board.

Fluctuations will occur as with any commodity. However, historical data shows that maturing whisky typically appreciates in value over time. As with all investments, returns will vary depending on the timing and price you choose to sell.
Whilst we are not able to offer advice, we do provide ample information and graphs to help provide clients with the most accurate information to make informed decisions.
In regards to our sale orders, each completed trade is confirmed by a contract sent to the client. Upon reviewing your account, we can confirm that all sales orders are accurate and in order.
Clients can place their own sales orders via the live order board. There is no obligation to sell — you retain full control over your stock and can choose when, or if, to trade. Under no circumstances will we sell your stock on your behalf (with the exception to covering unpaid fees)— all trading decisions must be made by the account holder.
