Our Fourth Fantastic Trip with Untravelled Paths
Here’s a postcard from our Sicilian Experience- our fourth fantastic trip with Untravelled Paths.
We were met at the airport by a friendly and very professional driver for the journey into Palermo. Our hotel was opposite the Teatro Massimo, so couldn’t have been any more central to the old town. Palermo, with its vibrant historic markets was a real experience in terms of culture, sights, sounds, smells and colour. There was so much to see and do, we were glad we added three extra days there. On Day Five we met our fantastic, friendly and experienced guide, Dragos, just before the Food Walking Tour - a great experience.
We left Palermo on Sunday to go to the pretty (and quiet) town of Enna for a very enjoyable ceramic painting workshop and a visit to the castle before heading to Catania.
Whereas Palermo is noisy and bustling, Catania is perhaps less so. It has some amazing Baroque architecture, and again, there was a lot to see - Roman ampitheatre, a vibrant, noisy fish market, the cathedral and many amazing university buildings with incredible mosaic floors. Our hotel was a little oasis of calm in the middle of the city, spotlessly clean and with great staff.
The trip to Etna was amazing - especially as it had erupted two days previously. We went up in the cable car then onto an all terrain “bus” for a 45 minute walk round the craters. (I have allergic asthma and the high altitude did affect me a bit, but I was fine and well able to complete the walk once I’d gulped my inhaler 😁).
Taormina was our last stop en route to Cefalu. Taormina is a beautiful town with fabulous shops, cafes and restaurants, with beautiful alleyways - a photographer’s delight!
The last leg of our trip was three nights in Cefalu. Dragos left us at another lovely hotel in Cefalu, having taken care of all logistics and driven us expertly through the stunning Sicilian countryside. We really enjoyed his company. His English is perfect so there was no communication issue at all. He was accommodating and flexible and really made this a great trip, as did our previous UTP guides on earlier trips.
Cefalu is like an Italian St Ives; perfect to amble round at leisure and again, with so much to see. It’s been such a varied trip - we’ve both absolutely loved Sicily and would definitely come back. However, we have our next UTP trip in sight - Rural RomaniaI
Nothing is too much trouble for this company. Their passion is to provide you with a memorable adventure. If you love to travel but hate being a “package tourist”, give UTP a try. Go with an open mind and a flexible attitude. You won’t be disappointed. The passion of the business runs through its core, whoever you deal with. If small things go wrong, they are immediately put right. Just book, you will have a great time.
Georgia
Georgia! A fabulous trip around the stunning country of Georgia! Lucky to be joined by a wonderful small group ( only five of us) and the brilliant Makho. He was extremely knowledgeable and so passionate about his country, always looking to engage each member of our little team. Loved the variety of Georgian music that accompanied our drives. Would have loved to have stayed at the Baia winery so we could enjoy more of the most excellent food and drink. Could have skipped Botanical gardens in Batumi (as we had all enjoyed the one in Tbilisi)to spend more time in the town. Hotels were fantastic with breakfasts to match. The lunches en route throughout were delicious with Makho offering suggestions about what to share. This way we munched our way through Georgian cuisine. Makho taught us some Georgian too! Many thanks Makho, you made our trip incredible!
Only downside was some rather haphazard admin with incorrect emails requesting more money, twice.
UTP Montengro experience
Our tour guide Llija made our Montengro experience tour truly exceptional. He had an excellent indepth
knowledge and was so helpful. Our tour highlighted all different aspects of Montenegro from the magnificent mountain landscape, the lakes and the costal towns including Kotor. The accomodation was a high standard and we particularly enjoyed the eco village set in rural surroundings with the star gazing being amazing. Food is excellent and beer and wine very drinkable. So thanks again to UTP for a great holiday and particularly to Llija who was great (although a Liverpool supporter!!)
No sleep, thoughtless travel company…
I am only on the first night of my Bucharest trip with Untravelled Paths and I am writing this because they have put us into The Rembrandt hotel, which is renowned for being extremely noisy due to the musicians who perform loudly outside, singing with drums and synthesized music long into the night. Rendering sleep impossible. No thought as to how we might sleep or the impact this will have on the ongoing trip. What a thoughtless travel company. I am dreading the rest of this holiday and we haven't even started properly.

Just returned from the Georgia…
Just returned from the Georgia experience. I couldn’t recommend it more highly. Our guide Makho was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He organised the trip with incredible precision so we didn’t miss any of the visits on the itinerary. He offered advice on a range of activities in Tbilisi during my free time at the end of the trip. The Hotels were all excellent and the food delicious. Makho made sure we were equipped with the basic essentials of the language. The only slightly disappointing visit was to Batumi on the Black Sea which I heard described as the Georgian Las Vegas due to the number of casinos and the Piazza based on Venice. It also rained heavily during the evening and following morning. All the remaining Itinerary was superb with breathtaking views in the Kazbegi mountain area. The Spa town of Borjomi was charming and we enjoyed a very informative private tour of the family run Baia winery with a spectacular lunch. I had also booked a tour with Gamajoba tours on one of my free days and although it was of a very high standard, I really appreciate the work which had gone into Untraveled Paths Georgia experience. Thanks again to the team
Excellent tour staying in historic hotels and visiting a variety of places of interest.
The hotels were all very well placed and in historic buildings with character. Clean, comfortable and good breakfasts, friendly and helpful staff. Great company rep meet & greet and then excellent driving / tour guiding. Never rushed and good balance of activities and free time. Recommneded.
Extraordinary and fascinating
We recently returned from one of the best holidays of our lives. The Transylvanian Experience was absolutely extraordinary.
Romania is a country trapped in time in the best ways possible. The places visited ranged from a bear sanctuary to Dracula's Castle and birthplace, to a 12th century UNESCO village, and the accommodation was amazing, medieval attics and a Bond villain-style mountaintop retreat being highlights.
UTP did a phenonemal job of portraying this undervisited place, and you should book this before it becomes spoilt by tourism - it's a hidden gem!
I had a great time on the Transylvania Tour!
I had a great time on the Transylvania tour of Romania. The hotels were top notch and located right in town and near/on the main squares. One night was spent at a mountain resort with great views of the area. The guides were informative, flexible and fun. Meals were great. The amount of historical places and cities we visited during the tour was amazing. Communication before arriving and all during the tour was exceptional. Everything exceeded my expectations.
Well organised and well paced
Well organised and well paced. A really interesting and enjoyable week. Marius, our well informed, thoughtful and entertaining guide made sure everybody was looked after.
Had a great Time in Brasov Romania
Had a great Time in Brasov Romania, the hotel was great and the staff excellent, went on the Bear Watching Experience really great and the people were knowledgeable the whole experience was excellent, I would commend untraveled paths to anyone.
4 days of fun with Abdoul in the Sahara and Atlas Mountains
We had a fantastic Saraha Mini Experience with Untraveled Paths - led by the wonderful Abdoul! From the first minute we felt amazingly looked after and had the best 4-5 days travelling around, seeing amazing sights, trying amazing food and enjoying Abdoul's info about Morocco and his life and experiences. It was a trip of a lifetime and we could have asked for nothing more from Abdoul who took customer satisfaction to the next level - nothing was too much trouble. All accommodations and food were perfectly pitched, and the Untravelled Paths Admin Team ensured everything was explained up front and in clear language.
If I could give more stars I would
If I could give more stars I would. We have just got home from the Danube Delta Experience. The whole trip was outstanding in every way. The river, the flora and fauna we saw were way above expectations. Literally 1000s of birds: pelicans, eagles, yellow herons, night herons so many more. We saw wild horses in Letea and along the banks of the Danube. The Romanian people, who were our guides, were so friendly and knowledgeable and so happy in the work they are doing that it made the whole trip joyful. The hotels were fantastic, the food lovely. Seriously, we were so happy with our experience that we are already booking our next trip. Thank you Marius for all you did for us. Best wishes always. Patricia and Brian.
It was a great experience
It was a great experience. We were a group of 6 and that was very nice. The guide Marius made this whole think unforgettable. Very funny and helpful guy with tons of interesting stories during the trip. He was amazing. The Husky sledding itself was not what we expected. We thought we are stirring our own sled, instead we the two of us just sat in one sled and they stopped every 3 minutes. We paid the longer version which was way to expensive we realized afterwords. Other than that, the whole trip was a great experience, we loved it. Thank you Marius !!!
Husy Experience
My wife and I went on the Husky Experience. The whole trip was fabulous - stunning scenery; beautiful places to visit; great food. Marius was an excellent guide - brought the place to life with the history, and stories of each location. Would highly recommend.
Grey Wolves Experience / Braşov
I recently travelled (during February) to Romania. Having originally booked to take part in the “Grey Wolf Experience”, with a little bit of research I decided to stay in Braşov for the remainder of the week.
When I was planning the trip, Marius from UTP gave me some great feedback & support to build up an itinerary & give some advice on travel / activities in the area.
I arrived in Braşov a day early & took a trip by train to the stunning Peles castle. This was a tremendous experience, I took a guided tour & there was so much history to learn, really fascinating.
The next day we set off on the grey wolf experience. Our guide, Cosmin, was a passionate lover of nature & hugely knowledgeable about all the local wildlife (hosting wolf and bear experiences). We travelled through several locations based on where Cosmin had previously tracked Wolves. He gave so many insights throughout the trip it was fascinating. He is also pioneering nature & nature tourism in such an inspiring way. As a ‘nerd’, I was able to ask Cosmin about all the wildlife, forests and Romania in general and he always had time to answer the questions of the group. He was also totally considerate of the group and their needs throughout.
The weather was mixed, it was quite heavy snow one day but it was so atmospheric. When I booked this trip I was looking for some time in nature, which I loved. I realised the wolves are elusive but one of our group saw them and e saw many tracks & heard calls. It was well worth it.
I had an ace time, as a Scotsman I wasn’t too bothered by the cold but if you’re from a warmer climate so check the likely temperature & bring plenty of warm clothes. We also stayed and ate in a traditional Romanian chalet so if you have any dietary restrictions I would suggest checking (it’s a rich diet, our host made our cheese amongst other things & the local tea was superb). All in all this trip was well worth it but I would say if you are travelling it would be good to give yourself time before this trip. The UK group members who arrived the day before all arrived around 8 PM & we were out 6 AM the following day. Flight & transfer from UK is quite long. A minor point but hope that lets you plan to maximise the experience.
On the remaining aha in Braşov I toured the medieval town, went Snowboarding at Poiana Brasov & on my transfer home Marius took me to the airport via Slanic Prahova (& salt mine I rode a go kart in!).
A great trip, recommend the experience and booking with UTP. All the best to Marius and his team & Cosmin.
4 day Transylvania Husky experience
I went on the 4 day Transylvania Husky experience in Feb 2026 for myself and my 8yr old. I don’t have a bad word to share as everything about the trip from my initial enquiry until I was dropped back at the airport was so well thought out and better than expected. I would say prepare yourself for long periods travelling between destinations but the transport was comfortable and I felt we got a real feel of the beautiful Transylvanian region of Romania. Being pulled by the husky’s in the deep snow was unforgettable and I’d recommend paying extra for the longer experience. I was impressed by the beauty of the towns we stayed in and the hotels were well selected to be in the best parts of those towns. I couldn’t leave a review without mention of our guide Marius. His knowledge and expertise was what made an already great trip excellent. He was patient, informative, knowledgeable and considerate. I always felt safe and well looked after. I will definitely book another UTP trip in the future.
Morocco in the winter
Your guide can make or break a trip and our guide Abdul was fantastic. He was extremely proud of his vehicle and kept it immaculate. He shared so much knowledge of his fascinating country and had a wonderful sense of humour.
The trip itself was really well structured and varied. We had decided to go to Morocco over Christmas to escape the chaos at home. It definitely did not disappoint. At first we stayed in a beautiful hotel called Hotel Capaldi (45 minutes outside Marrakech) for a few nights before the official start date of the tour. I totally recommend it. It was peaceful and relaxing with incredible staff. My husband and I also shared a hamman experience which we both loved. Then we went to Marrakech. We stayed in Riad Dar One which had a lovely authentic Moroccan vibe and wonderful staff. My only complaint is that it only had a bath with a shower hose that you had to hold over you while standing in the stone bath. The souks are bustling, noisy and chaotic.(watch out for mopeds and bikes). We ate at some fantastic restaurants but were happy the Marrakech part of the tour was short. Then we went over the high Atlas Mountains which were covered in snow. Amazing views. A wonderful stop at a fantastic gorge and a short walk. We then stayed on a beautiful farm in the Skour Oasis run by a lovely French couple. Wish we could’ve had an extra night there. Then onto the Sahara. That was a fantastic experience. We rode camels across the dunes into the setting sun. Our tent for the night was perfect. It had everything you needed and was really comfortable. Then back on the road through mountains again to a charming place called Irocha. It had fantastic views, lovely staff and delicious food. The only downside was that it was really cold and after a cold night in the desert we were hoping for a hot shower. It was tepid at best and the drain blocked to that we had to forego a shower. Our guide Abdul said we should have told him and he would have sorted it out but it was 10pm and everyone had gone to bed so we had just left it. The final stop was for two nights in Kasbah Bab Ourika. Beautiful location and wonderful hotel. Their were similarities between it and our first hotel and although Kasbah Bab Ourika had a slightly better setting the Hotel Capaldi wins it for me. All in all another fantastic tour with Untravelled paths. Great itinerary, lovely hotels (albeit a few minor glitches).
Huge thanks to Abdul our guide and his cheerful greeting to us each day “ Life is good with Nos Nos. “
