I use The Curious Gem for my business. I place an order every few weeks and have been for years. The order is always correct and perfectly packed. It also arrives within a few days even with the economy delivery option. So reliable!
The products are fairy priced and there are options for all budgets. The stones are marked and pictured in terms of quality and size so you know what you are getting. Such a good range of quality findings and stringing materials!

The company had what I wanted in stock. It arrived very fast and was exactly what I ordered. I ordered frome smack rough diamonds, which are beautiful. I used one to make a ring and one for a matching pendant.

Would not recommend their sterling…
Would not recommend their sterling silver range. I have taken them out of their bags and displayed them for my clients and in 2 weeks of being left completely alone - they have begun to tarnish with black dots forming in between the links , the thinner chains have turned completely brown. I asked customer service for support and they refused to accept the poor quality even though my order totalled over £400 and I have sent them multiple pictures.
Do not recommend , please spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

We appreciate customers reaching out to us with any issues regarding our products, as it allows us to investigate potential problems and get this fixed.
I have reviewed the order details and the photos you provided. I can see that tarnishing has occurred on the chains. After checking our current stock, finding no signs of tarnishing, and not receiving similar feedback from other customers, I believe the chains have come into contact with something that caused this accelerated reaction. As you mention, the chains were sitting out on a display, if they have been exposed to chemicals, gases in the air, or even a humid environment, this will increase the rate of tarnishing and will cause the type of reaction you have described above.
I noticed that you have two of our best-selling sterling silver chains, which our customers have been purchasing for many years without issue. This leads us to believe that the chains have come into contact with something after you received them, which is beyond our control.
I can see that we have provided suggestions on how to remove the tarnish and offered recommendations for storage solutions to prevent this from happening in the future, I do hope this helps.

Hello there, I’m sorry to hear about the disappointment you experienced while making a return with us. I understand you received some pearls that looked smaller than you were expecting. Upon measuring the pearls when they were returned, we confirmed that they did meet the sizing description provided on our website.
I appreciate that visualizing sizing when shopping online can be challenging, which is why we provide detailed sizing descriptions and offer a 30-day return period. Following our returns policy, if items are returned due to being unsuitable, the return postage is non-refundable.
Customer satisfaction is very important to us, and I am sorry to see this experience has meant you no longer wish to shop with us. However, we have handled your return in the same manner as we would for all of our valued customers to ensure fairness.
They double charge to complete order and then refund one payment. Absolute nonsense
One you have placed an order their service is great however, their payment system is a mess. I placed an order for £28 which was immediately taken from my bank account. Their website then asked me to click confirm to complete the purchase at which point they tried to bill me a second time which was declined. They then said the order hadn’t been placed and the original £28 would be refunded in a few days and I could order again. To place the order I had to remove items from my basket to get it under a certain amount and then complete that purchase at which point the initial £28 was refunded. Which makes no sense at all. I had £53 in my bank but as they took £28 and then tried to double take there wasn’t enough to pay twice so they declined the order. I eventually whittled my order down to £21 which was accepted and the £28 they had already taken was refunded. So now I have £32 in my account and an order for £21 I clearly had enough to pay the £28 I needed but their ridiculous system made it impossible. Now I need to place a second order for the items I had to remove and will have to pay extra postage cost for the second order. Absolute nonsense. I am waiting for an explanation after emailing them to ask why.
The reply they have added here is not true. When I clicked confirm my payment was then declined as they had already taken the money and the remaining balance was lower than £28. I sent them screen grabs to prove this. I then had to change the basket after it was declined to get the payment to go through. They are straight up lying in their reply.

Hi there- I am sorry to hear about the difficulty you had checking out with Paypal on our website. Occasionally when this payment method is selected, Paypal will conduct a balance check on your card. If you do not return to our website to complete your order, it may look like the funds have been taken from your account. However, this is just a temporary hold by paypal that will disappear if the order is not placed. In this case, as your basket was then amended it caused the issue described above. This only happens on the rare occasion that the order is amended. I understand you reached out to us over live chat and email when you were having this trouble and although the Paypal funds check is out of our control, we assisted with advice and steps to have this removed and get this resolved. I can see we also offered to add the items that you removed on your first order, to avoid any extra postage costs and you having to place a second order, which you declined. I will reach out to directly to ensure that you were able to have this temporary hold removed by Paypal.
A great company to deal with
I have ordered from Curious Gem many times, they have fabulous pieces both for the jewellery maker/designer and ready to wear customers. The range of findings they offer is huge, including vermilion which is not always easy to find, is great quality and at competitive prices. I have always found the website easy to use and the item descriptions accurate. Delivery is prompt with good communication especially if an order or part of an order is delayed.

A shame
To be fair - delivery was great, half the order was too. Sadly the most expensive part of the order was dire: chipped and cracked beads. One has to pay postage to return, I phoned to check, which is pretty poor, when item is sub-standard - imo. I buy a lot of beads and was hopeful for this new company, great selection and reviews are generally superb, but I’d really rather not pay, to return poor quality goods.

We gave you our address and said returns are at the cost of the customer which you accepted and the call ended. We didn't realise the beads were faulty or damaged (we sell beads in a number of different qualities/grades so had assumed you were looking for a higher quality of stone). Once we receive them back we will certainly refund you your postage if they are damaged, that is definitely our responsibility.
