It is amazing that Old Mutual is not responding to all the complaints from their customers that have been posted here, so I know that they will not respond even to my one, but I am posting this to help anybody who is considering doing new business with Old Mutual, and anybody who still has some products with them. One thing guaranteed that will happen is that when you need to use your money. You will not get it in time, or you won't get all of it. For me this bad service started in 2012, when I had a lump sump to invest. I contacted this longstanding company seeking advise of their products, I was looking for an investment account with the possibility of accessing my money when I needed it, but I ended up with a retirement savings account that I cannot access till Im 55 years. The error got blamed to a financial advisor that sold me the product without explaining what is was and its conditions to me. But last year I again approached them and opened a few investment accounts. Evrytime when I need to with draw the money because of a 'need', I dont get it , in time. The customer service is beyond bad. The complaints channels are also not responsive. So basically when you need this company to come through for you. THEY WILL NOT DO IT. The email addresses you were using to communicate when investing your money. They will be unanswered when you need to withdraw your money. The complaints channels that they have, do not work, when its now about the withdrawals. So my advice to everybody, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY, rather invest with your bank.

Terrible service. Been waiting months for an life insurance policy to be paid out. Every day its a different excuse. Do not recommend using this company.

I need to say that I am giving it one star only because I have to, I would not have given it any stars if it were up to me. Old Mutual has everything in writing as to why I chose on behalf of my minor child, to do a disinvestment with them, if you are reading this on behalf of Old Mutual - go look up that 2 page statement that I sent back in January. In short, Old Mutual has stolen R29K+ of my minor child's money, and their argument seems to be that it was paid to me - Well NO it wasn't! What was paid is the sum of the debit orders, what was NOT paid is the lumpsum money of R29K+. I even have it in writing that the money is reflecting on their side, but needs to still be allocated to my son's account. How can it be that after 2 months this money is still not allocated?? When I asked them, all of a sudden all my emails are being ignored. Who has the time to spend hours on a phone call in a day to only have someone answer the call, not even help or transfer the call to the right person who can help? I have been fighting this fight since December 2023 and now in February 2024 there is still no joy. Please to anybody reading this, DONT EVER make use of Old Mutual. Their products sound good but they only interested in getting their filthy hands on your hard earned money, they don't care about you or your family's financial well being.

Please do not trust the consultants at OM. They are generally inclined to tell you what you want to hear and not disclose all the information to help you make an informed decision as to whether you should or should not invest with them. The consultants at OM are only interested in earning the commissions from you making the investments. Read the contract before you invest any amount. The consultants are supposed to be honest and fair but my experience has shown that they are generally not so.
I invested some money with them at Krugersdorp. I asked all of the appropriate questions and was assured that my investment would earn a fairly handsome interest rate. Furthermore, I could deposit and withdraw as I required. I did not receive a copy of my signed contract for about 2 months after signing it. I phoned and requested it numerous times without success. Eventually I went to the branch and insisted that the contract be sent to me. After a year I found that the interest rate which I was quoted was nowhere near what I was told. I withdrew some of my investment and was heavily penalized, even though the consultant assured me there was no penalty. Soon after this the consultant left OM. This then gave them every excuse under the sun to deviate around what was told me. I attempted to withdraw all of my investment and was heavily penalized again.
I would recommend that if you have money to invest, rather approach your bank which will guarantee a return on the investment.

Old Mutual Insure declined my car insurance claim on vague reasons, when I asked them to provide their evidence so I can argue clearly when appealing the decision through their appeals process, they refused, claiming their evidence was "their property" and that they couldn't share it with me. This included cellphone conversations with me and the "witnesses" they had. They refused to share the evidence then continued to decline the second time.

It was when I took the matter to the Ombudsman that they shared with the evidence with them, to this day, they have not sent me the evidence. The "evidence" reveals my assessor, Joe Masilela, started the interviews with "Tell me about the BM that caused the accident". This is obvious bias, at the very least, this was rehearsed. These "witnesses" continued to clam than I was speeding and the insurer continued on to say I was "reckless" because I didn't "minimise the effects of the accident" .

A friend of mine advised that I could download the Tracker report myself (which I gave the Insurer access). Not only does the report say I was not speeding, it also said I applied "Harsh brakes". Going against the witnesses and insurer. It is obvious that this assessor this biased, he had to have seen this report, yet he never said anything, never pushed back with the witness statements. He does this for a living!

Instead he made up lies and said I didn't try avoiding the effects of the accident.

In almost a year now paying for a car I can't drive because OMI wants to make a quick buck, they've even removed Hellopeter and Trustpilot on their website, opting for an obscure rating agency "Feefo" to sell the façade of good customer experience. Everyone sees through the scam that OMI, trying every trick in the book to not pay claims, while gladly taking premiums. I'm very disappointed as I trusted this insurer. Please try another insurer or better yet, save your money under the mattress for tough days, at least then you will know you are alone. It is less stress than deal with these insurers, turning into a PI, investigating your own case as you know they are not investigating your matter fairly. Run! Run! Run!

I tried to claim a pension payout on a death, emailed 3 different email addresses, and no answer, only an automatic reply. I am overseas so I am very annoyed. I have had no trouble getting money from Liberty Life. So don't waste your money.

Shocking Customer service - I requested an adjustment in my Pension payment six months ahead of anniversary date - Old Mutual refuse to honour request despite repeated phone calls and emails.
Unfortunately I can only advise - not to be trusted with your funds and avoid at all costs.

Old mutual is the worst never trust this company with your savings they will not only tell you to wait 19 days for a refund of your money but they will involve 2 companies to reverse your money and you will get close to nothing of your investments I wouldn't recommend them to anyone

Old mutual scammed me. Debiting money from my bank fraudulently for the product I never signed for. Only find out when I was going through my statement. The promised to get back and refund within 6 to 8 weeks. They never get back to me. Never received my money. I had to dispute the last debit and stopped them. Disputing also goes with charges. I hate them and regret every business I ever done with them

I want to thank the very kind gentleman who swiftly assisted me today at the Old Mutual branch in Centurion Mall. (Unfortunately I forgot to get his name).

I currently reside in the USA, and I can assure you that the service I received today was top notch!

High fees that increase every year (+10% the first year), extremely slow procedure.
I was a victim of a motorcycle accident that wasn’t my fault.
It is still not resolved after 2 months. They offered me a bad coverage even if I am on a premium contract.
And few weeks after making me a first offert for my claim, they took it back and made a lower one.
They are absolutely rude, not taking consideration for the victims.
And their emergency hotline is a joke : I was bounced from one service to another while I was still on the floor from my accident.

Terrible, will find someone else as soon as my yearly contract with them is finished.

Useless communication unreliable service

Admin fees on a RA policy sit at 3.49% and they’re taking another increase. And they have not furnished me with the growth figures and it’s almost impossible to get hold of a real human to help. Worst investment I’ve ever made and one of the worst businesses to deal with!

Great team. Wonderful to work with! Would recommend them if you need a quick small loan.

We booked this place for 3 nights last September. The washroom/toilet on the living room floor was out of order. The owner and his partner did not have the problem sorted out. The washroom was a mess(we have pictures). The leak was major and it affected the electrics in the rooms below the living room level. In 3 out of 5 rooms, power points were out of order, room lights were not working, air-conditioners were not working - and it was cold. They did not check after the plumber had repaired the leak. The waste water that leaked from the cistern had probably shorted a number of power circuits. BUT washing machine cable had to be re-routed. Horrors!

Light bulbs were randomly blown and not replaced. Our washroom/toilet light in the master bedroom was blown the whole time we were there - we had to shower and use the toilet in the dark. How did they think they could rent this place out with an electrical problem. The owner calls it a minor issue, we don't think it was.

The owner was unreasonable. They would not call an electrician because it was a weekend, they wanted to call the electrician on Monday after we were due to leave for home, how bizarre! Only after we insisted did they agreed to call in an electrician BUT they wanted us to supervise the electrician. We were on vacation, we did not want to spend our time doing this as it was a major electrical fault. While the owner and his partner were generally polite and attentive, they were ineffective with only pleasantries.

They should have not rented out a sub-standard apartment when the services are not working!

In the AirBnB listing, the owner describe himself as an investment portfolio manager living in Cape Town, so we did not expect what we experienced.
