Oakwood took care of the sale of my late father’s flat.

The communication was excellent and we managed to complete the sale of the flat sooner than expected.

Our Conveyancer, Karla Kilby was extremely helpful, polite, knowledgeable and friendly and I would recommend this company to anyone looking to buy or sell a property.

Everyone there is helpful and professional.
We cannot praise them or thank them enough for everything they did throughout a long and tricky sale.
Friendly, knowledgeable, professional and approachable....most recently had more contact with Karla, but everyone else indifferent ways too.

We sold and purchased our new home through Oakwood. Karen Dines was fantastic and very responsive and was supportive when communication with our seller got difficult. On the Sale side, Karla was excellent with chasing up our buyers solicitors and going above and beyond to get our sale through. We are truly grateful for both of them.

The pair we were initially allocated were not the best to be honest, you might as well have been talking to a robot. Neither of the two could address us by name in an email and response was not specific. We were later told the solicitor left Oakwood and the assistant was switched when our purchase fell through.

If those two had not been removed, I'm not sure if we would have completed our purchase and sale in time.

Karla was absolutely brilliant and made what has been a very stressful 18 months much easier.

Really helpful and efficient

Helpful friendly team but in keeping with most conveyancers could be speedier - it's seems easy to lose weeks in the process I guess often created by other organisations.
There appear to be conveyancers advertising their services who can guarantee much faster processes so I wonder why all conveyancers can't achieve similar outcomes?

We were extremely disappointed with the service provided by Oakwood Property Solicitors, which ultimately led to us submitting a formal complaint.

While we recognise that our purchase was a little complicated, our solicitors were often hard to get hold of, communication was often very slow, and progress towards resolving key issues frequently felt very slow unless we intervened ourselves.

Overall the process felt reactive rather than actively managed, which created a huge amount of unnecessary stress.

We formally raised our concerns regarding communication, delays and case management. We do not feel that the complaint was properly investigated or meaningfully addressed, and no satisfactory resolution was offered.

Based on our experience, the service fell well below the standard we expected and we do not recommend Oakwood Solicitors to others.

Would rate it 0 stars if I could. Extremely unprofessional and unhelpful. Unhelpful directors and consistently unavailable Solicitors. Have a sale that’s dragged and dragged and then a property transfer that we were poorly advised on and eventually told it should be a sale despite that being the FIRST question we asked. Issues with consent and GDPR. Mixed messages constantly. Zero apologies for distress caused. The negative reviews are spot on! Avoid! Avoid!

Staff are constantly out of office and clearly don’t have capacity to take on customers so drag them along and cause avoidable delayed instead.

If you inform them you’re aware of SRA guidelines and will raise a complaint they penalise you. The people investigating your complaint and also listed within the complaint so lots of conflict of interest. Couldn’t make this up!

We have found everybody at Oakwood friendly, efficient and professional. We have always received our rent on time without any hassle and they always answer emails quickly.

An absolute useless firm. They are more dishonest than second-hand car salesmen. For around 2 years they messed me around.

Promising anywhere between £20,000 - £100,000 for a huge neglect case against the NHS and a separate case against my old work company.

Both of which turned out to be a wild goose chase, where the Oakwood underqualified "solicitors" would make excuses for delays, and blatantly ignore phone calls and emails.

They are snakes in suits. Do not trust them or you will have your time wasted too. Clearly all of the fake positive reviews are done by the company itself. It is common practice these days.

Just focus on the negative reviews because they are the only truthful ones. Avoid this place like you would avoid a rodent. They are scammers and scum.

Had the best experience with Oakwood Property Solicitors. We signed off our paperwork just before Christmas and completed ok the 31st of Jan! Didn’t think it was possible to complete so fast. Steven was absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for making this process so simple for us.

Further to my review from 23rd August '23, and eventually purchasing my flat on 3rd November '23, I am unfortunately left even more dissatisfied than previously by this firm. Gemma Atkinson as mentioned in my previous review and who has now left the firm, decided not to pay the licence to assign to the landlord and instead transferred the money back to my bank account in April '24, describing it simply as a 'balance to be returned' to me. I told her by email that I wasn't expecting any money back, but she didn't reply and the money was duly returned. I was gob smacked when I received an invoice nine months later from the landlord demanding immediate payment for the exact thing I knew I had paid to the solicitor. I also had the correspondence to prove it. At first I was sure it had to be a mistake and that it could be quickly sorted.

After more than a week waiting for a response, I was eventually contacted by Deborah Myerson, Gemmas replacement and received the following reply;

Dear Adam
Apologies for the delay in replying to you. As your file had been archived, and because it completed before I started at the firm, it has taken me a little time to retrieve it and try to work out what has happened here.

I can see that the completion statement reflected the various fees that were due to the management company, and you did of course send these to us. In fact the statement should have included a Notice of Assignment fee of £72.00, and this, added to the PAS fees on the completion statement, comes to £438.23, which is the amount PAS are claiming.

I can also see that Gemma was in correspondence with the management company regarding payment of these fees, as we would normally pay them directly to the management company. However, from what I can see of the file, it looks as though the fees were never paid to PAS. I can’t say why as Gemma no longer works here. I can only apologise on behalf of the firm for this error.

However, she then transferred this money back to you on 4th April, and the file was then closed. So unfortunately, this money does need to be paid to PAS.

If you wish, you can pay this directly to them. Alternatively, if you wish to send the funds to us first, we can then make payment to them. Please let me know which you would prefer.

I am on annual leave tomorrow, but will be back in on Thursday.

As well as the money that Gemma didn't pay to the Landlord, there was an additional sum of £72 which she had omitted.

I was of course, extremely disappointed. Although I accepted it had to be paid, I asked Oakwood Property Solicitors to support me by paying the invoice for me initially and allowing me to spread the payment back to them over a period.

Needless to say they have ignored me.

This situation has left me heavily out of pocket and extremely dissatisfied.

After this experience, I would advise anyone thinking of using a solicitor for conveyancing to choose a more established and reputable city centre based firm.
