NHS App update a huge step backwards
How an earth NHS can say the March update has made the App easier to use is beyond me . They need to fix what they’ve broken . Where current app users involved in the update / I suspect not .
This was such an easy to use intuitive App before they meddled with it . It’s practically useless now & a huge step backwards .
You NHS idiots ..
You NHS idiots ... app was wonderful before and now I can't find anything.... nhs idiots taking money from our tax and nin payment... why you need change it .... just laid off your main it manager ... he is complete imbecile .... terrible
Bureaucratic gatekeeping- wastes everyone’s time and stops you seeing a doctor
Clearly, the current NHS App/online system is designed to reduce GP appointments rather than genuinely help patients. It acts as an effective gatekeeper: if you persist long enough you might get what you need; many people simply give up, ignore symptoms, head to A&E, or stop treatment altogether.
My latest experience trying, to continuing a prescription, is typical and perfectly illustrates the problem:
I completed a long, largely irrelevant online questionnaire.
The next day, waiting by the phone for a call, I received an automatic email rejection: “No, you can’t have that.”
I tried to book a proper appointment on the app — blocked with the message “you cannot request prescriptions this way.”
I walked into the surgery. The receptionist told me “you should be able to do this on the app,” then submitted the request manually while making me feel in the wrong.
Now I have no idea whether a prescription has been approved or not. No notification will be given. If nothing appears at the pharmacy in 5 days (as I suspect), I get to walk back in and start the whole process again and see if I can actually see a doctor.
Ten years ago, this was simple: a quick phone call or word with the receptionist, a short appointment (often same or next day), the GP - who knew you - would check what was needed (quick exam if required), and the matter was sorted in minutes.
Today, what used to take 5–10 minutes of doctor time has turned into hours of patient and receptionist effort - questionnaires, dead-end messages, conflicting advice, repeated visits and phone calls - with no guarantee of success.
The system is highly inefficient, stressful, and confusing. It is actively driving patients away from routine care. (For anxious, elderly, less tech-savvy or time-poor people it is simply inaccessible.) The end result? More serious conditions downstream, more cost, more pressure on A&E, and an enormous waste of time for everyone.
This is not a teething problem with the app. It is a policy choice that has replaced a straightforward, human process with an over-engineered bureaucratic mess.
The digital-first approach is working brilliantly at one thing: reducing productive GP appointments. Unfortunately, it is doing so at the expense of timely, safe patients care.
Very bad move NHS!
I accessed the new NHS app today, replacing the old one. Access to repeat prescriptions, test results, health history and documents have all completely disappeared. These were all available with the previous version.
Also access to communicating a problem or request directly to my GP surgery has been moved to the most inappropriate place, and I only found it by accident. The NHS app has changed from being really helpful and useful for patients, to something completely and utterly useless.
Fairy Tail of the NHS App advert on…
Fairy Tail of the NHS App advert on commercial radio. Who had the ideaof this advert? They have never tried using the app to tell your GP whatis wrong with you or to book an appointment. In Basingstoke you have 8am trying to get an online form to get a chance of an appointment in the current month.. I draft what I want to say in a draft email, then .7.55am start trying to get the online form - pressing refresh every 20 seconds until one pops up. Then cut and paste from my draft and success. It's like trying to get Oasis tickets!
Completely useless.
Completely useless.
Login is so erratic.
Incorrect appointment time on app
An appointment was arranged for me by phone at 11.00am on 19/3/26. A message appeared on the app early this morning giving a time of 9.00am. I only saw this at 9.05 so I thought I had got the time wrong. I found out when I phoned the hospital that 11.00 was the correct time. So the information I was sent was incorrect and nearly caused me to miss my appointment.
I was trying to log in to the nhs app…
I was trying to log in to the nhs app today and was not happy with the way they were wanting me to send my id information to them.
I will not do that under the data protection act. As I find this a violation of my human rights.
Also would recommend that everyone stays clear of this app.

Really poor
Really poor system -just logging in is complicated. easier to ring you GP which is saying something !
Not fit for purpose
Not fit for purpose. No letters are ever added . Just incompetence . I'm embarrassed for whoever designed & runs it.
Minus 5 stars…
If it was possible to rate this app lower than one star I would give minus 5 stars! I foolishly believe each time I try this app it will be better.. How many times can a person be so wrong? We are constantly told to avoid wasting nhs time and not to miss appointments, good luck in trying to use the app to make changes to an appointment!
Every time I try to use the app I loose at least an hour of whatever life I have left.
NHS (cr)app
NHS (cr)app. A complete waste of time.
Logging in...required to enter a code supplied by text. Go to text to get code and then back to app. Have to start all over again and this loop just repeats every time.
Impossible to use.
Message and code sent to same phone, doh!
The nhs contacts you via your phone, but won't let you log on until you enter the code they sent...to the same phone, but of course the code is no longer correct by the time you go back into the app. You need a new code. You can oscillate between the app and the no-longer-correct code for hours. You never read the message, what is the point of this rubbish?
Do they even want people to use it?
This is confusing and stressful. All I want is to order my prescriptions, which I have been able to do easily via email for years but was told NHS App should be used now instead. If you don't have photo ID after being sent constant email and phone number security codes, you are bombarded with more codes and passkeys you now need to get from a GP. It is almost impossible to actually get to speak to a GP. Genuine question as a young adult... how are elders meant to use this? When their passports and driving licenses have expired? When it's difficult enough setting it up? Does their health just not matter anymore? Ridiculous app.
I agree it's rubbish
This app is very difficult and awkward to set up I've tried at least seven times, and, still can't register. I don't agree it's worth one and a half star ⭐ or one star ⭐ come to that it's useless. Also as a none passport holder l have to jump through flaming hoops backwards while playing a nose flute and reciting war and peace in mandarin Chinese. Avoid 😭

Using this app is like trying to book a haircut using smoke signals. Waste of time and Monday, appalling UX. No wonder mental health crises are so prevalent… I can imagine some of it stems from trying to use the app. 🙄
Like the Dr's surgery
Like the Dr's surgery , doesn't work
USELESS APP
What is the point of having this app when GP's and Hospital consultants do not update the app with test results?
