We loved our campervan, great service on arrival, well equipped. Very warm and comfortable sleeping.
9 days on South Coast

We hired a Mighty Camper in NZ on 30/4/26 for 12 days. Picking it up in Queenstown and dropping it off in Christchurch.
From the outset we had no hot water. As we picked the camper up at just before close of business on the Thursday having only arrived in Queenstown around 2.30 pm by plane from Australia we had no way of knowing there was a problem. We returned the next day to the Mighty depot in Queenstown. It took 90 minutes to fix the problem( so they said). However as the water pump was under the bed sheeting,rugs,doonas were thrown everywhere and left for us to replace and return our things to their place.
We were told it was fixed but that the mixer in the sink in the kitchenette was broken. We left disappointed. That night 200 kms north of Queenstown we had no hot water and none for the next 4 days. It was fixed by a true mechanic in Hokitika on Monday after many text/emails to Mighty. Given it was a weekend we appreciate the difficulty however why were we allowed to leave Queenstown with a faulty camper?
When we returned the camper to Christchurch 7 days later we received $100 refund for our troubles out of $2660. After 5 months this week I finally received another $190. Seriously $290 refund out of $2660 for no hot water for 5 days,no hot/cold water tap in the sink for 12 days,having to extend the shower water nozzle from the shower to the kitchen sink for 12 days!!
Mechanically the camper was fine.
What the company needs is:
a complete customer overhaul.
From the start ( Thursday 30/4/26) until the end (Monday (11/5/26) we were ignored or made to feel inadequate by our comments/suggestions.
Mighty had every opportunity to be a fair working company however they have no idea of customer service.
Recommendations:
Put competent staff on in the front office,experienced mechanics in the workshop and friendly sensitive management staff in your outlets. Visitors from overseas come maybe once and hire your campers.They deserve better than incompetent,disinterested staff members.
Rest assured if we return to NZ and we hope we will we will never hire a Mighty Camper there.

the car was not well maintenance, so the brake pad was thin and have warning signals, worry all the way.

While our overall experience with the camper van was positive, I am writing to formally highlight a significant issue we encountered with a blocked bathroom. Traveling with a toddler made this lack of facilities highly inconvenient and negatively impacted our trip. I reported this to the staff upon returning the vehicle, but I want to ensure the issue is officially documented and resolved so that future customers do not face the same experience.

Easy, simple comfortable and such an enjoyable trip with the kids! Everything was catered for and thought of. The “pantry” in the main office was so handy too!

We had a great experience and will definitely remember it. Everything was explained clearly during check-in, and the staff were very friendly and helpful both at check-in and check-out.

The campervan was spotless and in excellent condition. We even received a free upgrade, which was a fantastic surprise!

We highly recommend this company and would happily use them again.

Great van rental in Queenstown! Location is close to the airport so pickup was simple. The rep gave a great tour of a well taken care of van. The van fit our needs and I’m very happy with it. The only downside is the drop off, they’re not really in a hurry to get you a van ride, which was kind of a bummer but how it goes.

There was lots of storage for things like clothes, not so much for bags though, well appointed.
The camping seats were awesome!

Overall a great experience and the Camper was awesome. The staff were friendly but the drop back was a bit painful and took a while. 1st world problems. I would use them again for sure.

Highly recommend Mighty Campers. We hired a van and were lucky to get a brand new one. Was so great to travel in and suit all our needs. Will definitely be back. Thanks again

Booked an RV for 4 days, paying a tariff matching the 5 day minimum, plus the "platinum package" for insurance, roadside assistance etc. We are talking about NZD4800 for 4 days of camper van.

When I picked up the vehicle from the queenstown branch, I immediately saw a few red flags: vehicle was 4 years old, had travelled over 90,000km, and the last inspection report showed dings and scratches everywhere. When I pointed out to the attendant that I was paying the same daily price as a 5-star resort in Dubai for this vehicle and would appreciate something in better shape, he arrogantly told me that if I wanted something newer, id have to pay extra for it. The inspection and tour of the RV that followed was rushed through, allowing our friend to be on his way to swindle the next hapless tourist. I was given the keys and hit the road.

Fast forward 3 days later, and what was obviously going to happen happened, with the RV breaking down in the middle of Arthur's pass, stranding me and my wife along with our 2 young children for over 4 hours. To their credit the assistance team showed some basic empathy, and managed to get a mechanic to us before sundown the same day.

Upon return of the camper van, no possibility of the slightest compensation or partial reimbursement for our troubles. I did get to pay the nzd60 road tax calculated from the distance travelled, as a final f*@k you before flying out.

Just another sad example of New Zealand's tourist industry going completely rogue. Approach with caution.
