Please don't use them,
They have thieves as a receptionist and they took £120 from my account without my permission as extra fee.
I called the bank and returned the money and they took another amount again, they stole my bank card details.

Hertz Malta are to be avoided at all costs. We were accused of very minor scartches to a hire car which we could prove happened before our rental period and charged for 780 euros for the cost of fixing the car ( which was covered in marks) and for the loss of use which is a blatent fraudulant lie. They have moderated their paperwork to keep the same amount but to change the lie showing the fraud commited. You may ask whyvwe let them get away with it? Well we paid extra to drop off out of hours due to early flight and wrongly assumed that - due to additoonal cost- someone would be there to meet us. The result: opportunity for the company to fraudulant do a check without us and ignore our evidence. Do not make the mistake that we did and go with another company.

Would have given 0 stars if it was possible.

AVOID HERTZ Dubai at all costs, hired car in DECEMBER 2025. Then 3 months later in MARCH our Credit Card was used fraudulently used by this company staff. They obviously keep your card information long after your hire. Will show as (Al Futtaim) which is umbrella of Hertz.

Many emails later, still trying to get my money back, had to cancel my credit card. What a bunch of scammers 😢

Actually same happened when hired from Hertz Dublin a year ago, so please do be care with Hiring.

I would avoid Hertz at all cost.

If there are ANY issues, they will simply hide behind "you signed for this in the terms and agreements"

They swapped out the car for me on my day of arrival, called it an upgrade, well i didn't want an upgrade, but i'm in a foreign country, i HARDLY have room to barter when i'm on a schedule. So when i raised this at the end they hid behind, well you signed for it.

Further to this; i got a parking charge for 9.00 that they added a 30.00 fine ontop of, when i said to them i paid for the parking in the app that the parking site wanted, they said "dispute it with the company theirselves as they don't communicate with the companies" i said how can they just charge me without them communicating to me first, or the company, again they fell back on "you agreed to this in the terms and agreements". So despite me PAYING for the parking and PROVING it to them, they still said their hands were tied.

I left my expensive sunglasses in my car when i rushed from the car to the airport (This is on me and is my fault) but when i asked Hertz to check their CCTV or whether they took an inventory of the car whilst it was cleaned, they completely declined to assist and just said "nothing in the car sorry". They then refused to provide an inventory or CCTV of the car being "cleaned". Lets be real, someone just pocketed the glasses and they couldn't be bothered to look into it.

Basically, if everything goes well, good luck to you, if there is ANY and i mean ANY issue, you have 0 chance of getting it resolved.

They will just hide behind T&C's and then ignore you.

Appalling customer service

Absolutely dreadful customer service. It appears to be completely impossible to speak to a person. I am a gold member and will NEVER use them again. In January I made a booking to hire a car from Almeria airport in April for one week. In February I amended the reservation to extend it to ten days. I did this through the ‘modify reservation’ option. When I arrived they had both reservations. I explained what I had done and the Almería member of staff recognised that it was not an error on my part. I have now been charged a ‘no show’ fee which Hertz are insisting is valid- for their error!

Hertz saved our holiday.

Arrived at Glasgow airport to collect pre booked car from Europcar but they refused to hire me a car due to some undisclosed reason. Family holiday over before it began. Thank goodness for Hertz! They stepped in and hired me a car no problem. Will definitely go to Hertz first in future although it was quite a costly hire compared to the original Europcar quote hence 4 stars rather than 5. The Hertz guy was brilliant, really patient and helpful. Jason is his name and he deserves a pay rise!

They charged £1000 for a windscreen…

They charged £1000 for a windscreen chip and I had video the car when I returned it. Nobody was at their depot when I returned the car at time stated. So I handed key to representatives at airport desk and they said it was okay to leave car in car park , so nobody from Hertz checked car in my presence. Next time I checked my credit card app , I discovered they had taken 60 pence short of a thousand pounds from my card. The average price for the Hyundso is £400 new windscreen, chips can be repaired. I never see any chip on windscreen and this company didn’t even have decency to tell me they had charged me.
Very devious company.
I doubt if I’ll ever use a car hire company again after this experience.

BEWARE HERTZ at Malaga Airport

BEWARE HERTZ at Malaga Airport. They FORGED my signature after i had already returned the hire car and are now asking Euros 340 for damages i did NOT cause. See you in court and Hertz, do you know it's a criminal offence to forge a person's signature. BEWARE.

Absolutely dire

Absolutely dire. Booked a car at Geneva (French side). Not only was the lady extraordinarily aggressive and rude but they charged more than the original booking by falsely arguing that I hadn't included theft protection when very clearly the theft is included in the CDW that I bought via their subsidiary, Dollar Car Rental.

An official complaint is now going in and I will also be raising this with Barry Cooney, who is the exec. in charge of escalated complaints for Customer Services.

Consistent lies from staff

Consistent lies around the release of deposits on credit cards. Blaming bank..it wasnt the bank.

More than 2 weeks to release hold on creit card .

current one at a month still have a hold on credit card.

No published contact number, deliberatley avoid accountability and contact with customer.

I will have to go through the bank fraud team to resolve

The staff were friendly and knowledgeable

The staff were friendly; knowledgeable about the rental process and about the features and rental prices for the cars on offer. The lady on the checkout remembered our names when we arrived at the airport desk which was nice. We received a car upgrade as we are Hertz members. I had a query after I returned the car and it was responded promptly. It’s our “go to” rental hire company when myself and my husband hire from Knock Airport (Ireland) and we are very happy with the service they provide. Thank you for a smooth process and the car suited our needs.

Charged me a no show when their van…

Charged me a no show when their van wouldn’t let me unlock. Arrived at my booking like I have done many times before but when asked to confirm my face it kept failing saying it could not be authorised and to contact customer service. Reached out to the live chat where I was waiting for over 30 minutes at which point I had to go and collect something. I was then charged a no show, despite the error on their part. They are now saying I can’t prove I was there, I’m guessing my chat history asking to why I could not unlock the vehicle while stood right next to it was just fabricated. Unless you have photographic evidence they will charge you regardless, thieving horrible company. Document EVERYTHING or prepared to be robbed.

The whole process from start to finish…

The whole process from start to finish was a nightmare. I am quite good when it comes to technology, but from start to finish it was a total disaster. Trying to book in the first instance was so confusing, then having to download an app on top off an already confusing website. Then having no choice to pay the £5 registration fee, then the app didn’t link my booking so I was left stranded in b&q car park for an hour and a half trying to contact absolutely anybody to help only to be told you can’t speak to anyone via telephone, it has to be via a live chat in the app which wasn’t there. Then I received an email the following day to be told I will still be charged for the rental of the van. Fair enough after I sent across evidence proving I wasn’t able to access the van, they have agreed to refund me. However, they said I have an out of date app installed and needed to install the one from the link, I clicked the link and it took me to the exact same one I had already downloaded. Never ever will I use hertz to hire a van again

Charged after being told fees were waived - unacceptable service

I had a very frustrating experience. From the start, I had issues accessing the vehicle due to problems with the app - I couldn’t log in, and password reset emails were not coming through. This caused a delay before I could even begin my journey.

I attempted to contact customer services multiple times, but there was no response, and the 24/7 phone support was not accessible when I needed urgent help. Instead, a local rental office informed me that the call centre had been closed a few years ago and that they were unable to assist. The last time I used this service, just over two years ago, there was an active helpline available.

Later, when trying to extend the booking, the system would not allow me to do so. Again, I reached out for support and received no response at all.

As a result of these issues - all of which were outside of my control - I returned the vehicle around 2 hours late. I was then charged late fees, despite making every effort to resolve the situation properly.

What makes this worse is that I was contacted the following day and told that the charges would be waived. However, I have still been charged £11, which is completely unacceptable.

I would like this to be addressed publicly. Please confirm that the £11 charge will be refunded and explain how this situation will be resolved.

At present, the lack of customer support, unreliable app, and inconsistent communication completely defeats the purpose of using this service. I would not rely on them again unless this is properly resolved.

DO NOT HIRE

DO NOT HIRE! many fault from the moment we got to Switzerland airport. Customer service was terrible. Falsely charged for petrol when we gave it back full. CarPlay did not function properly during our rental. Additional charges which were not explained at customer service. Back and forth emails with Krishalni M.(Customer Service Department) whom I asked numerous times to escalate my issue to the management. Emails were not properly answered and kept sending repetitive emails rather than dealing with the matter.
I will most certainly not recommend hiring from hertz, are having read that similar people have also been through the same experience is appalling.

Dear Hertz Customer Services,

Dear Hertz Customer Services,

I am writing to formally complain about the extremely poor level of service I have received from your Hertz Southgate Branch.

I have made multiple attempts to contact the branch by phone regarding an important issue with penalty charges, however, my calls have not been answered. On the occasions where I have tried to reach out, I have specifically attempted to speak with a staff member named IMRAN, but I have received no response or assistance.
I have also tried to visit the branch in person on several occasions, but it was closed despite being within the stated opening hours.

This lack of communication is unacceptable and has left me without any support in resolving a time-sensitive and financially impactful issue.

As a result of this, my situation has worsened unnecessarily, including increased penalty costs that could have been avoided with timely assistance.

I request that this matter is urgently investigated, including the responsiveness and conduct of the staff member mentioned above, and that appropriate action is taken.

I expect a prompt response and a fair resolution to both the service issue and the charges raised.

Faultless

I must admit I hadn’t read the reviews until after I’d booked (schoolboy error!) and I was dreading collecting the car. However, I needn’t have worried. The bus collected us at T5 Heathrow and took us to the Hertz Depot without issue and the clerk was quick to issue the paperwork and keys. There was one point where the clerk said the booked car wasn’t available and I thought oh here we go! But then a quick check on the radio found an alternative and we were off. We had an almost brand new and spotless car. The return and drop off was just as simple and quick and the shuttle back to T5 was waiting to drop us off. All in all a faultless experience.

Insurance scam writ large - should be BANNED

Like most people I took out the excess insurance for car hire via the RyanAir booking process. All well and good and underwritten by AXA - a reputable insurance company. That is until you go to pick up your car. If you don't have a credit card you are STUFFED! Debit Card? Forget it. No use, you have to pay some ridiculous fee of £20 a DAY!! Oh how they must enjoy milking that one! NEVER AGAIN!!

This company doesn't return your deposit

This is the worst company ever, the guys at the Gatwick ariport took 200 pounds as deposite and i returned the car and got a receipt saying they will deposit back my money, it has been 3 months and money has not been deposited. I have been emailing them, those shamless employees read my email and I show them the proof and do not respond. The most laziest employees, with absolute no decency and accountability. All of this stems from the management and whole company. Do not do business, you won't get back your money at all.
