First class dealership - family owned

From the moment we walked into the showroom Louise was approachable and helpful, enthusiastic but not pushy. She went through our requirements fully aware that we were reviewing other makes of vehicle. She was able to complete our tick list and answer all our questions, which helped us to decide the Peugeot 208 was right for us. All the members of the team that we met were friendly.

Louise at Crewe

Louise in the Crewe garage was excellent and very helpful in helping us buy a our new Peugeot 3008 and has continued to be very helpful since.

Do not go there

Shocking service. Returned vehicle reluctantly last Friday following the recall that has been issued and vehicle was returned to us with the fault light on! It was not on when we took it in and we would not have gone near the garage again apart from the recall.
Having had such terrible trouble and major issues with the 3008 we bought from them we now avoid and advise everyone to do the same. They have caused much stress and have cost us literally thousands. Appalling service.

amazing experience in the aftersales…

amazing experience in the aftersales department took my peugeot 408 in today for a service. We had a while you wait appointment showroom was lovely and clean and even had free refreshments.My car was ready in the agreed time and even had a wash and vac. Thank you gateway peugeot

Gateway Crewe Peugeot

Gateway Crewe Peugeot

Since buying my brand new Peugeot Partner van in Decemeber 2024.

I am now writing this negative review for the fact of this company attached. I was hit with an invoice of over £400 within the first 6 months and less than 6000 miles on the vehicle.

My van went into limp mode beginning of June time, I then rang Peugeot assist to book the van into a retailer for the diagnosis and rectification for this issue.

Peugeot assist did everything they could in regards to helping with courtesy vehicle, expect for the recovery as I had to deliver myself in the limp mode status as they could not recover it from the times promised.

Once the van was taken to the dealership [Gateway Peugeot Crewe], I was not helped by any means with regards to my issue. I was told that I had an investigation fee to pay and also a rectification fee to get me on the road again.
Reminder this van is 6 months old and under 6000 miles old, within the manufacturer warranty.

Fault was said to be carbon build up due to short journeys. This influenced the engine oil and therefore had to be changed to fix my limp mode issue.

Since this invoice was sent to me, I have then gone to outside sources, such as family members working for high end main dealerships. Also rang the Peugeot dealership in Chester to get their advice.

They declared that any diagnosis fee should not be chargeable within the manufacturer warranty. This was then challenged to Gateway Peugeot Crewe. Which then told me this was chargeable because its a small family run business and therfore within their policy!

Could I please ask for any outside advice to how I get this put in front of the correct people, to ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else, plus help me get reimbursed for the cost of this warrantable issue.

Absolutely awful

It is not often that I feel the need to publicly call out poor or disappointing service or work, but I feel that a recent experience that myself and my partner went through with Gateway Crewe could not be ignored or dismissed as ‘one of those things’ as it absolutely wasn’t.

My partner (who is disabled, has heart failure and suffers from severe anxiety) was looking for a replacement vehicle and asked me if we could call in at Gateway Crewe to look at a VW Up that they had for sale, which we subsequently did.

The Up looked nice and we arranged to go on a test drive with one of their sales representatives – during the test drive the sales rep was continually chatting to us which appeared to be just part of their ‘sales patter’ and at the time seemed completely normal.

When we got back to the garage we arranged for our nephew who lived locally to come to have look around the vehicle, a few minutes later he arrived whilst my partner and I looked around the car, the Sales Rep then said he would leave us to look and walked away taking the car keys with him meaning that the car could not be started whilst our nephew was there.

My partner and I went inside the showroom where we agreed to purchase the vehicle based on the visual inspection by our nephew and the information that had been provided by the garage.

On 24th December we went to collect the Up and when starting it noticed it unexpectedly load (we had not heard it properly before due to the Sales Rep talking), we knew that this particular model had an exhaust synthesiser fitted to make more noise so were not immediately concerned as we agreed we would simply have it turned off to make the sound more acceptable.

On Christmas day when collecting our nephew he commented on the exhaust sound and immediately pointed out that it was not standard and was far nosier than it should be, an inspection of the exhaust system confirmed that it had been fitted with a sports exhaust.

We contacted Gateway Crewe relating to this and shared our concerns only to be dismissed, deflected and basically ignored. After a number of emails and replies by the garage and their legal team it was made absolutely clear to us that they had no intention of providing information in relation to the vehicle that we had asked for and were not interested at all now that they had sold the car. We have been left with two options – either start legal action against the garage or to walk away from the situation (neither of which are an acceptable outcome or what you would expect to have to deal with when buying from a large company). I cannot relay how much this whole experience has affected my partner’s mental health and those of us who support him.

Buy from this dealership at your own peril!!!!!

Just Don't - Walk Away Whilst You Can

We bought a used car from Gateway Peugeot, and would not do so again. The salesman purposefully left out relevant information. I didn't notice at the time, but he sneakily prevented me from properly examining the car, which meant we only discovered significant issues after collecting the car.

They lied on their own condition report, and also lied by omission, to our faces. I couldn't be more disgusted with how brazen and wilful their deception was.

If you read this - be warned, and be sure you know where you can research The Consumer Rights Act - and get everything in writing, otherwise they will just lie about what they said.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I have had the most horrendous experience with gateway Peugeot, Crewe, Cheshire after purchasing a used VW Up GTi,

Gateway Peugeot withheld pertinent information regarding the vehicle’s aftermarket performance exhaust.

Since raising my concerns I believe that I have not been treated with any consideration by Gateway Peugeot inline with Consumer Duty Legislation 2023.

On 24/12/24 I completed the purchase and took delivery of a VW Up GTi after a test drive on 21/12/24. During the test drive, I was accompanied by my partner and the salesman, and we were talking throughout the test drive.

On 25/12/24 I collected our nephew who works at Bentley motors. He’d given the vehicle a visual inspection on 21/12/24, but didn’t come on the test drive and was prevented from starting the car as the salesman took the keys from him.

During the test drive I noticed that the exhaust sounded loud, but am aware that many small hot hatches have a synthesised sound that can be turned off.

Our nephew noted from the visual inspection that the car had an aftermarket sports air filter and bulbs fitted. This was in the presence of the salesman, who later confirmed in an email that ‘….the current exhaust is indeed a sports performance model……’. However, he did not disclose this at the time and makes me question why he took the keys and prevented our nephew from starting the engine.

The advertisement for the car did not say that the car had non standard performance parts fitted. I assumed that as I was buying a car from a franchised dealer, rather than a back street garage, that I was dealing with decent, honest people.

When I raised my concerns with the salesman he said ‘……the car was inspected by your family member, who also had the chance to review the vehicle thoroughly….’ Not the case as he was prevented from starting the engine. He then added ‘At the time, no concerns regarding the exhaust were raised’ That part is correct as he wasn’t given the opportunity to start the car.

Aaron Moulton, the sales manager at Gateway Peugeot contacted me. I emailed him to advise that as I have severe heart failure and suffer from extreme anxiety that I wanted him to deal with my partner. He emailed back saying that Gateway Peugeot were unable to deal with anyone else as their contract was with me. I believe by dismissing my request is in breach of consumer duty legislation 2023, in relation to how companies deal with their customers.

He said their legal representatives would contact me. I was due to go on holiday and this caused me incredible stress and anxiety.

I had to wait 14 days for a response, despite the fact Gateway Peugeot did not give me a timeframe and were aware of my increased stress and anxiety.

The reply was virtually a carbon copy of the initial email from the salesman that was incorrect as our nephew was prevented from starting the engine by the salesman.

I sent two emails to Gateway Peugeot asking them to confirm when they became aware that the vehicle had an aftermarket exhaust fitted. I have yet to receive a reply.

I complained to Peugeot UK Customer Care. They responded that as I’d not bought a used Peugeot, even though I’d bought it from a Peugeot dealership they would do nothing.

They did not respond to my email querying my treatment under the consumer duty legislation 2023. I’ve yet to receive a response. It’s no wonder that Gateway Peugeot are able to act in this way, as Peugeot UK will do nothing to help.

They, and their legal team keep saying that the car had a test drive, there were three of us in the car, talking and we were distracted.

This has caused me so much stress and anxiety that I have forwarded my concerns to Eurig Druce, Peugeot UK CEO, and Linda Jackson, Peugeot CEO.

I am now stuck with a car I would never have purchased had I been made aware that it had an aftermarket sports performance exhaust fitted. There is no paperwork to confirm that it has been fitted correctly for example. I will now have to pay for a completely new standard exhaust system to be fitted so I am confident that it has been done correctly.

I would like to take legal action against them, however the stress and anxiety they have already caused me means that I have to put my mental health first.

Whilst I would advise everyone to avoid Gateway Peugeot, I suggest if you’re buying a car from them which is not brand new, ask them to confirm in writing if they have been made aware, or discovered when they inspected the vehicle prior to putting it up for sale if it has had any modifications or non standard parts fitted, or any issues with the vehicle.

Please also read the consumer duty legislation 2023 about how companies like Gateway Peugeot should treat their customers, especially those who are considered vulnerable, such as myself. I do not believe they did follow this legislation.
