great people, very helpful and supportive throughout. the reason I have dropped a star is because I am unhappy about the use of nhs facilities for private medicine, and frankly the facilities are not of the level you expect and pay for in private medical facilities.

In reference to NHS facilities, I just want to reassure you that your procedure was fully private with your specialist consultant. Your clinic Derby Private Health offers privately booked procedures through the Royal Derby Hospital and although an NHS hospital, this is a privately contracted service. The gastric balloon is only able to be booked as a private procedure through a provider like ourselves. I am sorry however if you did not feel that their facilities matched your expectation
I want to put an honest review in here…
I want to put an honest review in here and am not interested in GBG responding by telling me I lost a few pounds and was very successful in my first few weeks or that they contacted me multiple times. You will notice that the vast majority of the positive reviews on here are from patients that are in the very early stages (and I mean days) of having had their balloon inserted and the negative ones are those that have lived through the full experience. In my opinion the only reason I lost weight initially is because I was so sick I couldn't eat. It's quite simple. Plus drinking lots of water as advised as with any diet you start, you will lose water weight first before any fat begins to burn. I have the 12 month balloon currently and I'm 5 months in. The warranty they offer ensures that no refunds are given. If you are intolerant within 30 - 90 days and have to have the balloon removed they will offer a partial refund. But when you feel you can't tolerate it and you contact them they put you on the phone to a soft spoken nurse who basically gives you lots of nonsense advice like drink pineapple juice and persevere. So once the 90 days is gone there is no longer an option to recoup any money. Additionally if the balloon ruptures which is an absolutely horrific experience the option is to have another one placed! Who in their right mind having gone through that would want to risk that experience again? And they know this. So they are fully set up to ensure that they take your money and keep it. For me, I have been unwell since day 1. Constantly sick with pain, sulphur burps, acid reflux, constipation and or diarrhea. It has been a horrific and awful experience and if I knew then what I know now I would have kept my +€6000 and used it for ANYTHING else. My next step now is to request early removal and put this nightmare behind me. I sincerely hope I won't be charged for the privilege.

Thank you Kirsten for your feedback, it is very disappointing to hear that you feel this way. We always want every patient to have a positive experience and I can see that our nurses have tried to help so I am really sorry this is the outcome for you. It is true that they will always encourage you to persevere because we want you to succeed with your balloon and in many instances the symptoms can be improved. But if despite everyone’s best efforts it is not possible to continue then we will of course recommend a removal. I can see that your removal has now been booked for you and I can reassure you that there won’t be any charge.
In terms of the 30 day early removal warranty, it is not the case that no refunds are made. Quite the opposite, we accept multiple claims every month from patients that clinically cannot continue with their balloon and require removal. All claims are refunded as per the terms and conditions, usually within a few days of the removal. Having looked at your file, I cannot see that you requested removal in the first 30 days under the warranty but if you would like to send through details of your request, we can absolutely review that for you.
Even when your balloon has been removed, we can still help you work towards your weight loss goals. You haven’t yet booked any of your specialist appointments with the dietitian or health coach or accessed any of the resources on the app so I encourage you to do this so we can advise and support you with your nutrition and exercise. Let the team know if you need any help accessing the app or booking the appointments.

I have had a great experience so far .From my initial enquiry to having the procedure done.i choose the gastric baloon insertion and have so far been very pleased but more importantly the constant support , information and access to a huge amount of printable recipes ,eat plans, exercise options and detailed information pre and post procedure .

Absolutely delighted with the service…
Absolutely delighted with the service from start to finish, i was given comprehensive advice on what was the best solution for me and at no time did i feel pressured. I was allowed time to make my decision based on me. I decided to go for the 6 month balloon and 4 months in ive lost 3 stone. The whole process has been very easy however dont expect it just to work on its own, you do need to cut down portions and exercise its not a magic wand. I am soo happy with the whole service and the balloon

Procedure went well
Procedure went well, staff at hospital lovely. The process of registering beforehand was chaotic with a ridiculous amount of emails and forms to fill in, phone calls chasing constantly when in work. Aftercare is not brilliant. If I had realised that you could go direct to the hospital I would have.

If you found the booking process difficult I apologise, we take the pre-procedure checks very seriously and will only allow a patient to proceed if we have all required documentation in place. I can see our clinical team had requested some medical documents from you and the team were calling as a reminder to submit the medical information and other documents that were outstanding. Had we not received them your procedure would have been cancelled and the team will do all they can to avoid this for you.
In terms of the aftercare, as you are only 13 days post-procedure, you have not yet taken advantage of the aftercare available. Your 3 day call was completed by our nurse as scheduled and there was no answer to your 2 week call attempt yesterday. I can see that you have viewed some recipes on the app and are now booked in for one of the live sessions which is great. You haven't yet booked your health coach or dietitian appointments however so I encourage you to do this so you can truly start to benefit from the aftercare on offer.
If you feel you need additional assistance or advice, please just reach out for support. We are here to help at every step of your journey.

Waste of money and my life
After countless conversations with Arabella who continued to tell me how wonderful it was and that the support would be so good with diet plans etc, I soon discovered that it was not. Everyone seems to say the same as me. First few days no eating just water and fluid. I have lost nothing and am counting the days until it is dispersed. Was offered to remove it early for another £1000. My whole mood and life has been hell. The feeling of hunger is constant. I expected some kind of nutrition plan but instead was told to eat smaller portions. Then after about an hour I am hungry again. Many suggestions have been made including trying to follow the slimfast liquid plan. Could have done that without this balloon. With regards to previous plans I have followed I have done so religiously and thought that this would give me everything. It has gave me nothing but an empty purse. PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS. DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. I was offered just one appointment with a dietitian which I had to fight for as I kept being told that I had to pay for the 30 minutes. I received a call this week with a dietitian but it is all a little too late. The support has not been good at all for the amount of money I have spent with you. I have cut the portion sizes as advised, drank lots of water at least 1.5 litres a day. This has been a miss selling of a product, clearly commission based. The best bit is that I was advised to double my intake of meds for a couple of weeks to see if that helped then when I asked for more as it was obvious that I was going to run out I was told I needed to pay for them. Is this yet another way of getting yet more money out of me. IT NEVER STOPS.

I'm sorry to hear that you don't feel your balloon experience has been positive so far. I can see that you have had lots of contacts with the nursing team, Health Coach and dietitians. It can be very challenging to make the changes to diet and exercise to get the best results from your balloon but I encourage you to follow the team's advice on reducing portion sizes and incorporating more protein and textured foods into your diet as this will increase the feeling of satisfaction after meals and reduce hunger.
We try and avoid providing prescriptive meal plans as they're unsustainable in normal everyday life. The objective of the balloon programme is to move away from following these restricted diets and to move towards changing eating and lifestyle habits that you will be able to maintain long term.
Try not to get disheartened if you haven't got the results you want yet, keep persevering. I will ask our Dietitian to reach out to you again to see if she can help you get back on track

Have only had my balloon in for 2 weeks…
Have only had my balloon in for 2 weeks but the company have been amazing. From when I first enquired I didn't feel any pressure to go ahead with it, they gave me so much information and answered all the questions I had. I knew exactly what to expect before during and after the procedure. They have answered me really fast and keep in contact to see how I'm doing and helping with a lot more than just the balloon. I have so many tools to use to help me reset my habits and change my life for good even when the balloon comes out. Cannot fault the company and if you're considering this route I definitely recommend the gastric balloon group

I had a very good experience with the company. The procedure was painless and fast, the consultant and staff were great at all times keeping me informed of what was happening.
The after care was great, I got calls from nurses to check up on progress and to answer any questions I have.
I am very pleased with everything so far.

It’s early days for me but my experience of The Balloon Group has been excellent. On the end of a phone when needs be and the Riverside Clinic in Brentford, where I had my Heliosphere inserted last week, was outstanding. I feel very positive and encouraged by the support I’ve had, so far.
