Expedia lacks ethics and gouges

We have a couple of issues. First issue is when we booked a flight to East Asia we used a travel agent and then found out that she used Expedia to book our flight when we fully expected the agent to use different resources. To our dismay when we learned that it was booked with Expedia we missed out on the points and we initially had no direct access to the information until we pressed our agent. To us this was disingenuous and we could have booked it ourselves on Expedia. This tells me about the ethics of Expedia's policies.

The other thing beware when booking airfares, especially between countries that are not of your residence!! I searched Expedia for two different flight segments. One between Bangkok and Phnom Pen. Expedia quoted $300 and when I used Booking.com we got the same flight forn$90. Also we booked another multi city flight where Expedia quoted $1300 per person and got it on Booking.com for $300 including some extras. DO NOT TRUST THE QUOTES ON EXPEDIA, shop different online agencies, even Flighthub.com are like Expedia. I found Booking.com more trust worthy so far, unless something happened to someone else reading it.

Research everything about your trip, don't believe everything you see on any booking site!

Consumer beware of the unaccountable…

Consumer beware of the unaccountable loophole with Expedia and purchase:
Awful, 100% Horrible customer and consumer experience. Beware of their horrible and non-reasonable policies to consumers! I’ve never posted a “negative rant” before but consumers need to be aware this company needs to be called out on their poor consumer/customer relations. I booked a car rental at the Vancouver airport and within 40mins was at their counter to pick up the car rental made through Expedia. Without proper information posted on my purchase, they required $1500 deposit or “no car”. This was not stated in their pricing and confirmation I received. I told them I cannot pay that amount and they said sorry, no car, and to call Expedia as they cannot further assist me. In the past 5 weeks I have been joggled between Expedia and Routes car rental with both taken no accountability which leaves the issue unaddressed. Even with escalated managerial assistance, they blame each other. The consumer then is left unfairly with the bill and no rights which seems to be a perfect loophole for both business to cash in on. I would strongly not recommend either Expedia or Routes car rental as a kind tip to a consumer from a consumer of these businesses. If

reserved troughs Expedia for Sonder by Marriott. Sonder filed for bankruptcy over the week end and canceled all reservations and stays, Expedia didn`t even noticed us until 3 days after everything was canceled by Sonder, No empathy, no solutions where offered by expedia. agent just canceled and refunded instead of trying to find a last minute solution.

Be warned they are crooks!!

I have got to warn people about this “company”. My wife booked our trip through them. Flights, cars and accommodations. 6 months in advance mind you. Thankfully. Now upon my wife showing me the accommodations and where it was and how nice it was we messaged them to confirm that we were getting the suite we wanted and that we weren’t sharing anything and would have our own bathroom etc etc. it was a very expensive place in Bowen island BC. Only to find out that not only were we not booked at this place to which we had already fully paid for through Expedia but they don’t even offer anything through them. And the place was neither available on those dates and we sure were not the ones that booked it. We, after considerable hassle got ahold of someone that not only acknowledged that the place was not booked that we fully paid for but they would not refund our full amount for a place that was unbookable. We literally, not figuratively got ripped off and it was 100 percent their fault as well if we didn’t call, we would have gotten to bc thinking we had accommodations and we wouldn’t have. Try getting something on the day of in July…….. worst experience ever. Book direct please. It’s not more hassle and it’s safer. I can’t believe these crooks are still in business. Let’s not even get to the part where we have booked the same trip for next year and it’s costing us half……. To stay longer…. DO NOT use this service. I am not a bot and this is not a scam review. I took time out of my day to write this because they still send me emails and I want to warn others.

Unnecessary fees charged by Toronto hotels

All Toronto hotels are charging above and beyond the legally acceptable (13 + 8.5)% taxes on hotel and hostel bookings. ALL OF THEM. And some have the audacity to tack on Marketing Fees and Cleaning Fees (?) Do they not pay their employees a livable wage? Do not become a victim... Make sure to dispute these unnecessary fees.

If I could I would put zero star!
The customer service with these clowns is horrible!!! I bottled my stay and it took me to the app instantly told me to sighn in and create account after I did that my trip was nowhere to be found and I had zero email sent to me with my confirmation. Then no way to speak with anyone! Don’t USE!!!!

Insurance connected with my Expedia booking

I booked through Expedia and chose the added insurance option for a hotel booking. I found a better price so canceled my booking and was told I couldn't cancel the insurance. I'm sure that was in the fine print somewhere but was not readily apparent on the booking site. It only states that you can cancel a day or two ahead of the arrival date. I then decided to rebook since I was already paying and was told that the insurance could not be transferred to the new booking. I phones the insurance company and was told they could not transfer the policy to the new booking. I find it interesting that they would rather lose my future business than be flexible with this situation. I am most disappointed with the Expedia site for their lack of transparency around this issue and lack of willingness to help. Thankfully it's nit a huge expenditure in this case but I am very disappointed with the lack of customer service from both Expedia and the insurance company. Not sa smart business model.

If I could give this company minus 100 stars I would. This company is a complete joke. I have a credit from a cancelled trip and they won't let me use it. I'm trying to book it 6 moths before it expires and they still can't figure it out. Avoid this crap app and company at all costs.

Booked a cruiship that clearly said WiFi and drink package included and they did not include it in my reservation!!!!!!!!!!! Called them and they tried to sell me just the drink package for like 1000$ they literally lost their mind please don’t book with them and go to the actual website these are bunch of thieves

Car Rental Scam

We booked a car rental, 2 months before our trip to Florence Italy. When we got to Autovia rental, they said they had no car for us. Contacted Expedia through their business chat and was told that if we could find another car at another agency through them and book it, they would cover the cost as a "goodwill gesture". Found a similar car at the same desk but different company - Italy Car Rent. But of course the last minute booking was 3x more than the first one. We got our car and returned it a week later. We have been fighting with Expedia ever since to get the promised refund. The email runaround we are getting and different stories from different representatives has been stressful. They call to "talk" about it, but have people who can't speak English, and still manage to give us the runaround. Very frustrating, and would never recommend Expedia to anyone!

Terrible Experience with Expedia Booking in Naples

I booked a hotel in Naples through Expedia back in March for our October stay, trusting that everything was confirmed and set. When we finally arrived at the hotel after a long day of travel, we were shocked to be told that the property was overbooked and had no rooms available for us — even though we had a valid Expedia confirmation and had paid months in advance.

Instead of enjoying our first night in Naples, we were left scrambling to find another hotel on our own.

I booked months in advance to avoid exactly this kind of stress, but Expedia clearly doesn’t ensure their bookings are honored. It was an awful experience, and I’ll never use Expedia again.

I rented a hotel room thru them

I rented a hotel room thru them. Not because I planned to but because that is the way the site directed the call. I get to the room and am so very saddened but tired and ready accept. Go to draw a bath for the little one and not prepared to bath him in it but a shower is ok. HA, water does not drain, its dirty. annoyed but resign to move on. Get woken in the night, odour from the heater ( enough that i just turned it off and managed as it was) Woken thru the night from neighbours coming in and talking loudly - elevator is awful. One slow elevator that the keys may or may not work in. One set of stairs to leave, but you cannot access from lobby or outside, so semi trapped. Good security I suppose. Except there are what appears to be drug deals going on outside - so I reach out to expedia. the best they can offer is a 30 voucher. Eventually they offer a 30 refund to my cc. I want all my money back and really my time for continued time spent to figure out a way to get them to do the right thing. So disappointed. the hotels hands are sort of tied as Expedia bids on these rooms, bumps the numbers and you are not dealing with them. You are working with an agent outside of it. I just want my money back please and i will do my best to not work with you again and suggest anyone reading this be aware that it is not the most honest way to get money. :'( I want to put the pictures on but not seeing a way to do it here. So.. look at the reveiw to sandman hotel, lethbridge on Mayor Magrath. I put the pictures on of a very dirty bathtub. Caveat Emptor

Worst experience ever!!

Worst experience ever!!! Was trying to book a hotel directly but it said that in order to book I had to call a different number. I called thinking it was the hotel but it wasn’t. They didn’t identify as Expedia and told me the hotel was fully booked and booked me in a hotel “close by” for double the money. When I called the hotel directly they booked for me after as I had to change dates they told me that they couldn’t change it because it was through a third party… specifically Expedia. Tried to get in touch with them for DAYS to change the reservation without any luck. After a week I received an email showing they had cancelled the entire booking and only refunded HALF of the money even though I contacted them two weeks before the dates needed. And guess what…. I finally found the correct number for the hotel I initially wanted… called them… tons of available rooms for the date I wanted so they LIED to me saying that they were fully booked and pushed me to a more expensive hotel and now won’t refund the amount. Absolute scam. BEWARE!!!!

NEVER BOOK AN ALL-INCLUSIVE WITH EXPEDIA

UPDATE: OCTOBER 2, 2024

Expedia contacted me and blamed the inadequacies of the package on Allegro Playacar and on me for not reading all the fine print at the bottom of the website pages. Oh, yes, there was a banal apology of sorts, very shallow and condescending.

My partner and I wanted to have a 3-week stay at the Allegro Playacar – All-inclusive Resort. We had stayed there before and were very pleased with the service and hotel amenities, as well as its proximity to Playa Del Carmen.

Online, we searched various companies, including Air Transit, Sunwing, and Air Canada, companies, with which we had much success in the past. However, we would have had to adjust our dates, just a bit, so we ended up going with the all-inclusive package offered by Expedia.ca
I had used Expedia before, but just for hotel or motel bookings, not any type of all-inclusive package from Expedia.

It was a huge mistake to use Expedia for an all-inclusive package. Expedia’s definition of “all-inclusive” is very different and not really an all-inclusive package, based on my experiences.

PAST ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGES

In the past, for over 25 years of my life, I have always booked all-inclusive packages with several companies who specialize in such travel arrangements. All-inclusive has always included round trip flights, checked baggage and carry-on, airplane seats, transfers to and from the airport to the hotel, and, of course, a hotel at which all food and all beverages were complimentary.

EXPEDIA’S “NOT” ALL INCLUSIVE PACKAGES AND “I DO NOT CARE” ATTITUDE

I naively assumed that it would be the same all-inclusive with Expedia. I could not have been more mistaken.

I had a rude awakening, and, for the past 2 days, I have been trying to fill in all the gaps in this “not-all-inclusive situation” which Expedia has foisted upon us.

First, when I finally got the itinerary from Expedia, I noticed that there was no mention of hotel transfers. I thought that transfers must be included, or Expedia is leaving us on the airport runway to fend for ourselves.

However, I thought I had better contact Expedia about transfers just to make sure.

After trying fifteen minutes to find a human "helper" on Expedia.ca, I was informed that there were no transfers included, that the package was non-refundable. In addition, checked luggage, seats, extra hotel charges were not included. Finally, Expedia would not help me with airport-hotel transfers.

I have had to spend about $1000 paying for what normally would be included in an "all-inclusive" package.

Although the Expedia human helper, Maria, intentionally or unintentionally, wrote a statement which helps justify my complaint.

"Maria (2025-09-28, 3:12:03 PM): I hear your frustration loud and clear—it’s absolutely understandable to feel let down when a key part of your travel experience, like airport transfers, isn’t handled as expected. When booking an all-inclusive package, seamless transportation is definitely something travellers count on, and it’s disappointing to face obstacles that leave you feeling unsupported."

The additional costs make the Expedia package the most expensive of all those we looked at.

I hope I have learned my lesson, but companies like Expedia want to continue to dupe travellers into buying their packages by giving them misleading information.

I WILL NOW BOOK ONLY WITH COMPANIES THAT SPECIALIZE IN WHAT ARE REAL ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGES.

MY RECOMMENDATION -- DO NOT BOOK AN ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGE WITH EXPEDIA. IT WILL GIVE YOU A LOT OF HEARTACHES AND END UP COSTING MORE THAN PACKAGES OFFERED BY COMPANIES WHICH SPECIALIZE IN ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGES.

unknowingly booked!

Booked hotel stay unknowingly through Expedia, when I called a number attached to an advertised price. The person claimed to be from the hotel but wasn't, and in fact was some travel agent from the UK...found this out by calling Expedia when I tried to cancel, who said it was done through another department of Expedia. So we called that number who in turn gave us a UK number and transferred us. They wouldn't do anything and told me to email them. After two hours the hotel finally agreed to fix the situation after, by then I was exhausted and couldn't continue business meetings I had, losing a lot of money.

Not a good experience

Please give yourself a favor. Do not book! I have booked a trip with no change fee and possible difference and the week after, I saw a trip 400$ cheaper. I told them I am not cancelling but I am just changing to the cheaper trip instead. I was told to pay 37.9$ more to change it as it is only applicable to new bookings. I have booked alot of trips here with expedia and they have gone downhill. However, I will still use this platform to compare prices but will avoid this one.
