Penrith Branch- Customer service was awful. I went to look at cars today and initially the man was very friendly… until he found out I had a low budget and deposit amount. Initially he was insistent on selling me a Nissan which I had no interest in buying as I know that particular model has history of having issues down the line and he seemed offended when I said as much. I mentioned being interested in looking at some other options but he told me rather rudely nothing else was in my budget and basically ended the conversation there by saying “but you’re welcome to look around” and walked away.
When I went back through the building to leave he didn’t bother to come and check in and see if I’d found anything he just looked at me and carried on talking to a colleague.
Stay away, proper scammers. Selling repaired and resprayed cars and hiding it from buyers !
Purchased car and mats were part of the deal. When car collected mats to be delivered - still waiting two months on. Messages and phone call but no update to any of these and still no mats.
It seems the company are happy to take the money but no after sales service.
We had booked a test drive and when we arrived after an hour’s drive to the showroom, we were told the car had been sold that morning. That is understandable but a call to let us know would have been basic customer service.
I just bought a car from David Hayton Kendal and I have to say James the sales person was so helpful and friendly. When I initially called the Kendal branch the car I was looking at was located in Penrith and without hesitation James confirmed that they could bring the car down to Kendal so it was not as far for us to travel as we were located in the Midlands. Later that same day James called to confirm the car had arrived already and plans were made to visit and test drive it. The deal was done then and there. James was also kind enough to suggest that the train station was just round the corner for when we needed to come back to collect the car and informed us of which stations we would need to swap at etc with us not being familiar to the area. I feel that James went above and beyond and that his manner and demeanour made me feel very comfortable and was not pushy in anyway whilst trying to sell me a car. I would definitely recommend.
Just purchased a car from David hayton in Kendal, the service from James the salesman was great, not pushy and very helpful.

I was pleasantly surprised by the attention and care given to me by BOTH PHILL PARKER AND CHRIS ( thy overall manager) they were not only very professional but also extremely helpful with the difficult decision as to what car to buy!! I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking to buy the correct car!! GOOD JOB WELL DONE!!
Great sales experience—easy and straightforward.
However, following the sale, an error resulted in my incurring an £80 fine. While I initially sought an amicable resolution, my interactions with the Group Operations Manager, Aimee Scaife, left me deeply dissatisfied. Her tone came across as accusatory and dismissive, and I felt my key points were not adequately addressed. She also declined my request to escalate the matter to higher management.
To resolve the issue, I escalated my complaint directly to Chris Hayton, Managing Director, via a written complaint dated 22 November 2024, which was signed for and delivered on 26 November 2024. Yet, as of today—18 business days later—I have received no acknowledgment or response.
This lack of communication from the company’s leadership feels unprofessional and, in my opinion, shows a disregard for customer concerns. It highlights deficiencies in their complaint-handling process and gives me the impression that their Head of Operations is not open to accountability.
