Really disappointing customer service…
Really disappointing customer service at the Currys Staples Corner Retail Park store.
We have been in the store for around 20 minutes and were essentially told to wait around because there was a queue, despite us knowing exactly which TV we wanted to purchase. A manager had already checked the stock for us and confirmed there were two available.
We were told to wait in the TV section, where I approached the only staff member I could see. He was assisting another customer who was still deciding which TV she wanted. I politely asked whether anybody else could serve us, explaining that we already knew exactly what we wanted and had even had the stock checked.
While waiting in the tv swction i asked a member of staff Azon if we could be assisted as the other customer he was with was still browsing, whereas we were ready to purchase. The staff member responded that she "wasn't browsing because she was going to buy something today." Browsing simply means looking through and considering different options — which is exactly what she was doing.
I completely understand serving customers in order and would never expect somebody else's service to be interrupted. However, from a sales and customer-service perspective, there is a clear difference between a customer who is still considering products and a customer who is ready to buy immediately and simply needs the item processed. We were then told, "Sorry, I'm the only staff member on the shop floor, so you'll just have to wait."
Nobody approached us from the moment we entered the store. We had to actively search for staff just to get assistance.
I'm only still here because I'm with my sister and she wants this particular TV. Had I been shopping for myself, Currys would have lost the sale very quickly. Understanding the difference between warm and hot customers is imperative in sales, and leaving customers who are ready to spend money standing around with no assistance is extremely poor service.
Ironically, the only person who provided genuinely good customer service was the security guard, who was helpful and approachable.
Very disappointing experience.
