Cwtch Cottage is in an excellent location very close to beach and local amenities. The cottage was plenty big enough for 4 adults and two large dogs. The garden is a reasonable size and fully enclosed. However, there is no working outside light which meant it was impossible to see what the dogs were doing when we let them out at night. A couple of garden chairs rather than just a picnic bench would have been nice. Parking was right outside but we were only able to use one of our allocated spaces. We had to park one car up the road. My first impression of the inside was it was a little grubby. There was dirt on the floor which looked like had come in on someone’s shoes but not swept up and the doors were a little sticky. The kitchen countertops and chopping board have seen better days. Freezer could have done with defrosting and the fridge was very discoloured inside. In terms of the facilities, there was a lack of proper cereal bowls, we could only find plastic ones like you might use for camping and the rest of the plates were more suited for a picnic. Maybe it’s just me but I found it off putting. All the beds were extremely uncomfortable. They’re obviously old and very, very lumpy. The bedrooms and the bathroom did look clean and there was decent enough bedding. There was a problem with a leak upstairs, there were damp patches and mould on the hall ceiling and water bubbles behind the wallpaper on the stairs. We reported this before we left. The cottage is advertised as dog friendly but I would say more dog tolerant. There was nothing on the listing relating to where dogs could go, but on arrival there was a notice to say they should be kept off the furniture. There was no stair gate to stop them going upstairs. If we had tried to lock them in the living room or kitchen at night they would have either been on the furniture or scratching at the door and barking. We have two older greyhounds who sleep wherever they choose at home so it would have been nice to know in advance that this was not allowed as we would probably have reconsidered the booking. The rubbish / recycling situation was a bit confusing and made us feel uncomfortable. There were written notices that the rubbish would be gone through and we would be fined if incorrectly recycled. Rather than face any unnecessary hassle we disposed of the rubbish ourselves before we left. Also strangely the lids of the wheely bins are screwed down so you can’t use them. Overall we had a nice week due to the location, but I would say the cottage is 3* rather than 4* and wasn’t really for us.
