We have a 16x80 Clayton home
We have a 16x80 Clayton home. Was built in 2011. 2015 was my purchase date. Sure wish I would have went with another brand. For starters, 2020 we had to replace the entire roof shingles. Due to the roof leaking in multiple places. Today we started instaling new floor throughout home. After tearing out old carpet and getting down to the subfloor. We realized there are 8 places where we are going to have to tear out the subfloor. All along the front wall of the home. And we have noticed the bottom of the front wall 2×4 framing is rotted in 4 places about 2 ft up. There is no over hang on our home. That's the way it was made. But obviously, when it was built, they didnt seal around the top corners of the walls where it meets the roof system, correctly. Plus, the roof system itself is 4 to 5 inches off from where the walls actually sit. Same thought most of the home. The ceiling has settled and broke away about 3 to 4 inches from each wall. All on the same sides of those walls. This is because the roof and ceiling have settled while the walls have not. Each wall was supposed to be aligned with the truss system in the roof. But obviously they failed that completely. It looks aweful. Had been considering trading in or selling our home and buying a new Double wide. Now, we are goning to have to wait until we get the rotted walls fixed and sheetrock in those places replace. Before we would even consider selling it to someone. Yeah, I know it's been 15 years. But shouldnt have rotted walls where water runs down around the corners of the roof and wall joining areas or around the windows if it would have been built right. Needless to say, I will never buy Clayton anything again. All the rot was unknown and hidden until we decided to replace carpet with new flooring. Hadn't done that, guess it would have eventually just collapsed in on us. Clayton Homes? You guys should want to build better homes than that!!!! How have you stayed in business all these years? Thats a quandary!
