We had booked a spa day however left after an hour due to the disgusting filth and lack of facilities. We were only told on arrival that the hot tubs and jacuzzi were not working due to “maintenance” issues however this seems to be a long standing issue and have clearly not worked in a long time. The women’s changing rooms were filthy, the lockers were broken, the lock on the toilet door was broken and the bins were overflowing. The floor tiles were black and slimy around the pool which we refused to get into due to the inside of it being coated in brown and green slime/algae. The sauna door was filthy as were the showers and we made a quick exit rather than risk picking up an infection. Demanded to speak to the manager who was apologetic but tried to tell us that the pool had been cleaned that morning and the issues must have arisen since then. AVOID like the plague, this place is heading for closure it’s tired, run down and dirty. We demanded a full refund.

The room was absolutely shocking. It was so small that it felt like we were staying in a shed. There were wires coming out of the walls, it was filthy, the taps were lifting away from the fittings, and there were gaps in the wooden beams filled with dirt and dust. Overall, the room was in desperate need of some TLC.

We also had a meal with our family of 10 the night before a wedding, and unfortunately, everyone’s meal was terrible. To make matters worse, half of the spa was closed, which we were not informed about before arriving.

For £159 a night, I honestly cannot understand how the hotel can justify charging this price when the overall condition is so poor. The whole hotel feels like it needs a serious amount of investment and maintenance.

The one positive was the staff, who were lovely, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Unfortunately, though, the condition of the hotel and the poor meal really let the experience down.

Absolutely ruined by birthday, booked months before but they waited until the week before to let me know there would be no hot tub or jacuzzi available, none caring customer service response, I'll never book with them again, really disappointed

I was bought an overnight spa stay here for my birthday, and it was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had.

The spa was absolutely disgusting. There was what looked like human waste down the outside of the toilet, lockers were broken, the poolside showers didn’t work, the pool itself was freezing, and the jacuzzi smelled like stagnant pond water. It felt unhygienic and completely neglected.

At the bar, the beer tasted strongly of line cleaner, which was really off-putting. To be fair, the bar staff handled this well, but it didn’t make up for the rest of the experience.

Our cabin room was just as bad—dirty, with a strong mouldy smell. The bathroom floor was coming up, the hand soap dispenser was empty, and the bed was incredibly uncomfortable. The mattress had completely collapsed onto the divan base, making it almost impossible to sleep.

It was so bad that we ended up leaving the same evening we arrived.

Reception didn’t seem particularly concerned when we raised these issues and simply said they would “pass it on” to the manager. We have still not been contacted.

Overall, this was a hugely disappointing and unacceptable experience, especially for what was meant to be a special birthday treat. I would strongly advise others to avoid.

I recently went for a spa day at this hotel and it was the WORST SPA I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! The changing rooms were small and cramped, the lockers didn't work properly, so much so, there was a sign on the wall saying, "If your locker doesn't work, ask reception." The toilet in the changing room was not clean, with a full to the brim sanitary bin with a panty liner stuck to the top. Once inside the spa, it was a similar very low standard of cleanliness and neglect. All the recliner seats were rusty, the windows and the doors to the sauna and steam room looked like they hadn't been cleaned for weeks! The sauna door was filthy, full of finger prints and grime. We were in a party of five and the only space to arrange our seats together was next to a defunct indoor hot tub, which had been partially cordoned off. However, we sat next to the bit that wasn't hidden from view and could see all the mould in the tub and smell the awful smell! Lunch was included with the spa day, but it wasn't a full lunch, it was actually £10 off the rather overpriced menu. For £10 you could get a sandwich, and that's it, whereas others spa days I've done include a full lunch with sides and desert in the cost of the day. I had a sandwich and ordered extra chunky chips, which were not very warm. So that was another disappointment. I then went to the toilet at the restaurant and when I washed my hands, one soap dispenser was empty, another just didn't work. On the way back to the spa from lunch, I put my hand on a rail which was so dilapidated that the pole fell away from the end of the rail as soon as I touched it. It was like being a Fawlty Towers, but with added dirt and uncleanliness!!! When I gave my feedback about all the above to the staff on reception, they offered me a free glass of Prosecco. When declined and I told them I was driving later, they offered me a J20 instead! I had to laugh, after such an awful experience, they thought a J20 would make it all better!!! We saw the manager on the way out and gave him the same feedback. He took my sister's details, as she had made the booking, and told her he'd ring in two days to re-book us for a few weeks time when all these problems would be sorted. Two days later, and guess what, no call. It was my birthday as well! I love going to spas and have been to many, and this is by far the worst I've ever been to. Didn't make for a very happy birthday either.

I booked a last minute night away in one of the woodland lodges with my husband. When we arrived we were told we had been given a ‘complimentary upgrade’ to one of the executive lodges. The lodge in question was disgusting. It had clearly not been cleaned prior to our stay, it smelt of stale cigarette smoke, hadn’t been hoovered, dust all in the bathroom, black mould in the shower, very questionable brown/red stain on the lamp next to the bed, strings from a banner left hanging on the curtain pole, bathroom sink did not drain, hairdryer did not work, the majority of the lockers in the spa did not work, food was bang average. Would have had a better experience in a Travelodge. I have emailed the hotel multiple times and keep being told that somebody will ‘be in touch’ but 2 weeks later I’ve heard nothing. Extremely disappointed and appalled with this hotel. Definitely would not recommend.

A friend and i attended your spa today. We left after half an hour due to the poor spa facilities.
On arrival, there was no robes.
The lockers didnt work and the receptionist was fully aware but didnt offer a solution.
'Hot showers' were cold.
Jacuzzi was closed.
One hot tub was open, the other 3 consisted of one which was half full and not up to temp and mucky.
Ice on the floors outside, major slip hazard.
Leaking roof! Not pleasant!
Overbooked for the facilities available! So we didnt even get in the one hot tub available. The pool was an uncomfortable temp too.

Real shame as we have been so many times before and never known it so run down.

Terrible stay cabin was dingey bathroom tiny and toilet u had no room to sit on with sink 6inch in front the food was terrible and overpriced and while having a quiet meal a mob of ladies wearing dressing gowns was seated next to us at 8 in the evening with bare feet up on seating picking feet and talking about corns and dry feet and being very loud! What a joke!! Why let people in restaurant at that time with dressing gowns and damp towels thrown on seat!! Trying to charge 30 pounds for steak and chips and 9pounds for a glass of wine!! Trying to have a quiet birthday meal!!?? Put me off my food! I was asked for my room number when ordering so thought it was added to my room but when I had a complaint and sent some food back was told to pay now, when I said why did u ask for my room number then I was told incase I run off!!! How rude!! Made reception aware who didn't seem bothered and any reply to feedback they just say I'll pass it on to relevant team!!! Let me tell u this has not worked nor does it do anything for the people that had a bad stay!! Poor management and customer service!!! Look at all the negative reviews u have!!! The amount of business u loose became people look at reviews first or even if they give u a try are unhappy and don't return! Your managers etc want to be ashamed of themselves and can't even have common sense!!

Restaurant - tables left with dirty crockery. We had to clear ourselves so we could be seated

Waited over an hour after our main course for someone to clear our plates and take our dessert order - i had to go and find a member off staff

I cleared the table again, desserts arrived but no drinks. Ordered again

After half an hour we left and met a member of staff arriving with the drinks. Said they had gone into a zoom meeting anf they were short staffed!

I complained and chased up after a week. Still no reply.

This used to be good, but has gone downhill so we wont be giving them our fortnightly visits. AVOID, if its not bothered about dirty tables, what are the kitchens like.

Booked 4 weeks ago to go to this hotel restaurant arrived there on Sunday for a meal it was a shambles we ordered our food and had to wait nearly 2 hours for it to arrive at our table when it did come for some reason my starter came and my wife’s desert arrived at same time as we hadn’t even had our main meal the assistant manager Apologise and said he was very sorry and took my wife’s desert away we then had to wait for her soup to come as a starter so we didn’t eat together then we had to wait another 1 hour for our main course in the mean time other people were complaining about were there food were and even some of the customers had been waiting for at least 2 hours some people walked out this day the restaurant lost 8 booking as they couldn’t wait any longer eventually our food came to our table to find out that the food was raw and chicken had not been cooked properly it was all pink inside it was a disgrace the assistant manager apologised once again and asked us if we would like a fresh new cooked meal we declined as we new how long this would take the head cook came out to the restaurant and apologised to us all and said that there system was playing up and people were getting wrong meals and also getting deserts instead of getting there main meals this was a shambles we ordered from start to finish so basically we got at the restaurant at 15.15 and did not get out till 17.30 I would not recommend anyone visiting this restaurant as there is a lack of staff and it is also a long wait for meals aswell as drinks there is no organisation at all they take your order and basically forget which table they have been to so you have to keep ( TRYIING ) to grab a member of staff to ask were you drinks are and also you do your forever chasing them . This is a true fact ; (but if you want to go you will find out yourselfs ) good luck everyone

What a beautiful location! I stayed in a lodge and it was so cosy and hidden within the woodlands, big shout out to Millie and Ann-mariee who helped and supported me a lot to make sure I was satisfied and happy with my stay, they was both super welcoming brilliant energy and did a very good job and I will definitely be returning again👌🏽thank you.

Came for Sunday lunch on Sunday 18/8 and the food was very good! The young girl, Tia, who was in charge of the tables and food was an absolute gem. Such a nice pleasant and very helpful young lady who made our visit so much better. It’s great service like this that makes you want to come back again. Thank you for your first class service and the great sense of humour you had.

I went on two business trips in November and work was being done to cheer the place up. I am sure it was wonderful when it was newer but yes it’s a bit tired. There are rooms in the hotel which are compact and larger spaces in the detached cabins. They had a lovely open fire in the bar. Breakfast was great. The staff are wonderful and appear very happy which makes it up to 4 for me. Will I go again - Yes when I’m back up in Leeds again and especially if it’s summer as it sits in a beautiful setting.

I booked a spa treatment at chevin hotel spa. The changing room was filthy moldy shower curtain peeling paint full bins. Would have walked away if I hadn’t already paid. Will not return disgusting.

So despite my ratings I really enjoyed my stay this was solely based on the company and the fact that myself and husband were in dire need of a night away to relax so we made it what it was. That said I cannot fault a single staff member we encountered or staff that served us, this goes for all areas (bar, spa, restaurant and reception). However I would like to add some feedback I feel is very necessary. The whole place just seems run down and outdated and in dire need of maintenance and refurbishment this was apparent in ever single part of the complex. We stayed in lodge 70 (executive lodge) it was grubby, there was unknown liquid had been spilt down the bathroom door, there was grime around the bath the tiles and mirror were not clean, decking not swear, watermarks on furniture from drinks and the sofa sunk when you sat in it so it was so uncomfortable. The bed was the worst bed I've ever paid to sleep in and I could feel every spring. I appreciate that this is a wooded/swampy area and that requires extra rodent deterrent but the one in our lodge flashed lighting the whole cabin up all through the night, we ended up opening the wardrobe door to block it and to try and limit it, which worked a little. There was clear expanding foam used to fill a gap to the outside but this had not been finished to a high standard certainly not executive standard. The other issues we have a much more of a suggestion, whilst we understood the need to maximise your revenue streams by proving events such as wedding you also need to remember that you also spa guests, the 2 fully conflict not in a good day. Could some nice willow screening not be grown around the spa to make a screen between that and the restaurant/bar/ wedding areas. I felt extremely self conscious logging around in a bright red swimming costume by the outdoor hot tub whilst a few metres away you have a wedding and uts guests dressed in the finest and taking pictures. Also using the bar and restaurant whilst I was dressed for this lots of people weren't and they are literally and physically rubbing shoulders (people in bikinis and bathrobes and groomsmen and mother of brides in their finest). The wedding also conflicts at evening, so I've come to a Spa to relax but even though we were at Lodge 70 (2nd furthest away from main building) as I was trying to relax and sleep all I could hear was the thud thud thud of the wedding, not relaxing at all. Going back to the grounds,I realise its a wood/swamp but could some thought be put into the paths, could they be power washed or raised as it it so muddy between the lodge and main buildings. We witnessed the bride having to detour around flooded paths. There is do much mud on the paths. All in all I think in its day this place would have been amazing but its all well worn out and tired. It needs maintenance and repairs and refurbishment. At very least it needs a really good clean, the standard is just not there. I was very disappointed with the standard of accommodation especially as I'd paid for the higher end accommodation. We had no issues with food,staff or service. Please consider the guest experience for both events such as weddings and guest there for spa or other, they currently conflict and this seems a real shame that not enough thought has been put in to manage it well or think about it could work in harmony
