Outstanding visit
We enjoyed dinner, bed and breakfast at the Celtic Manor. From start to finish, we had an awesome stay.
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 The three course dinner at the Olive Tree restaurant was outstanding. It's a lovely venue. The service was attentive and the food delicious.
😋 Breakfast was full of choice and plentiful.
🏊 The forums health centre had plenty to offer with saunas, steam rooms, a jacuzzi and plenty of space for swimming.
🤩 The room was enormous and had stunning views from the balcony.
👍A thoroughly enjoyable stay.
I would NEVER ever stay here again
I would NEVER ever stay here again & I’d strongly urge you to reconsider booking here. The Celtic manor is the ultimate catfish. We booked the ‘Last Minute Summer Stay’ offer on their website which stipulates a complimentary room upgrade to a superior queen with balcony (this was NOT just ‘a possibility’ it was an actual part of the deal). They put us in a bog standard twin room & refused to move us due to not having any queen rooms left. They had so many other room types available but just didn’t want to resolve their mistake, which is completely unacceptable. The staff at management level are among the most appalling I have ever experienced. It felt like a scam.
Another thing to note: Breakfast runs from 6:30 until 10:30 on Saturdays & by 9:50 they’d basically run out. So many guests complaining. Do not waste your money here, staff couldn’t do any less for you
Staff were all pleasant and welcoming
Staff were all pleasant and welcoming
Efficient
Happy to chat
Food quality extremely good
The booking confirmation inaccurate in that it included a choice from the menus which are not available
The online menus different from the on site menus
Whilst the bed was comfortable, the accommodation in total was a little disappointing
Toilet seat missing a rubber leg, shower tap leaking
The 'balcony' only just allowed the two seats and the table to be opened - The whole of the outside of the balcony area in desperate need of proper cleaning and repair. Thick cobwebs on the seats from a number of seasons, the rail really needing rubbing down and re staining with the corners being corroded
Staff and food needed better score than 3 stars but the whole structure dragged it down
Overall OK just the detail missing
Had a signature room was which lovely.
Noticed one of the bathrooms had no soap, no biggie we brought our own. Then the coffee machine didn't work.
On day 1 we had a pair of wine glasses and tumblers, after first night housekeeping came in and then only gave us one of each. Called room service multiple times, when we did get through after waiting for 40 minutes decided to just get them ourselves.
Steak on six, lovely food had the trio and at £80 per head I felt it was little poor on the servings, not by much but would have like a little more.
Its a nice place but as others have said, a little tired now and seems to be understaffed in the bars and restaurants.
On checking out mentioned I had some minor issues, reception staff didn't really care.
Camilla in reservations is great
Camilla in reservations is an absolute diamond.
Has been really helpful and patient assisting me with making bookings for my wife.
EXCELLENT
EXCELLENT! I don’t understand why there are so many bad reviews. This is my 3rd time to Celtic and I absolutely love it. The service is amazing, food is excellent and the spa is my absolute favourite place. During my 3 times I have visited, the consistency has remained the same. I have worked in hotels all of my life and this certainly doesn’t need a refurb compared to most! Thank you so much Celtic, I will be back soon! 😊
Just Don't
Booked a “five-star sanctuary of serenity and tranquillity” spa day at Celtic Manor Resort and accidentally experienced what can only be described as a very expensive leisure centre… but in robes.
For the bargain price of £124 - not extortionate but still an outlay... (oh and plus a surprise parking charge because apparently relaxation now comes with ANPR), we "enjoyed":
✨ A welcome smoothie so exclusive nobody actually offered it to us
✨ A luxury adult spa experience featuring screaming babies and children in armbands doing jacuzzi laps (fine print doesn't tell you the spa pool is actually shared with the entirety of the hotel guest... yay!)
✨ Sunbed reservation tactics straight out of a 2/3-star all-inclusive in Benidorm - You've all seen the videos!
✨ A broken jacuzzi
✨ Overflowing bins, abandoned damp towel mountains, and enough discarded robes scattered around to make it look less like a luxury spa and more like the aftermath of a PE trip nobody supervised properly.
✨ Lunch served with the kind of aesthetic and presentation you’d expect from a Year 9 school canteen - if the school budget had also been used to renovate a prison kitchen.
✨ Chicken so cold, saggy and soggy it may still qualify as a health & safety investigation
✨ Staff chasing a system migration harder than we chased the drinks we ordered (which never arrived)
The changing rooms smelled like the aftermath of a GCSE PE lesson, the showers were blocked, and by 2:30pm we’d escaped early to continue our “spa day” literally anywhere else.
To be fair, the massage was good and one lovely staff member gave us a complimentary prosecco, which was genuinely the highlight of the experience and briefly helped us forget we were sitting in robes next to hotel guests dressed for Sunday lunch wondering where we’d wandered in from.
After raising all of this, the resolution offered was essentially:
“Please come back for another spa day”... No Thanks!
Respectfully, I would rather deep-condition my hair in a Travelodge kettle steam than repeat that experience again.
Award-winning spa? If the award was for “Most Creative Interpretation of Tranquillity,” then yes - absolutely, trophy’s probably already in the reception next to a flickering candle and a broken diffuser. Go for it.

Poor service
Poor service, understaffed. You wait
30 mins for a drink and around two hours for room service. Don’t visit. Waste of money.
Afternoon tea was wonderful BUT
Afternoon tea was wonderful BUT no mention you have to pay for a bottle of sparkling water!offered sparkling or still but charged £6.05 for the 750ml sparkling, should have said to us it incurred a charge,

Got racialy and threathened by a group of drunk guests, then me and girlfriend got moved for our saftey, well thats what Grace head manager said. She seemed it was ok and by moving us problem solved. if i knew rascism is excepted i would of left.spent almost 400 to be verbally abused
Alex Radu selling him self as a the…
Alex Radu selling him self as a the manager shocking myself and my work colleagues traveled all day only to have to have Mr Radu tell us his restaurant was full with six people in it , we have had to get in my car and drive to Newport for dinner after driving all day , we expected better from a brand like Celtic manor Alex needs some training on how to treat paying customers
Disappointing and not the place it used to be
I recently stayed one night at Celtic Manor Resort and came away very disappointed, especially given the premium prices charged across the resort.
The room itself was comfortable enough, but very dated and certainly not what you’d expect for the cost. What really set the tone was the £25 per night car parking charge – extortionate when you’re already paying to stay at the hotel. There’s no signage or information about any free or cheaper parking alternatives either, which feels deliberately misleading.
Food was okay, but again massively overpriced. The Steak on Six restaurant only offered an £80 set menu, with no option to order just one course, which is completely unreasonable. Drink prices were just as bad – cocktails starting from £18 is excessive by any standard.
Most of the staff we encountered seemed uninterested and grumpy, which didn’t help the overall atmosphere. We went to the Johnny Walker Bar for drinks and while the barman himself was genuinely lovely, the bar had to close on a Saturday evening because he was the only staff member and was needed upstairs in the restaurant. Completely unacceptable for a resort of this size. The concierge driver was friendly, but that was one of the few positives.
The spa facilities were another major let-down. They are very dated, with half the jets in the main communal hot tub not working, and the pool water was noticeably cold. We were unable to book any swimming or spa slot for Saturday and had to wait until Sunday, despite the website showing it was fully booked when it clearly wasn’t. Overall, the spa feels tired and in serious need of investment.
In summary, the resort now feels basic, outdated, and focused on squeezing as much money as possible out of guests, rather than delivering a quality experience. For the prices charged, this stay fell well below expectations, and I wouldn’t return.
Charged twice and no customer care
10 days after checking out, the hotel owes me almost £500. We were booked at The Manor House which was closed on arrival with no prior notification. Whole stay was just a shambles...overcharged on check in. Had a 'security' charge of £100 per room per night so £400 plus room charges held on my card. Dining options (or lack off) just appalling from a '5 star' hotel. Had pending charges of almost £2k for almost a week and have paid twice as the booking they moved, has been charged as a no show. So 10 days after checking out, they still owe me nearly £500 which I'm told I should get back in 5 working days. Impossible to speak to anyone with any authority or customer care skills. I will incur interest charges as a result of their incompetence.
Our first impressions were excellent
Our first impressions were excellent. From the moment we pulled up at the door, the concierge took our luggage, and the check in process was warm, efficient, and genuinely welcoming with staff we encountered there being polite, friendly, and professional.
The rooms were lovely—spotlessly clean with a good selection of tea and coffee. They are perhaps beginning to look a little tired, but certainly nothing that detracted from our stay.
The staff were a real credit to the hotel. Mention goes to Ashley (?) in the bar on the 6th floor, as well as the team in the Steak on Six restaurant, all of whom provided outstanding service.
I would have given it a five star review but unfortunately we did have some negatives The food in Steak on Six was OK, but it didn’t suit everyone in our party. There were a few issues with taste preferences and portion sizes, and overall, it felt overpriced for the experience. The fixed three course choice menu also isn’t something that would encourage us to return, as it limits flexibility and didn’t justify the cost.
The online booking system was also not the greatest. While the initial booking process was straightforward, the follow up emails were inconsistent. I had booked two rooms but unfortunately only ever received confirmation, reminder and check in/out emails for one room and not always addressed to me as the lead guest.
The real issue involved the spa. We received a call saying we had missed our appointment, which we believed was booked for 4:00pm. The spa insisted it was for 3:30pm, but we had never received any electronic confirmation to verify the time. We were unable to check bookings for the Spa through the online account. The real disappointment was the attitude of the staff member who called; although we appreciated being notified, she was unnecessarily rude when we tried to explain the misunderstanding. Reception informed us that the spa is run by a separate company with systems not linked to the hotel, and it certainly felt as though the customer service training did not match the high standard of the main hotel staff.
Looks good but the small details are missing
Had an overnight here as a gift from my partner for my 50th. I was so looking forward to it. Had popped in for a drink a while back and the grandness of the place made us want to come and stay and why not for a special birthday.
Loved the porter service at the door so we did not have to carry our luggage to our room.
Room it self was a signature room. On first glance room and bathroom looked lovely, decor subtle. Then you noticed the lack of attention. Coffee machine, broken and a table light not working. In the bathroom there was mold on the ceiling in the shower. Then on the grouting around the toilet there was mold and made it look dirty.
Dinner in the olive tree. Cost £40 per head buffet. The starters, salad great choice and great sizes however the roast carvery-pork very chewy, tough Yorkshire pudding and the roast potatoes missed their crispiness. Desserts - ice cream watery and sticky toffee pudding was super dry.
Spa- the swimming pool area very clean could do with more loungers. Pool temperature perfect jacuzzi lovely.
Bars - great choice of drinks. Lots of local Welsh offerings. However wait time for drinks whether you joined the queue or not coukd be as long as 20 minutes, bar by olive tree just one person working it?
2 working the actual bar at Merlin’s, and about 3 waiting tables. Abbie in Merlin’s is a credit to you all. Girl did not stop amazing. This is an area I think you really need to do better.
This is a 5 star resort and I am blessed to say I have stayed in some 5 star and outstanding hotels and this just misses it with slow service, lack of attention to details in rooms. 5 star hotels are hot on ensuring that service wows their customers and the detail in rooms are all working and no mold. Also do you want to be heading into your room and still see the old occupants room service still left out side.
Celtic manor needs to get the attention to detail, if you are going to do a buffet for £40 please check the grove in Hertfordshire out, that is a £40 buffet
Good nights sleep, excellent musician, Abbie is a star. It’s the little bits that really let you down.
in desperate need of maintenance and renovation
Very expensive resort that is in desperate need of maintenance and renovation. The carpets are worn and threadbare, taps in the room are broken, and the dustbins are damaged. Overall cleanliness and upkeep are far below the standard one would expect for the price.
Equally disappointing was the attitude of some staff members, who came across as arrogant rather than professional or service-oriented.
The final insult was being served cognac in a cheap juice glass, which perfectly summed up the lack of attention to detail and disregard for basic hospitality standards.
Never to return
Had to pay for car parking in their own grounds. Long difficult walk for us to reception. Very long queue at reception. Lifts not fit for purpose, kept skipping the loors and going up and down. Took almost 20 mins to get 3 floors up. Room we were given had adjoining door. Extremely noisy next door. Changed room. Midnight ball was trying to cater for too many people for the quality and quantity of staff they had available. Food was second rate and tasted bland and burnt. Breakfast ,long queue, and lack of food left with an hour of service left. Will never go to this place again.!!!!!
What a disappointment
What a disappointment
The reception area looked very pretty with all the Christmas decorations, and on arrival the service was excellent. The concierge was welcoming, took our bags, and delivered them to our room. The public areas of the hotel also looked well maintained.
Unfortunately, that was where the positives ended.
Breakfast was extremely disappointing due to very long queues. The lift situation was equally frustrating — the lifts stop on every floor, meaning you end up going up and down repeatedly. Only two out of the three lifts were working, which is unacceptable given the number of guests staying in the hotel.
The rooms are dated and in need of refurbishment. We also experienced a heating problem in our room, it never warmed up properly — the temperature control would increase slightly but would not go above 19 degrees, making it uncomfortable. We reported to reception. While staff attempted to resolve the issue, they were unable to fix it and we were eventually required to change rooms, which was very frustrating and inconvenient. The hotel was also very cold overall.
There was no complimentary water in the room, which is not acceptable for a hotel at this price point. On the first night, reception provided bottles of water free of charge and advised us to return if we needed more. However, the following evening we were told there was no water available and were directed to Merlin’s Bar, where we had to purchase two bottles of water for £11. Unfortunately, the staff behind the bar were not very pleasant and came across as abrupt, which only added to the poor experience.
Considering the amount of money charged for this stay, it was definitely not worth it. Sadly, a Premier Inn offers far better value — working heating and free water in the room, replaced daily.
Overall, this hotel did not meet expectations and we would not return.
Premier inn would have been better!
Almost £400 for a room that was no more luxurious than a travel lodge. The coffee machine was broken and leaky, there was a long twig sewn IN my actual pillow that stabbed me in the head, a hole in the robe provided and then you even have to pay £20 parking even if you have a room. The breakfast was ok but cold, and the coffee wasn’t great.
Will never stay again. Might have well stayed in a premier inn.
