Disappointing experience – poor communication and incorrect licensing

I had a very disappointing experience with Broadberry Data Systems.

I requested a clear quote for Microsoft SQL Server with Device CALs and Windows Server Standard. Instead, I was supplied with a quote based on core licensing that I did not ask for, with no clear explanation at the time of sale. This caused unnecessary confusion and delay.

When I queried why the quote did not match my request, I was told that Microsoft has “weird rules” and that this was the “basic entry” option. This did not address the original issue and did not justify selling a product that was not requested.

Despite clearly requesting either:

a refund, or
a correction to the correct licensing model,

Broadberry have failed to respond at all. No resolution, no acknowledgement, and no professional follow-up.

For a company selling business-critical infrastructure and software licensing, this level of communication and accountability is unacceptable. Licensing accuracy matters, and so does customer service — Broadberry delivered neither in this case.

I would strongly advise others to double-check all licensing details and be cautious if issues arise, as resolving them may prove difficult.

Absolutely Horrible Experience – Stay Away!

Dealing with this company was a nightmare, especially with the salesman Will Shaw, who is incredibly arrogant and dishonest. Doing business with him feels like responding to a scam email. Once they receive your payment, they ignore you for weeks, only to respond later with excuses like “I can’t reply all the time.”

They sell products they don’t have and deliberately hide information about delivery issues. Promises mean nothing to them – they simply don’t deliver what they guarantee.

Do yourself a favor and buy from their competitors!

Make sure you compare this party's quote with quotes from their competitors, as they have no shame in overcharging you handsomely.
Don't expect these people to take you seriously if you don't buy more than a dozen servers at a time.

I just bought a new computer from Broadberry at a comparable price to the discount outlets. I customized all the major design criteria (I couldn't find exactly what I wanted anywhere else) and they shipped exactly what I ordered. I got it (from England) much sooner than promised or expected, about as quickly as a domestic (US) shipper, and at no extra shipping charge.

The machine arrived with a European-voltage power supply; Broadberry sent me a no-cost replacement which I got in two business days. They even offered to pay for shipping the computer back to them and installing the power supply themselves, which would have cost them a few shiny pennies (and taken me longer to repack the machine than to switch out the power supply).

Amazingly, at no point did I ever have to listen to a machine, chat a bot, search for contact info, wade through a "customer service" menu, argue with English-mangling tier-1 screeners, get email from a "do not reply" address, or be put on hold. Every contact I made was answered by the morning of the next business day, or sooner, *by a person* - the same one each time, and speaking English!

Any computer I buy from now on will be from Broadberry. Two things to do if you order from North America:

1. Make sure they know you need a 120V power supply.

2. Warn your bank. Some banks don't like international charges. One bank froze my credit card because of that; it took me longer to get the card unfrozen than all the time I spent on this order put together (including swapping the power supply and setting up the system twice for testing). Another bank didn't blink, but slapped an international payment surcharge on the transaction - it was a small amount, but I was not forewarned.
