Stellar booking and planning - counting down the days!
We are one year away from actually taking the trip we've booked, and are still working on planning our adventures through Wilderness Safaris, but so far the booking and planning process has been excellent. Our contact, Kelly Mattin, is exceptional: endlessly cheerful, full of very helpful knowledge about the camps and experiences, and always wanting to assist us in getting the safari itinerary that fits our parameters - and to help me create special birthday experiences for my husband's 50th. A truly spectacular holiday with Wilderness.
Our safari holiday with Wilderness Safaris – eleven days at four camps – was spectacular. On the ground, we can’t imagine a finer experience. All front-line staff were delightful, the accommodations stunning, the support staff amazingly efficient and helpful, and the dining exceptional. Our wonderful and informative discussions with all personnel were great pleasures.
One spends eight hours a day or more with guides on safari, so our highest praise goes toward our marvelous guides who essentially revealed to us the magic of Africa with knowledge and wisdom. What amazing educational backgrounds, training and experience, and interpersonal skills! They were delightful.
An important aspect of our journey that we did not consider until after the trip was the planning and real-time support we received: money matters; insurance; flight modifications; helping us make tight connections in unnavigable airports; and many other issues. The Wilderness planning and operations team was invaluable.
In sum, we loved it! From the top down, Wilderness Safaris appears to be an excellent company, very well managed at all levels, with immaculate attention to its staff and great caring and assistance for the local populations. In a recap discussion with a good friend who recommended Wilderness to us - based on his career in travel writing and editing and his experience with many safari companies - he said: “I learned that I could always trust Wilderness Safaris to deliver the real safari experience, unlike others which left you wondering why you had bothered to go.” We had a wonderful time; contact them and see for yourself.

Outstanding trip of a lifetime
Our family of 4 went on a 4 day safari with Wilderness in July in Zimbabwe. We have the most amazing experience. Communication and customer service was unmatched and everyone was so friendly and helpful and accommodating. Our guide, Chamu, was especially great. He truly made the trip quite memorable. It exceeded our expectations, and we would highly recommend.

Truly magical Tanzanian adventure
Our Tanzania adventure was truly magical. Emma, at Wilderness, planned everything perfectly and had us well prepared with packing list etc. We loved the variation in camps and parks. We also loved the authentic nature of the camps. The guides and camp staff were wonderful. The wildlife spectacular. Can’t wait to work with Wilderness again on a Safari adventure!

An African Adventure
Wilderness Safaris have arranged an adventure to Zimbabwe and Zambia for me, my daughter and grandson. Kelly explained in detail all the exciting children specific activities to make this an unforgettable experience for him. Nothing was too much trouble in the planning of our holiday. Anneli Rudiger from Wilderness was so very helpful through the planning process. Her intimate knowledge of Namibia having grown up there was a great benefit. Passionate people
My trip doesn't start for a few mos but planning it was interesting & surprisingly fun. Angela assisted me through every step. She answered each question I had & was very attentive. It's so refreshing to work with people that love what they do. Everyone that has helped me so far seem to be truly passionate about sharing their love for Africa by aiding them to plan their own safari. I can hardly wait to go!

South Africa, Botswana,Namibia safaris
me and my wife had great trip starting with the hotel in Cape Town the location was excellent and the foods also, our visit of Stellenbosch and the hotel was also first class.
our first safari was with Singita Boulders Lodge, the experience was great and all services were very good.
the other visit was in Zambia for the Victoria Falls great locotion for the hotel and site seing,maybe the hotel is overrated for food and rooms.
second safari was in Botswana everything was above our expectation, food ,service and specially our guide Willy.
our third safari was in Namibia,we where at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp great service food and guide Mosus was very good.

Kenyan Safari
We used Wilderness Safaris for our recent trip to Kenya (May 2022). The staff at WS was particularly helpful and creative in creating our itinerary. They listened to the type of trip we wanted and matched it perfectly. James Shortt and his operations team were professional, knowledgeable and helpful. I would highly recommend Wilderness Safaris to plan a trip.
We stayed at two camps in Kenya - Laikipia Wilderness and Naibor and both were amazing experiences. The staff and guides at both locations made our trip extremely special and amazing. The guides at both parks were so knowledgeable and worked with us to tailor our game drives to our interests each day. I would highly recommend both of these camps and hope to visit again in the future.
We also had a local driver in Nairobi (Evans) from the Governors Collection who was simply amazing. We've never had someone go so far above and beyond our expectations.
I hope everyone can have as amazing trip as we did at these camps and using Wilderness Safaris. Can't wait to go back.

I do recommend Wilderness, but carefull with London office "specialists" at their office
Me and family stayed at 2 Wilderness lodges, the Doro Nawas in Namibia and Little Vumbura in Botswana. In both lodges, accomodation were very good standard, the staff absolutely kind and helpfull, the guides 5 stars!
On top of that, we had somme issues at Maun Airport, as Lufthansa just canceled our flight back to Europe without notice and Wilderness staff at Maun, made a terrific job helping us until a next day flight connection. They never abandon us, despite the flight bookings had nothing to do with Wilderness, until we were seated on the plane back.
The only negative point I have to point is the fact that as a professional photographer, I was very clear with the agent at Wilderness London Office explaining my photos objective in Botswana and today I think that Little Vumbura was not the correct lodge to recommend me. The time of the year (high grass and vegetation can become an issue) to do the visit, is very important and I was not aware about high vegetation that hides the animals. I believe that the commercial agents in London office, need a refreshment maybe from the guides in each lodge, regarding which potential animals we have more chance to see and understand the needs of each customer and not only selling the trip, although I realize that the Lodge is open the full year and their needs to sell all the rooms.

Many thanks for your response, I'm glad to hear you had such a good safari and our teams looked after you well with those flight issues etc.
I am however very sorry to hear about the photography issue you describe here Rui. I've chatted to James - the specialist that designed your safari - and there seems to be a level of confusion as he thought you were adding your safari with us on to a Namibia safari that you had already booked with another company, and so the dates were set?
The photography opportunity with the Okavango in full flood is a great reason for travelling during this season. It is one of the best times of year for photographers whilst Namibia is also excellent during this season. Unfortunately grasses can be higher in certain areas of Southern Africa, but a lush green covers the Delta, the crystal clear floods move in, skies are rich and blue...it's a stunning time to travel for the sheer beauty of the Okavango. Travelling later in the season and you lose the colours that photographers tend to appreciate, whilst the migrants have also all flown north, so birding isn't as good then either.
Game viewing is usually reliably good, especially at Little Vumbura. The property and the Vumbura Reserve as a whole are known within the industry for being one of the very best private reserves in Africa, for game viewing and seeing the Okavango Delta at its finest. Off road driving in our reserves also helps any sighting challenges; a major advantage over the National Parks.
However what I can't argue here is the fact that the later in the season you travel, the waterholes dry up and game driving gets increasingly productive. As the land dries and the heat sets in, the grasses lose their strength and herds trample on through. Big game viewing in the country is best from June through to October and this may well be something we should have stressed to you further.
If truth be told, considering the time of year however, I would still have suggested Little Vumbura myself. It's an outstanding property and reserve that showcases Botswana at its best. Travelling later in the season may well have been advice we should have pushed stronger, for cat sightings alone, but poor big game sightings in Vumbura (especially in April and May) is simply not a common occurrence. The long story short, is that it's certainly a challenge to get the balance right for photographers. I'd personally like the chance to see how we can improve on your next trip; I don't like anyone not getting what they want from our safaris!

We stayed at the desert Rhino camp in April 2022
We stayed at the desert Rhino camp in April for a few days. We had a truly amazing once- in-a- lifetime experience: Great spot, fantastic accommodation & food, and above all great service & kindest team. The camp is about a couple of hours away from the main road. Our tip to spot a rhino took us a further 3 away: we had the feeling (not just the feeling obviously) to be very very far away from civilization, truly a priviledge (and adventure!). the Lots of animal to spot big and small. The scenery alone was so so gorgeous. We will never forget our days spent at the camp. Thank you so very much. We dream of coming back.
