Picked Campervan up in Christchurch. Pick up was easy and hassle free. Van performed superbly for the 19day we had it. It was just the 2 of us and my wife was nervous about driving a 7 m long vehicle but the auto gearbox and handling made it a joy to drive. Enough was included inside to make living in it comfortable. If you are traveling the south island definitely get the internet option as we struggled without it, or buy a good road map. Had an excellent holiday made possible by hiring a solid reliable vehicle.

Great to deal with from initial enquire to handover when finished. Vehicle handled perfectly. Rides like a car with plenty of power. Packed with everything you need, and easy to operate including the heating. The motorhome is well insulated so no cold mornings. Staff at Wilderness are very helpful and went through everything and answered all questions. Guided us through all the best sites and apps to help our holiday. Awesome team.

From the moment we sent the first email, until our reluctant drop off, Wilderness were slick and efficient. Our Motorhome ( nicknamed Peggy) was so luxurious and comfortable. Thank you Wilderness ( and Peggy) for an awesome holiday travelling around New Zealand 🇳🇿

Very easy check in process with great instructions on how everything worked.
The van its self was really comfortable and modern. It had heating but also a fan heater which was great for the mornings to take the edge off the colder mornings.
Was great to be self contained when on the road.
The van was so easy to drive and park. The bed was all made up before we picked it up. Came with enough cookware and towels and tea towels for our needs.

Exceptional service from start to finish from the Wilderness staff at Christchurch. The RV was in great condition and ready for us when we arrived. The check in / out process was very easy from the knowledgeable and extremely helpful staff. We had a couple of minor issues whilst out on the road and the support team were super helpful, even on a Sunday afternoon. Would certainly book with these guys again and recommend them to anyone looking for a great escape. Thanks Wilderness

The motorhome itself was perfect…everything is included with no hidden extra costs.
Well maintained vehicle with Quality fittings throughout…offering everything you could need for TRUE off grid living! (even includes ducted heating)
Staff are warm & welcoming and definitely know their stuff!
everything you may need to ask about the motorhome & even the areas your planning on visiting they can assist.
We had an absolute blast but just not long enough.
As most others have said before us….
We Will be back (hopefully in the not to distant future)

The whole experience was very nice and it included an odd event. We picked up the RV at Auckland and intended to stay one week on the north island and then cross to south island by ferry boat returning the same way two weeks later. Unfortunately, we were surprised with delays and cancellations of the ferry. We decided to change strategy completely not to use the ferry, returning the RV at Auckland, Flying to Christchurch and getting another RV there, as Wilderness also has a pickup and delivery facility their. Staff at Wilderness were very supportive and made it happen for us. Thank you!

Excellent first time renting a campervan. Really blessed to have chosen them. Great team and you would feel really safe.

Much attention to detail. Thanks to Thomas who ensured that the child seat was of the right carrying weight for our kids. It was non-negotiable and he insisted that the right seat was provided. The pickup and return was seamless. They also offered to pick up and drop us off at the next venue for our trip

Vehicle was good and well maintained. Good value and makes the campervan experience a very enjoyable one. Certainly not the rough camping trip I was expecting.

Great service. Good driving experience and really capable vehicle in mountains as well as gravel roads. Comfortable campervan.

Wilderness will also book ferry for you. Let them :-)

Would have liked a better mattress. As a Scandinavian we would have preferred quilt over sheets and blanket in bed (but this is probably just a cultural thing). Consider buying cheep quilts/duvet yourself.

The people are wonderful, warm, friendly, helpful, provide great advice & very accommodating. The campervans (Carado, sleeps 4 but we were only 2) was suboptimal; inside multi-levels were annoying, toilet was terrible (very small room with stinky toilet), USB & electrical plugs that didn’t work but it performed well on the road albeit pretty tight on many bridges. Overall experience was fine but a few negatives.

Seamless experience with extremely good information all the time. The RV was great, and everything was very well explained in the manual onboard. Pickup service was really great, and the same upon delivery.

Great van picked up in super condition. We had a small problem with a pipe and it was dealt with quickly and efficiently. Staff on pick up and drop off were friendly and very helpful. Definitely recommend.

We have spent 33 days in a Wilderness Compact Motorhome, travelling the South Island. The van was fantastic, a comfortable and reliable home that allowed us to enjoy camping in a range of beautiful settings. The van was the perfect size for 2 people and easy to drive. We had Wifi in all settings so could stay in touch with the world, if we wanted to! Staff were friendly and helpful. Information shared was excellent. We would definitely recommend Wilderness Motorhomes.

Our 7 day stay in Double for 2 motorhome was superb. The quality and comfort of the vehicle was exceptional. As was all the equipment provided. We were also extremely impressed by their customer service and support. Josie who met us on arrival at their very comfortable depot and gave us our orientation tour of the van was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and a credit to the company. We were also very impressed with their on the road support team who answered our questions promptly. Overall a 5 star experience from start to finish and we will definitely use them again.

Vehicle great quality and condition. Spacious enough for 4 people although we were only two. Staff were very friendly and helpful in planning our trip.
The 24/7 call service was such a bonus when we needed it.
Highly recommend.

Unfortunately the best I can give is 4/5 as we did have a recurring, intermittent problem with the motorhome. On 3 occasions, over 17 days, it would not start due to a flat battery. This resulted in us waiting for roadside recovery for 4 hours, and two 3 hour workshop visits. As a consequence we lost confidence in the motorhome and changed our plans in order not to be stranded in some of the more remote regions that we wanted to visit.

When we reported this to Wilderness they were very good in trying to resolve the problem, and if there were a separate score for this they would get 5/5.

However communications would only get 4/5. They half heartedly use WhatsApp, you can send messages to the same landline number they use for 24/7 support, but messages via WA, to the same number, are only monitored during office hours, why not 24/7? Also you cannot call them and they won’t call you using WA – why not? They sell Wi-Fi in the motorhome, which we had, but don’t allow you to use it for on the road support! Is it too difficult to have both a mobile number, fully utilising WhatsApp, as well as the existing landline for on the road support, both monitored 24/7.

They offered generous compensation (5/5) for the inconvenience and said we would receive it within a week, it took a little longer but we did get it.

I think we were unlucky but I have to reflect my experience in my review. Despite the problems we had I would recommend Wilderness and would consider using them again if ever I get back to New Zealand.
