High fees that I was not expecting
I recently sold a bottle of Macallan through Whisky.Auction. The bottle sold for £150, but only £96 was paid to me after fees.
I was charged £18 commission, £12 listing fee and £24 in reserve fees because the bottle had been listed in two auctions. This meant that £54 was deducted from a £150 sale price — 36% of the final selling price.
I understand that the fees are part of their terms and I accept that I should have researched the costs more carefully before consigning the bottle. However, as a first-time seller, I genuinely did not realise how significant the total deductions could be, particularly the reserve fee when an item has to be listed again.
I contacted Whisky.Auction to ask whether they could consider a partial reduction as a goodwill gesture. They politely explained that the fees are fixed and that they could not offer any reduction or refund.
The process itself was straightforward, but the final amount I received compared with the selling price was disappointing. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering selling through this platform calculates the total fees carefully beforehand, especially if using a reserve price.
To be fair, they were polite and professional in their communication, but I personally would consider other auction platforms in the future because of the overall cost.

I don't generally leave reviews, however I have bought two bottles in the latest auction (early September 2026). I've got my bottles today. To say the packaging is good is doing it down. It's exceptional! There's some value in these bottles and I would have no hesitation in recommending bidders to bid in the knowledge that if they win then the parcel will arrive as it should.

Not the best experience
Entered a bottle for sale. Bottle sold for £45. Buyer defaulted on payment. Whisky.Auction re-entered bottle at next sale (two months later) when bottle sold again, but for £26. They still charged a single entry fee (£6) which I think should have been waived completely, and also charged seller's commission. Naturally very disappointed to have received less money after their buyer defaulted, and with no meaningful compensation at all.

Slow customer service and poor knowledge
I took two bottles to whisky.auction. One bottle was quite unique and needed some research done. After weeks and weeks of chasing they told me they could not verify one of the bottles so didn't want to sell it. I waisted so much time and money chasing them. I then contacted Whisky Auctioneer (a much better company) and they researched it, valued it and then sold it in a few days for a great price.
