I love taking my four month old grandson on a Saturday morning to Thorn Community School. We started in September. It’s a nice little group and our teacher, Courtney is fantastic and so encouraging.

⚠️ WARNING — THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING WITH WATER BABIES ⚠️
I’m extremely disappointed with my experience with Water Babies. I cancelled my Direct Debit, yet £60 was still taken from my account for lessons I’m unable to attend.
What makes this even more frustrating is that rather than refunding the money, I’ve been given a credit. However, the credit system is incredibly restrictive. I can’t simply use the £60 to book another lesson that works for me. I have to wait for the relevant stage of the programme to become available again.
I checked what was available and there were no suitable options close to me, and the options that were available were during dates when I’m away on holiday. So I’m now left with £60 that I have paid for a service I cannot use.
If I used the credit on a random available lesson, my daughter would effectively be going backwards in the programme, which makes absolutely no sense.
I contacted customer service hoping they would actually try to help resolve this, but I was shocked by how little effort was made to find a solution. I was simply told about the credit system rather than anyone actually trying to help.
It is incredibly frustrating to have money taken when I cannot attend the lessons and then be left with a credit that is so difficult to use. As a parent, I expected much better customer service and flexibility.
This has completely ruined what should have been a lovely first swimming experience with my daughter.
⚠️ I would strongly warn other parents to make sure they fully understand the cancellation and credit policy before signing up. I certainly wish I had.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you’re disappointed with your experience, and we appreciate that having to change your lesson arrangements can be frustrating.
We would, however, like to clarify the circumstances around the payment and cancellation. When customers enroll with Water Babies, they agree to our Terms and Conditions, which require **one calendar month’s notice to cancel lessons**. Cancelling a Direct Debit does not constitute cancellation of the lessons or remove the agreed notice period. Direct Debits are a method of collecting payment and cancelling the instruction with the bank does not cancel the underlying contractual commitment.
In this instance, the £60 payment was therefore taken in accordance with the agreed cancellation terms. We appreciate that this may not have been the outcome you were hoping for, but we are unable to treat cancelling the Direct Debit as a cancellation of the lessons or refund payments that remain due under the notice period.
Where lessons cannot be attended during the applicable period, our credit system is designed to retain the value of those lessons so that they can be used within the programme, subject to availability and the relevant stage. We understand that the available options did not fit around your circumstances, including your holiday dates, and we are sorry that this has made the credit feel difficult to use.
We always encourage customers to review the cancellation and credit provisions in our Terms and Conditions before cancelling, and our customer service team is there to explain how these provisions apply. While we appreciate that you may have wanted a different resolution, the terms do need to be applied consistently and fairly across our customer base.
We’re genuinely sorry that this situation has affected your experience with Water Babies, particularly when we know how important those first swimming experiences can be. We hope that, should you choose to continue with us in the future, we can help make your daughter’s swimming journey a much more positive experience.
Repeated cancellations
Paid for a month up front only for them to cancel 3 out of the 4 lessons, 2 were only a few hours before the lesson was supposed to happen. They then cancelled all sessions going forward. They did agree a refund of the lessons not received but just a really disappointing experience for a child just starting to develop water confidence, who took a lot of persuasion to get there in the first place. My daughter actually really enjoyed the only lesson she did have, so no reflection of the actual teacher only the organisation of the course.

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and completely understand how disappointing and frustrating this must have been, especially when your daughter had begun building confidence in the water and was enjoying her lesson.
We appreciate your kind words about the teacher, and we’re pleased to hear that the lesson she attended was a positive experience. We recognise that the repeated late cancellations and the cancellation of future sessions fell far short of the standard of service you should have received.
While we’re glad a refund was arranged for the missed lessons, we understand that this does not make up for the disruption and disappointment caused, particularly for a child just beginning their swimming journey.
Your feedback has been noted and will be shared with the relevant team so we can review how courses are organised and communicated moving forward.

Not the right value for money
Whilst they can be very good, I personally felt that my toddler did not learn much due to very frequent class cancellations which resulted in excessive gaps within the classes. I would expect some improvements given the cost they charge.

Teacher is fantastic and so are the lessons. Also nice small classes however the facilities at cardinal wiseman are poor, pool water is not always warm but instead very cold most of the time, changing rooms are tiny and inadequate and no heating provided. We have since cancelled our sessions completely as this provider cannot provide a safe environment for my daughter to learn swimming.
