Used to be speedy in resolving claims but the last two I’ve put in for a mouth guard they claimed they needed more information like the person making the claim, itemised bill from the provider etc a... Vis mer

Submitted a claim for check up and dental cleaning, they've only paid back the check up costs and not explained why they won't cover the dental cleaning, even though this is an NHS treatment and it's clearly covered under the schedule.
Tried to call and was hung up on numerous occasions.
If they're only willing to pay check up costs, the policy is not worth the paper it's written on.
Added 2 stars as finally got through to a handler called Joe who advised system is down and promised a call back, so was helpful but will await call back before looking to amend review.
***update***
Got a call back from Joe Maundrell - absolutely fabulous, sorted out the remaining amount, explained why this had happened looked into the calls. Couldn't be happier with his service, he was helpful, pleasant and very good at his job! - he deserves 5 stars for avoiding a formal complaint by taking ownership and in my view as a customer going above and beyond to help me.
Amended review to 4 stars, 5 for Joe, however still frustrated with Unum for the initial communications

I had a very frustrating experience…
I had a very frustrating experience with UNUM Dental when submitting a claim. Despite clearly having two separate dental issues - one for periodontitis and another for a filling—they attempted to group everything under a single “course of treatment” to limit the reimbursement.
The treatments were diagnosed on different dates and relate to completely different conditions, yet I was still asked to prove this and go back to my dentist for confirmation. This feels unnecessarily bureaucratic and puts the burden on the customer to justify something that should be straightforward.
The process lacks clarity, and the interpretation of NHS rules seems overly rigid and not in the customer’s interest. Overall, the experience has been time-consuming and disappointing.
Poor experience, mistakes
Honestly, I am not satisfied with the service provided by this company. I use this provider as part of my employer’s benefits package, and I submitted two claims — one for myself and one for my husband.
When I later checked the claim I created for my husband, it showed a lower amount than what I had originally paid. At first, I assumed I must have entered the wrong amount by mistake. Then, when I submitted my own claim, I made sure to take a screenshot of the details I entered.
Today, I received an email saying that my claim had been approved. When I checked, I noticed that for my own claim as well, the system showed an amount that was £100 less than what I had actually entered. I logged into the website, and it displayed the same reduced figure. When I compared it with my screenshot, I confirmed that I had entered the correct amount originally — but somehow, the claim amount had been altered afterward, and it now appears as though I entered the lower figure myself, while also showing that I have been fully reimbursed.
There is clearly an issue here. Why is my £950 claim being displayed as though I submitted £852? Likewise, I paid £443 for my husband’s claim, but it has been reduced to £398.
These are not the amounts approved or reimbursed by the insurance provider — these are the amounts I personally entered when creating the claims. How is it possible for these figures to be changed in the system?
I will check my company if it is okay I will add more detail here because I cannot trust them.
Extremely low payout for fillings
I have a 'Clear 5' policy with them, which is the top one.
I has x4 fillings, at a regular dentist, The cost was £748,
Umum pay £55 if you have 1, £65 if you have 2, and £80 if you have 3.
... so in effect they are paying you £55 for filling 1, and then an additional amount of £25 for fillings 2&3.
Wouldn't recommend, their are better providers out there.

Private dentist. I had an exam and descale. I've got level 1 cover. So around 27quid per treatment should be claimed. They only paid out for one, saying it's classed as one treatment as it was done on the same day. Feel like this has been misold.

Used to be speedy in resolving claims but the last two I’ve put in for a mouth guard they claimed they needed more information like the person making the claim, itemised bill from the provider etc and what the treatment covers. I’d logged the claim on their app so I don’t know why they claimed they needed to know who the patient claiming the treatment was.
Twice this has happened and I can’t be bothered with the hassle so am cancelling my policy.
These people will pester you non stop I…
These people will pester you non stop I made it clear I was not interested in filling a claim yet I was receiving phone calls and emails almost non stop to the point of borderline harassment. When one employee refused to stop calling I got very short with him over the phone to then have a different employee ring me back within a day
