I booked and fully paid a room in Porto via Uniplaces months in advance. The landlord, Pedro Canedo, accepted the booking and received the rent.
The evening before my arrival, he informed me the room was no longer available due to “overbooking”, meaning it had been rented to someone else. He offered a clearly inferior alternative (an attic room without basic features advertised), which I rightly refused.
Despite acknowledging that I was entitled to a full refund, he has kept the money. This is a clear breach of contract and unjust enrichment.
Uniplaces’ handling is just as concerning. Under their own terms, this situation qualifies for a full refund (rent + service fee), yet they have refused to reimburse the service fee, failed to compensate emergency accommodation costs, and even refused to disclose the landlord’s address, effectively blocking legal action.
As a result, I was left without accommodation at the last minute and forced to pay for alternatives out of pocket.
This case is now subject to formal legal action.
Avoid this landlord at all costs. And think twice before trusting Uniplaces to protect you if something goes wrong, they don’t.

1. They freeze the monthly rent and fees on your credit card immediately after booking. If the host refuses, your money is locked for a WEEK, preventing you from booking other options on other platforms.
2. The website was glitchy, and the image galleries didn't work. I was unable to see pictures of the homes
3. Very low number of options
I have not rented a room through their service. However, throughout my searches in Lisbon, I would receive responses for €400 a month rooms to rent asking for a deposit payment of €35,000. I find this to be absolutely absurd and borderline illegal. Logically, no one in their sane mind would rent a €400 room if they had €35k laying around for a deposit. Additionally, there are very high administrative costs for a minimal amount of work done on their part. This is just my honest feedback as to why I will not be using their services.

This company are terrible... the listings are absolute dumps that bear no resemblance to the place advertised, they'll steal your money whenever they can... and a local will tell say you could rent a place twice as nice for less money. They bank on foreign students not knowing the local market or law so they can exploit them.

I made a reservation in Naples; they charged me the reservation fee and service charges (which, by the way, are quite high)—more than 1,350 euros. The reservation wasn’t processed, and a week later, I still haven’t received a refund. This clearly affects me directly and financially, and I’m unable to continue looking for other options; the offers I’m receiving don’t match what I had agreed upon in the original reservation.
