Typiq is a desktop app that teaches touch typing. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and it is built for people who want to stop looking at the keyboard. The app works entirely offline. There is no account to create, no cloud sync, and nothing about your practice leaves your computer. We do not collect usage data, we do not show ads, and there is no subscription. You pay once and keep that version for life. The course is split in two. Adults and older students get a full lesson course and a practice screen that reports speed and accuracy as they type. Younger children get a separate kids mode: nine typing games across three age groups, fourteen levels to work through, and stickers to collect. It is deliberately built without the streak pressure and nagging mechanics that are common in this category. The interface is available in several languages, with matching keyboard layouts, so learners practise on the layout they actually use. Alongside single and family licences, we sell yearly classroom and school licences for teachers who want to use Typiq with a group. Problems with non-English Keyboard - Poor Customer Service

I use an Italian keyboard, as I regularly write in Italian, and chose Typiq because it claims to support the Italian layout. I found that the on-screen Italian keyboard was correctly shown. However, when the course reaches the right little finger, Typiq asked me to type ';' at the key which, on an Italian keyboard, is 'ò'. To type ';' on my physical Italian keyboard I have to press Shift + ',', so Typiq was teaching me the wrong key. The exercise should have asked for 'ò' at that position. I imagine that there would be the same problem with the other keys, which differ from an English layout, but was not able to get that far. I emailed Typiq Support to raise the issue, and did not even receive an acknowledgement. As the App is of no use to me, I have emailed Typiq Support again to request a refund. Once again, I have I have not even received an acknowledgement. I was surprised, therefore, to receive an email today from Typiq Support, not responding to either email, but requesting a review! I have given the App two stars instead of one, because I think that it could be good if the non-English keyboard bug were resolved and Support were to reply to emails. In such a case, I would certainly use it again, and probably be able to give a much better review.

Hi William,

You were right, and I'm sorry. Typiq's position drills were built on US key positions, so on the Italian layout the course asked for ";" on the key where your keyboard has "ò". The on-screen keyboard showed the right layout, but the exercises didn't follow it. The same thing affected Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and Greek keyboards.

It's fixed: the drills now ask for the character that is actually on each key, on every layout we support. The fix is in the next desktop update.

The part I regret most is the silence. A technical issue with our support inbox meant your emails arrived but were never forwarded to us, so they went unanswered. I'm very sorry about that. It's fixed now: every message to support comes straight to me. I've replied to you by email and your refund has been processed in full.

Thank you for describing the problem so clearly. It made the fix straightforward.

Really useful typing app

Really useful typing app. It's simple, responsive, and makes practicing feel surprisingly enjoyable. I've already noticed an improvement in my speed and accuracy. Definitely worth trying!

Simple and effective typing app

I’ve been using Typiq to improve my typing speed and accuracy, and I really like how simple and intuitive it is. The exercises are easy to follow and the progress tracking keeps you motivated.

It is an amazing tool to learn

It’s a very useful tool. Very easy to learn, keeps track of your progress. I highly recommend it!!! Finally at 40 years old I learned to type with all my fingers 😀.
