Worst Travel Insurance Ever!

Wish I could give less than 1! The whole premise of TripMates Insurance is that you are a liar, you are trying to extort money from them, and that you will finally give up on their "process" and just say forget it!

Trip to Europe with my family (10 people). Flight delayed due to weather, had to stay overnight in Atlanta since we missed our connection to London. Lost our prepaid hotel, transfers, and train from London to Paris. Had to pay for a hotel in Atlanta and extra night in Paris. Upon returning home, started the claim "process". They want you to prove EVERYTHING beyond a reasonable doubt! You can't just send your receipts and original itinerary. They want to know the date you purchased their insurance policy! Really?!! You also have to send your credit card statement showing you were actually charged for your expenses, in addition to all your receipts. And you need a letter from the airline showing how, when, and why you missed your connecting flights and how, when, and where you were rerouted including flight numbers and seat assignments. They say it takes 30 days after they receive ALL your documents, even if you already sent them and they send you a letter stating you have to resend them, which then restarts the 30 day clock. So far it has been 92 days since I started this process and still no check. This "process" has cost me 74 hours of my life I will never get back, including phone calls, collecting documents, completing their ridiculous forms, emails, re-sending documents I already sent. DO NOT use this company!!!

Trip Mate should be shut down!

Trip Mate should be shut down! They denied my claim with no explanation after no updates for over a month. I only found this out after calling. No calls, no emails, no explanation. I will be calling the state insurance commission and the travel company who recommended them. A criminal investigation needs to take place on Trip Mate!

This INSURANCE IS A SCAM!!
Please do not use this company they will never ever reimburse a penny for you. Got my baggage lost in sheremetievo Russian airport - received my luggage more than 24 hr later- submitted ORIGINAL PAPER FROM AIRPORT WITH STAMPS AND DATES ON IT TO THIS crap insurance company- they reviewed it for 4 month then denied my claim- because they do not accept my proof of baggage delay. Scam!!
How a legit insurance do not accept ORIGINAL PAPERWORK FROM AIRPORT???

Buyer BEWARE

Buyer BEWARE. This company is a scam. We were sold this insurance by AAA without prior investigation. We planned a Hawaiian vacation to the Big Island & Maui. We cancelled with 4 months notice due to the Kilauea volcano eruptions. They denied our claim after 4 months and indicated that we would have to live in the uninhabitable area with toxic fumes, vog and poisonous gases. They are thieves to keep our money. Do not use this company.

I was sold Trip Mate insurance when…

I was sold Trip Mate insurance when purchasing a ticket home for my daughter after a 7 month deployment. The agent stated it was good to have with her being Military in case we had to make any changes to travel plans. As it turns out, we did directly due to her job. No problem, they said, you have insurance. I bought another ticket and would file all proper paperwork with Trip Mate, including a letter from the Navy. 5 months later they denied it. It doesn't cover anything unless there is an actual war. I was scammed. They should not be able to victimize anyone, much less someone serving our country. Disgraceful SCAM!

Very bad company

Very bad company. I submitted my claim over two months ago and have not been paid. They are really hard to get a hold of on the phone. After waiting two months finally I got a call. They are trying to settle with me for less then full. This company should be investigate by the Attorney General office. Don't Use them

TRIP MATE IS HORRIBLE!

I wanted to share my story on a bad situation I had with both Spirit Airlines & Trip Mate Travel Insurance. I purchased a flight to Panama City Panama back in February 22nd, 2018. I purchased the flight to have a good time for my birthday with my family. I was offered the insurance in case of any circumstance that could happen when I booked it through Cheap O Air. My flight was set for me to leave on June 20th 2018 and I had booked the flight to leave from Orlando FL, make a stop in Fort Lauderdale FL, and then off to Panama City Panama. We got to the airport in Orlando a whole 3 hours before time. It started pouring down in Orlando and they delayed our flight. We spoke to many spirit airlines employees and they assured us that we were going to be okay and that they spoke to Fort Lauderdale’s Spirit Airline employees and they advised us they were going to hold our flights. We got to Fort Lauderdale, and ran for our lives to the other side of the airport and we missed our flight by 8 minutes. We went directly to the Spirit Airline section and asked for the next available flight and they told us that there’s nothing they can do but wait until tomorrow night at 11 PM. That means I would have to wait a whole day in an airport and I was with my two kids aged 4&9. I asked for them to accommodate my family & I and they gave us and the other 9 people who were in the same boat as us who also were on the same flight as us in Orlando and who had also missed their flight to Panama attitudes for complaining and called security on us. My husband then purchased other tickets with American Airlines for the next available flight and spent over $1,500 just on a one way flight to Panama from Miami. I then contacted a Lyft and got a ride to Miami to sleep in a hotel near the airport. The hotel we stayed in was the Fairfield INN located at 4101 NW 11th St, Miami, FL 33126. The next morning we left on our flight with American Airlines and had absolutely no issues. When we got back from our amazing trip I contacted Trip Mate Travel Insurance and they advised me if I had proof of all of our expenses they would reimburse us. I submitted everything accordingly and they made us wait over a month for a joke of only getting back $30.97. I submitted all the expenses of everything we had to pay out of pocket for something that was out of our control. I contacted Trip Mate Travel Insurance and they said my claim did not meet the standards to get approved. I was on the phone with a representative who could not help so I asked for the call to be escalated to upper management and I was speaking to a representative named Eric who is considered to be a supervisor in the claims dept. I expressed my disappointment and explained my whole situation and he kept insisting nothing can be done. I paid more for the insurance coverage than what I'm initially getting back. I advised him I would not get off the phone until this issue was resolved and I wanted him to get his supervisor and for him not to place me on hold to avoid the call getting disconnected. The representative Eric decided to put his phone on mute and had me on hold for over an hour and not once checked in on me and once it turned 9 PM he disconnected the call. I have proof of all the recordings of our call and I also have all the proof of all my expenses. I would appreciate it so much if you guys can help me and my family for this unfair treatment.

I also have video proof of me being placed on mute for over an hour if you need that as well.

Trip Mate Cancellation Insurance is a joke. Do not do business with this company. I had to cancel my trip to an unforeseen accident and purchased cancellation insurance. Trip Mate has ignore all the letters I sent requesting a refund of $150.00. This company is the worst company to deal with. Be a smart shoppers and DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH TRIP MATE.

DO NOT PURCHASE INSURANCE FROM TRIP …

DO NOT PURCHASE INSURANCE FROM TRIP MATE IT IS A SCAM! They are the worst trip insurance that you can purchase. They will take your money and run you through countless hoops only to tell you that they will not reimburse you for a flight. My wife had to have emergency back surgery and we had to cancel our flight to Dallas. They denied the claim because they said it was a pre-existing condition. True she did have a back issue but only after we had purchased tickets for a flight to Dallas did her surgeon evaluate her and tell us that she had to have surgery immediately due to a bulging herniated disk and several other emergency issues because she could be paralyzed if it was not immediately treated. We explained this to trip mate but they didn't care and denied our initial claim and after appealing their decision they said that it was a pre-existing condition and still would not do the right thing and give us our money back. Common sense plays a factor here! Why would anyone pay for a flight and get trip insurance only to cancel their flight? I guess if someone has cancer and purchased a flight, buys trip insurance from trip mate, and is told by their physician that they have to go through chemo trip mate would see that as a pre-existing condition and would not pay your claim. DO NOT PURCHASE INSURANCE FROM TRIP MATE! THEY ARE A SCAM!!!

Useless! Do NOT waste your money!

Travel insurance with this company is useless. Please do not waste your money! They do not use logic and common sense and will deny your claim without proper consideration.

My husband took a 3-week honeymoon trip through Southern Africa and purchased travel insurance through World Nomads, which was administered by TripMate. During the trip, I injured one of my front tooth while white water rafting in Zambia. It was 2 weeks into the trip, and we were in the middle of nowhere in Zambia on our honeymoon, so we decided to wait until we get back to the States to seek medical attention (if it's still needed, as it could have just been bruised).

Once we got back home, the tooth got a bit better, than worse, so I finally went to my dentist who found a fracture of the tooth root and told me that multiple procedures and appointments were required to remove the tooth and complete the dental implant process. I then filed a travel insurance claim. It is a very invasive and complicated procedure, and my dentist provided World Nomads/TripMate with a detailed explanation of the procedure and how it needed to be done correctly since it will impact my smile (being part of my front teeth section) and how it would take a long time to complete the procedure and recover, and this should not and could not have been done overseas.

Of course, World Nomads/TripMate denied my claim, stating "...Both the Accidental Injury and the dental Emergency Treatment must occur during the Trip...". They wanted documentation that the injury occurred during the trip along with the treatment.

Issues that I have with the denial, which I have already appealed once:
1. We were in the middle of Zambia, white water rafting with a local company. I told the tour guides when I injured my tooth, and you know what they said? "Oh, do you want to put some ice on it?". This is Africa, their rules of operation are a bit different there: they didn't file a report, there was no documentation even when I asked for one.

2. The tour guides wanted me to put ice on my broken tooth...do you really think I would trust anyone there with the extraction of my front tooth? As my dentist stated in his letter, it is a very sensitive and complicated procedure. While I'm sure there are qualified dentist in Zambia, we were in the middle of the jungle on our honeymoon, and hunting down a qualified dentist was not something we are capable of doing given our language barrier amongst other concerns.

3. My dentist sent in a letter stating that the whole procedure of removing the tooth and completing the implant would take over a span of 6 months. Needless to say, this could not have been completed while we were in Zambia, unless World Nomads/TripMate wanted to pay for our 6 months stay in Zambia while I complete the procedure.

Please understand that people travel for pleasure, and they would rather not seek sensitive and complicated medical attention overseas, unless it's life threatening. They want to enjoy their vacation, and not spend time in a hospital or doctor's office when it's unnecessary. Unless your travel insurance also covers for lost vacation time while seeking those unnecessary medical attention to adhere by your "medical emergency rules", it's unreasonable to ask travelers for forego their precious personal time. You are a travel insurance company; you are supposed to make traveling less stressful, not more.

​It is unfortunate that World Nomads/TripMate does not care about their customer's needs and repeatedly named the same clause for denying my claim. I have stated many times my reasons for not seeking dental attention while on our honeymoon if rural Zambia. It is good to know that World Nomads/TripMate does not take any personal/situational circumstances when approving claims, and I'll be sure to share my experience so others can choose travel insurance wisely and pick a company that is more reasonable and logical when it comes to customer's travel needs.

Purchased travel insurance from this …

Purchased travel insurance from this company. Could not fly, submitted a claim. They parsed out the "acceptable" reasons for not paying the claim which were not at all clear when the policy was purchased. No purpose in purchasing travel insurance except to recoup your ticket price if you cannot fly. This company makes sure that is next to impossible to do!
