Medical elective Tanzania
I did the medical elective and was able to attend hospital placement everyday in a local hospital and experience a range of specialities. Tanzania has so much to offer and TMR allows you to do so with lots of trips on offer. The location of the Hostel in Moshi is great. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The hostel accommodation is a little outdated in the rooms. I would say it is good value for money.

Ive had an amazing experience in Sri Lanka doing the turtle programme i have felt very safe being able to explore the local area and have been given amazing opportunity's such as releasing baby turtles and seeing elephants close up during the weekend trips that are offered! We have had a lot of free time which has enabled us to visit the local town hikkaduwa. Some places i would recommend going to are Sunny side up, Citrus (pool) and Tantalize (pool). The food has been basic and very repetitive which i understand for the price you pay but i have really enjoyed finding new restaurants to eat at and food to get delivered to the accommodation ! Thank you The Mighty Roar!

Teaching volunteering in sri lanka
I spent two weeks volunteering as an English teacher in Sri Lanka and absolutely loved my experience! I really enjoyed visiting different schools and then returning to the same classes, as it meant we could get to know the students throughout the two weeks. I also loved the balance between volunteering and having free time to explore the local towns and beaches. Having the weekends off was perfect for travelling further afield and seeing more of Sri Lanka. Overall, it was such a rewarding experience, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to combine volunteering with exploring Sri Lanka!

I did the turtle program and I freakimg loved it
I did the turtle program and I absolutely loved the experience to work with such magcal creatures. As I'm studying biology I did this trip for my Uni, and I don't regret a single bit. Apart from the project, I met so many nice and lovely people, I got really close with and I'm definetly staying in contact with.
The staff, and especially Chathu, are so kind, I felt like home. I would really recommend choosing this company and it was surely not my last trip with them:)
Thank you for everything:) Tobi

The Mighty Roar Sri Lanka
The Mighty Roar team in Sri Lanka is super helpful I had a great time volunteering and seeing around the area. I would thoroughly recommend the Hill country and Safari weekend Trip especially! The Childcare programme is very well organised and allows volunteers to get involved and help out in the pre schools. It was great to get to know the children even for a short amount of time.

I am a second-year nursing student and…
I am a second-year nursing student and volunteered at St Joseph’s Hospital for three weeks, working in the HDU, A&E, and the labour ward. I found these placements to be both informative and eye-opening. The staff were lovely, welcoming, and always willing to support and teach students. The only challenge was the language barrier; however, most staff members were able to speak and understand a considerable amount of English, which made communication much easier.
I am very grateful for my time at the hospital, as I believe it is especially important for nurses to experience and understand the differences in healthcare provision in less privileged areas. The placement provided valuable insight into both clinical practice and the realities of delivering care in different settings.
The accommodation was ideally located, close to the hospital, town centre, and local markets. The staff at the accommodation also organised plenty of opportunities to experience the local culture through trips and activities during free time. They were welcoming, friendly, and supportive, always making you feel heard, cared for, and comfortable.
As a vegetarian, I was pleased that there were always vegetarian meal options available, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure I had something suitable to eat.
One small downside was that the rooms were on the smaller side and the bathrooms could occasionally be a little inconvenient. However, the beds were comfortable, and considering the price, the accommodation offered excellent value for money. Overall, my experience was incredibly positive, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for both a rewarding healthcare placement and an opportunity to experience a different culture.

medical elective
Did my medical elective with mighty roar in Tanzania, the hostel was perfect and the whole team were lovely. The meals were home cooked every night. There’s plenty of activities for volunteers to do and explore the Kilimanjaro region. There’s a hotel beside the hostel with a pool that volunteers can pay to use. Overall great experience that I’d recommend to anyone.

Spent 3 weeks with TMR in Moshi
Spent 3 weeks with TMR in Moshi, Tanzania on a medical elective. It was a great experience. The hospital itself was interesting to see and the placement could have been organized better but overall I had a great time. The day trips were all very fun (my favourites being the hot springs and Kilimanjaro day hike). The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful and will fix any issues you run in to very fast. It's lovely to have the hotel pool next door available to use for a low price as the volunteering ends in the morning so most of the day is free to relax. There are drivers available to drive you wherever you want for free. I had a great time!

Medical elective placement. Disappointed. Avoid.
My experience with The Mighty Roar was completely disappointing from start to finish due to a total lack of organisation, full explanations and support before travelling, and being completely ignored or dismissed with my concerns while out there.
There was no support prior to travelling in choosing placement areas in the hospital, or indication of the importance that your cv would have upon your allocation. Pre-trip materials claimed constant guidance, but basic support was lacking by the UK team.
There was a serious lack of project structure, the accommodation was worse than basic, with mice and cockroches inside, a disgusting smell of filthy drains, and dirty bathroom without even a separate shower cubicle making me wonder where the substantial payment the mighty roar received from me went to. Food was very basic, and the same each meal time. I ended up very sick one day from eating a few mouthfuls of salad that im guessing were washed in tap water. I lost half a stone due to only eating boiled rice.
Daily hospital visits were chaotic, leaving myself and other volunteers stranded without any direction, or supervision. Save your money and look elsewhere for a structured, responsible volunteer program.
Reply to your response:
To clarify- my concerns via whatsapp were actively dismissed, and it was implied that I was in the wrong. I was left waiting 24 hours for a response after explaining that my incorrect placement allocation posed a health risk because my medication lowers my immune system. Your team then abruptly responded by claiming the medication I had told you about did not have that effect. Having non-medical staff dismiss a volunteer's medical risks is highly dangerous.
Furthermore, your claim of a structured program is false. During my second week of placement no one was there to greet me on the ward or provide direction. I was left wandering around a non-English speaking hospital trying to ask what to do, only to be told by nurses that I could not help. This complete lack of safety, structure, and basic hygiene is why I consider this program a failure.
Further reply-
In your email you said " we do not propose to enter into any further correspondence on this matter."

So I went to Kenya for five weeks on my physiotherapy elective placement and wow, what a time it was a special thank you to the whole team in Kenya including Dilman lavender Eugene Elijah and Linet. Everyone was superb the whole way through they were able to help us with any queries. They took us on a city tour on the first day and gave us all the guidance we needed. We even was able to plan a trip to Mount Longonot which was a memorable experience. The team helped her so much to find physiotherapy hospitals and even allowed us to go to a rehab Centre for children with cerebral palsy. And now special thank you to Linet she was our host mother and wow she is the best. She’s the most kind hearted person and she made us some of the best foods and the vibes with her around was amazing. The whole experience was so easy and such a memorable time I recommend it to anyone.

Ghana medical elective
I had a great time during my medical elective in Ghana. The hospital staff were very friendly and welcoming. They explained everything and were so accommodating.
The team in Busua were all amazing (Dinah, Francis, Stephen, Rubben, Alfred…) and really took such good care of us. The accommodation is located right by the beach with many activities organised by the team.
I truly recommend this program and will be forever grateful for this experience.

Turtle volunteering
Me and my husband did the Turtle volunteering as a part of our honeymoon and we loved it so much, the team were brilliant and kind. We got to realise over 170 turtles. The Mighty Roar also offered extras we did kayaking, a boat safari and took the coach to the surfing to see galle but didn't fancy surfing. We got to walk up to a waterfall and swim at the top of it. We enjoyed doing beach cleans and feeling apart of something truly special!
