I paid €500 for a Tax Position Review concerning a time-sensitive Portuguese tax matter with a known deadline. The overall experience was deeply disappointing.

A significant part of the arrangement was that the €500 review fee could be credited against a subsequent implementation engagement above €1,500.

On 28 July, immediately after receiving the review, I confirmed in writing that I wanted Taxbordr to proceed with the Portuguese implementation work. I asked for a fixed-fee proposal, a timeline aligned with the tax deadline, and the invoice for the €500 already paid.

On 30 July I followed up again and supplied additional documentation. I received no response.

I contacted them again on 24 August, including another request for the invoice. Again, no response.

Because the matter had a hard tax deadline, I ultimately had to hire and pay another Portuguese tax professional to complete the work and protect my tax position.

Taxbordr later acknowledged in writing that my emails of 28 and 30 July had gone unanswered for almost a month and described that failure as theirs.

I also repeatedly requested the invoice/accounting document for the €500 payment. On 3 September I was told it would be issued that week, but it had still not been provided at the time of my subsequent follow-up.

After my complaint, a €300 partial refund was agreed. On 3 September I was told in writing: “I processed the refund on the amount you requested just now.” The refund did not arrive.

Taxbordr subsequently confirmed in writing that the agreed €300 refund was not conditional on changing or removing my reviews. That position was later changed, and the refund was made conditional on amending or removing a public review.

The issue for me is not simply one delayed email. It is the combination of almost a month without follow-up on a time-sensitive tax matter, having to hire another professional to complete the implementation, repeated delays in receiving the requested invoice, and the subsequent handling of the agreed refund.

Based on my experience, I would not use Taxbordr again.

I had a difficult and extensive tax situation to handle and was searching for a tax advisor where I had no need to go to Lisbon several times or have constant meetings and calls, since my free time is very limited.
