All our requirements where matched and well sourced by Tailor made trains and we had a wonderful week travelling the Rhine in Germany. The staff where open to changes and communication was great from start to finish. We were alerted whilst away of any disruptions that we needed to know about and despite the last day of disruptions being beyond all persons control, the company were kind enough to pay half a taxi fare we need to get to make the connecting trains. All in all we would use again and highly recommend.

Well arranged itinerary. Good quality hotels.
The only unhappy experience was the absence of air-con for part of the train journey from Bucharest to Istanbul.

We highly recommend TMR! Our family of three wanted to get from central Europe to Turkey within a specific time period and TMR were able to create the perfect itinerary for us. The hotels were top-notch, and the pdf packet they give you is really helpful. They were available and responsive whenever we had questions. Exactly what we were looking for.

Excellent communication, lovely organised tickets all in pouches and useful information about trains and how to understand the tickets / seating etc in different languages. Helped me out whilst away , answer the phone quickly . Great value holiday and lovely hotels .

Great holiday with all we wanted in terms of rail travel and accommodation. Communications with TLR was good and they were always responsive.

Great service from Tailor made rail - always there at the end of the phone if we had a problem. We had a great holiday. the trains and hotels they booked were great.

All the train tickets worked perfectly and any queries we had were answered very quickly. We liked all three hotels, especially the hotel in Stresa, which was superb. We will certainly travel with Tailor Made Rail again.

The organisation was perfect, good hotels trains on time, the boats were very good , really couldn’t fault any of our holiday , it was quite tiring but worth it .

What an adventure we had ! Having never travelled by rail before as a mode of transport on holiday it was quite daunting when we got our schedule and tickets !
We had a fantastic time and loved the variety of all the places we visited.
Train travel - get to the station early as there may be a change to your train's schedule.
We encountered this on the Stuttgart/ Vienna train. Our scenic route train had somehow ended up leaving from a station near Stuttgart and we missed it sadly. However the information staff easily put us on another route and we had a few hours in Nuremberg on the way to Vienna.
Stuttgart was fun and we even ended up watching a live music concert in the main square! It's a vibrant and very cosmopolitan city and if course the beer was good !
Vienna we loved, elegant, beautiful, charming and I would love to go back and see all the museums and art galleries!
Next to Brasov and the train was on time and comfortable. We loved Brasov! Beautiful hotel, lovely people, fab food and Bran Castle's true story and history is far more interesting than the Dracula myth !
We also went up the cable car in the ski area and the views were spectacular.
Next Brasov to Bucharest on a supposed sleeper ? We did get the sleeper but it was a totally different train that we had to run for at Budapest station! This was our first experience of Romanian trains ....let's just say, we nicknamed it the " Agatha Christy Train" ( I have to say while we were panicking about the sleeper train we contacted Tailor Made and they were most helpful in sorting and alternative stay overnight for us that thankfully we didn't need)
Bucharest was busy, very hot and fascinating! Real contrasts of life here that take some accepting. Great food and lots to see and understand about the communist times and how things have and are changing.
Final train and we have to say this was quite an experience in almost 40 degrees heat with no Aircon !! Another charming " Agatha Christy Train " but I think this one had bypassed the " new sanitary ware ' upgrade ....I will leave that one for you to work out !
The guard on the train was extremely helpful and we managed to communicate reasonably well in spite of us knowing no Romanian. Be prepared for long stops and borders and two passport checks. The second one you have to get off with all your luggage and do a security check.
Take plenty of water and drinks with you as there is NO FOOD OR WATER AVAILABLE
You are on this train for a full 24 hours. There is a small shop on the Turkish border.
Last stop, Istanbul 😎 This is a crazy busy place so be prepared to be hustled to eat in restaurants, buy carpets, get a taxi etc etc!
Flights how were great and we used our rail pass to get home.
Hotels - every hotel was a great standard and we loved all of them
Maps and info were also really concise and helpful.
Tailor Made Rail were really helpful when we were panicking about the night train.
Trains, the German ones were the best !
Weather - it was HOT so perhaps think about this and maybe consider spring or Autumn if you want to do a lot of waking and exploring!
Taxis - we used Uber everywhere to get about quickly or walked to places locally.
Would we do it again - a very resounding yes ! Rail travel is so much easier than driving and the ability to stay in hotels within easy reach of the station surprised us !

Impeccable organisation. Clear documentation. Lovely hotels. Just an overall great experience.

You need more than 1 hour to change trains in Paris
You need to state clearly what is/isn't included in the first class train tickets, (doesn't include any food or drink!)
You need to advise how unreliable/dirty and slow train travel is between Vienna and Istanbul, (worse than India 30 years ago!)

Unbelievably smoothe journey all the way from London to Istanbul. Every detail so carefully thought through and arranged for us.

Well organised rail travel with great hotels and stunning scenery. Really good communication from Tailor Made Rail throughout.
