One of the WORST experiences I've had
This was one of the worst real estate transaction experiences I have had, and I've bought and sold property across two states and DC in the past decade. While everyone at Stewart Title was kind, I would not describe any of them as competent. I had to pull my own loan documents for payoff (after multiple phone calls giving them instructions for how to do their job). The software they use for information intake and document upload has the worst user interface I've seen in years, but they also required me to send multiple sensitive documents (bank and loan statements) via email; I just assume that my identity will be hacked, so I've taken appropriate precautions. I don't know if it's directly related, but the email address I used with them for closing was hacked the month after closing although I've used it securely for over a decade. Additionally, I didn't know when or where my closing was until the morning of, and when I attended closing there were mistakes in the paperwork that neither the title company nor notary (who worked frequently in real estate) found. I gave the notary my bank account information for fund disbursement (as instructed), but then the title company called me the next day to ask for a bank statement (via email) to get the same information again.
I cannot state this emphatically enough: do NOT use Stewart Title for buying or selling real estate. In my opinion, it is likely to be one of the most frustrating and error-prone experiences you will have.
