I chose to instruct Eleanor Robinson at Rothera Bray because a friend of mine of 50 years standing had recommended her. She and her colleague Kerry from the Mapperley branch of Rothera Bray dealt with us in an efficient and timely manner and wrapped everything up calmly and without incident. I can't praise them highly enough. The solicitor practice we used in the past have moved on to corporate law, but I feel very reassured that Rothera Bray will be there in the future when I need the services of a solicitors' practice.

Last year we decided to downsize from a three bed semi with a large garden to a two bed apartment with a tiny garden. We had been in our previous house for 35 years; both our daughters grew up there.

Due to illness the garden had become completely overgrown and the house had boxes that “needed sorting” all over ( am am neurodivergent ). The move was a good thing but because of the time we were there it was hard.

We were offered online solicitors by the Estate Agent but I wanted a “bricks and mortar” Nottingham based Solicitor.

From the initial phonecall we were made to feel valued customers. Johanna Goddard was our solicitor with her team. As it is a leasehold property it seemed like everyone wanted a say in the lease which delayed things. I finally asked if we could move on the 12th December. Johanna and her team made it work and we moved on the 12th of December 2024.

Couldn’t have done it without them. I’ve said we are never moving again but I would say : don’t go online for an important thing like buying a house; choose real people that you can go and see, you can’t do much better than Rothera Bray ( ask if you can have Johanna handle your sale )

I have used Rotheras for various purposes over the years, from notary to litigation. On this occasion I was buying a flat and required their services for conveyancing. I worked with Sara Odedra from the Leicester office and couldn’t be more pleased. Sara was professional and knowledgeable. The vendors side was challenging, but Sara kept on top of the case and we completed just in time. I was very happy with the service provided and will be coming back to Sara when I remortgage.
I will continue to use Rothera Bray when I require legal services and assistance.

Excellent communications: clear information and swift responses

I do not recommend selling your house to another party if they are using Rothera Bray Leicester solicitors for house conveyancing. Their service has been very slow and inefficient.
The delays may have been acceptable to their own client however they cost my husband a considerable sum as the other party, and for this reason I do not recommend dealing with them.
The conveyance was a very simple transaction of an empty house without any chain involved.
Rothera Bray Leicester had the TA6 and TA10 in January 2025 but sat on them for may weeks before raising 30 enquiries at the last minute. These were answered within 12 hours but Rothera Bray took another 4 weeks to complete and made further demands that even our own solicitors said were unnecessary before completion.
The firm did not draw up a timely contract or transfer for signature despite constant requests from clients, estate agents and our solicitors.
The person we were buying from complained to us that his Rothera Bray contact was twice on holiday and nobody dealt with paperwork, calls or emails in their absence. This was immensely frustrating for us having carried out our side well in advance and the conveyance being very simple.

Perhaps the most staggering hubris was when Rothera Bray Leicester requested a substantial extra fee to carry out the conveyance faster!
Unsurprisingly both parties declined.

We later discovered that our conveyance, started in January, had been put to one side as the purchasers wouldn't have to pay SDLT so Rothera Bray decided there was no urgency.

As a final insult Rothera Bray would not proceed with the conveyance unless the 1 star Trustpilot Review was removed. This blackmail was very effective and I removed the original review although raising the matter with the Trustpilot Integrity team.

Please don't be tempted to enter a sale or purchase with a party using Rothera Bray Leicester as conveyancers unless you are prepared for weeks of stress.

Our family have used Antony Fyson to buy and sell several properties now. We have always found both himself and his assistant Vicki both friendly and professional. This would have been five stars but it took over six weeks to pay us the balance owed following our last sale.

Dumped straight into DocuSign with zero explanation. Major problems with ThirdFort. Expectation to do everything on line. Brusque communication. Sluggish reactions to a problem, minimal feedback as to progress. Trainee solicitor was more professional. 3 months later they demanded £3.53 (their mistake). Again no explanation or apology. We were long standing clients before merger. We will never use them again. Avoid.

I appointed Rothera Bray to represent me for my case. After reading and obtaining a few quotes from other firms, Rothera Bray was not the cheapest or dearest, but I found they were best suited for my case and the cost were reasonable.
Lindsey who I dealt with mostly over the phone/email was the most lovely, friendly and informative lady, and I know this is her job but she didn't make me feel like just another client for how big their firm is. Then I spoke and met with Olivia who was my legal representation for the hearing. Olivia was very professional, friendly, straight talking and obviously good at what she does. An update…
Rotheras have succeeded yet again, after months of me constantly reposting my review, to have google delete it!
After having botched up a probate application, leaving it incomplete, and handing it to me to finish off all the complicated issues relating to it, they charged me in the five figures! Three partners stepped in to pressure me and insist on the five figure payment! Yet, none of them were present to work on the mistakes made on the application!
Rotheras have yet shown their true colours by lying to the Ombudsman. My Google review about Rotheras was reported by them relentlessly for months on end, to prevent it from being posted. Rotheras want to present a false image of being professional when their work ethic and quality of legal probate knowledge can only be described as dismal! I am sure my review will be followed up with a slew of high rated reviews as part of damage control!
Engaged Rothera in April 2022 to probate an estate.The probate only came through in August 2023.
Provided them all the information they had requested promptly.. Months later, after a lack of communication or progress on the application, made international call after call and emailed them to be constantly told that the lawyer would be in the office after four weeks, he was on vacation, he had a funeral to attend. When I insisted on knowing the cause for the delay, Rotheras showed no inclination to resolve the issue that was holding up the probate. Hence, I decided to work with the bank, spending hours of my time to resolve the issue and essentially take care of what Rothera were being paid for.
Months later, after further delays, Rotheras sent me the application to sign, which to my dismay had been created incorrectly. On the application, Rothera had shown us as being domiciled in the UK. The very purpose of going through a lawyer was to prove that we were not domiciled in the UK and therefore IHT did not apply to our application.What was Rothera’s reaction to this huge error? Indifference.
I was also asked by Rothera to prove from a local lawyer that we were domiciled outside the UK and that I had the right locally to inherit the estate. I had to spend hours researching on my own what documents would be suitable. No help from Rotheras, yet, as soon as I provided the documents they came back to me saying they would engage an expert for a fee and see what documents were needed. They had not been bothered to check this crucial information before asking me to pay the local lawyer and obtain the documents. Needless to say I had to pay the local lawyer again for another set of documents.

The pension company informed me that they did not hear from Rotheras for months, hence the funds have been converted into a Bear account and I will now have to spend endless hours trying to resolve this issue on my own. Rotheras found selling certain stocks to be complicated, so that too was handed over to me to take care of. Rothera also asked me to take care of transferring the property titles to my name as they said they were too busy.
Rotheras have charged unjustified fees in the five figures for doing the clerical task of writing to banks to obtain date of death values, of submitting the application (major error spotted by me thankfully) and writing to the companies asking them to deposit funds into the Rothera account.
When I expressed my dissatisfaction at the fees they were charging for an error-ridden, incompetent and incomplete process, three of the partners aggressively got involved, trying to justify the high fees they were charging me. Yet, none of the partners had been available to look at the delays, the error on the application or the fact that I was being pressured to handle and resolve the work that they did not want to do because it involved an extra step from the basic clerical tasks they preferred to do for a fee that was in the thousands!
Why go with them when you can have any other competent lawyer to assist you? Save yourself the stress, extra work, and expense and go with a more capable and professional firm of lawyers.

Do not use the 08456 465 465 on their website. It is a premium number at £1 per minute. There is no indication of this on their website or when using the number. Such practice is absolutely appalling from a business that needs to be based on trust and customer service.

I would like to thank Rothera Bray Solicitors, in particular Grant Benskin. I found myself in a difficult position with a business tenant and had to resort to litigation. Never in 45 years of business needing to do so before and found myself needing much guidance. Grant was able to take control and negotiated a settlement and exit contract.
It was a complex case from the start and took several months. I can honestly say without Grant it would have been extremely difficult. I thoroughly recommend Rothera Bray and Grant.

We asked for a quote for some work to be done and when we received this it was very expensive so decided not to proceed.

We were then presented with a bill for £420 for providing the quote and when we challenged this, we were threatened with court action.

Avoid.Joke of solicitor. Don’t know what they are doing. Took my case to them, charged me money I’m advance, and a month later tell me that they can’t brake my case because the other part has relatives working there. Waste of time and delay my case.
